One again I'll remind everyone that when Firefox was at its peak, most people hadn't installed it because they wanted, it was power users who installed Firefox on their dad's computer or told their friends to use it because it was "better."
Firefox didn't die because Google magically convinced everyone to install Chrome, it died because those recommendations stopped, and they stopped because at some point Firefox wasn't "better" anymore.
Asinine decisions like abandoning XUL and adopting crippled webextensions instead, or like making extension signing obligatory, absolutely killed any love anyone could have for Firefox. It wasn't a browser you could use for anything anymore, you could only use it as Mozilla wanted. Recommending Firefox when it meant freedom was one thing, but who would want to tell his auntie to use Firefox when you don't like it anymore?

Chrome didn't win, there was never a competition to begin with because Firefox killed itself. Everyone, every single soul at Mozilla knows it, because when they announced the deprecation of add-ons that actually worked Bugzilla was full to the brim with posts saying that exactly, literally this would happen. So, yeah, fuck off with your prediction, Mozilla could have prevented this. They are the ones who didn't listen.

My memory is that Firefox was better than IE and early Chrome, but around 2009/2010 Chrome was much faster and more stable. I forget the other reasons that made me switch but Firefox didn't become usable to me again until a few years ago and it's still quirky/broken in some ways beyond the obvious "websites only built/tested for Chrome"
