>another brother is falling for the Ubuntu scam
NOOO ANON!! *grabs your hand and stares deeply into your eyes* Ubuntu's reputation as the beginner linux distro has been outdated for almost a decade! In truth, Ubuntu is a broken mess that doesn't care about user freedom, and canonical is an evil advertising company. Get Linux Mint instead Hope this helps

Literally does not matter whether you get *Ubuntu or Mint. The average user does not care about snaps and even if you do some derivatives like Lubuntu and Kubuntu have minimal install available that come without them
>>
>snaps
>need ubuntu pro for updates
>terminal adverts for ubuntu pro

Install Debian 13.
>>
>>107858916
The average user will care about the fact that they're running a garbage system when they run sudo apt update and their audio stops working
Or more likely they will blame linux and go back to windows.

LMDE is the white man's Debian 13 thoughbeit
Or better yet MX

b--b-but gnome?! it's so beautiful

Why would you use a touchscreen interface with a mouse and keyboard? That's incredibly dumb.

Ubuntu LTS sits in a solid middle ground between Windows/Mac and Linux autisim. It is a fantastic place to start a linux journey. It has a very large userbase and robust documentation/fourms. Yes, there are reasons to use other distros, but new people wont necessarily understand the reasons at first.

Based mature person who has outgrown distrohopping and pointless tinkering

the difference is literally one including snap and the other not.
I personally went with mint to avoid snap but it doesn't really matter for a new user. anything is better than windows.
>>
>>107858930
you still get updates without it, just that you get 10 years on LTS releases rather than 5 if you use Pro.
who hasn't reinstalled by the time 5 years has elapsed?

>Ubuntu is a solid-
Incorrect

Different defaults, different tooling out of the box
Mint doesn't even have the same repo as ubuntu
>>

If you look at the GUI updater, every time an update pops out, it'll show you several packages held hostage from updating behind the pro loicense.
How do I know? My stupid jobs forces us to use either win 11 or Ubuntu, since I ain't using wangblows I'm forced to put up with that massive turd.

I figured ubuntu was for normies because everyone always talks about it so i went with fedora kde and it is excellent

I went with Cachy as my first distro. Was gonna go with mint but apparently X11 doesn't work well with a dual monitor setup if each monitor has a different refresh rate. Wayland handles this without issue.
I don't see myself distrohopping anytime soon. But when I upgrade my PC in around a year or two (total new build, my current PC has has zero upgrades in almost 10 years) I'll probably try a new distro.

What's the most popular distro to start your distro-hopping and also the most popular distro when you end your distro-hopping?

Ubuntu.

Good job. Ubuntu has a 2 year release cycle. 24.04 is almost 2 years old and 26.04 will release soon:tm:. If you don't like the Desktop, you can try Mint or Kubuntu, especially, if you are coming from Windows.
