How does /g/ store their files?
>>
On 5.25" floppy disks rolled around a dildo in my ass.
>>
Four 1TB SMASNUG microSD cards from Aliexpress in RAID 0
>>
i don't store files, i like to live ephemerally
>>

I put everyone on iCloud including medical records and tax shit. Why? Be sure it's Apple and it's secure and I don't have to have some stupid ass filing cabinet in my house. Btw I actually used that soace my Nintendo Switch collection..
So yeah, super secure, sure fast, easy to access from any phone or computer or tablet I am on, 24/hour access... And besides all my friends on Facebook use it and swear by it too.
>>
>>107859580
For hot storage I have homemade NAS
Raid 10, 20TB
For cold storage I have Automated DIY blueray autoloader machine
50x 50GB discs, 100 years cold storage, as cheap as to tape would be

Files go from hot to cold automatically after not being used a long time

i want to make a server like this for my home.. I might even document it in a blog post and post it on linkedin

Holy NPC, did you get lost on your way to reddit and end up here?
>>
>>107859818
Do you mean you keep nsws in icloud or gamecards in a filing cabinet? Seems a little wasteful either way
>>
router has a 1tb usb stick everyone can drop their shit there and it just works over wifi.

Engrave them on stone tablets
In 2000 years when modern civilization is but a distant memory, archaeologists will be reconstructing history based on my data. If you have any special requests for how you want this era to be remembered lmk

Just stop being poor
>>
>>107859878
I've wanted to do this for ages, but all stock router firmware is slow as fuck
>>
>>107859853
What are you saving that worth the cost? I cannot think of anything this valuable to me that doesn't fit on a single hard drive?
>>
>>107860003
Just get a rack..there is no excuse for being poor in 2026
>>
>>107859580
I don't think anyone is retarded enough to do this, but for the record Discord will delete your old files completely at random. Not even if you abuse it with hundreds of huge files or anything, at some point they simply start purging old files even if your server barely has a handful of attachments, and they won't ever warn you before.

You are black.

NAS holds movies, shows, books and scientific papers of interest that I use. There's also an automated storing on NAS and deleting on all my devices of pictures and videos (think phones and laptops). On top of it I do selective backups of my projects folders on the personal gitlab and few computers.
Other "servers" use this media accessible through NFS. I also have a web based transmission torrrent client if anyone wants to auto download media accessible directly to Jellyfin.

It's just a redundancy tho, about 10TB is unused but about 15TB was used at peak at one point so that is why I put in a bit of leeway

It was more of a tech project to see if I could rather than a necessity of mine. Everything could have been swapped out by cheap SaaS but I wanted to do the networking the automatization and have control over everything.

How do you handle security?
>>
>>107860321
VLANs, DMZ, SSH keys, firewall with blocked countries, dockerization and no default passwords ought to do 80% of the job
>>
>>107860389
>>107860321
although I am thinking of adding an elastic stack for monitoring, not just security monitoring but performance and notifications

oh, also they CAN see context, ie.

Discord: "We're implementing a new policy where uploaded files are deleted after 30 days. This policy is retroactive and everything older than 30 days has now been deleted. Buy nitro, cuck."
>>

Good question Hans,
I will check up on that and circle back to you in few weeks.
>>
>>107860596
Yep. I have. I have a ton of movie and shows I got from sailing the high seas. Always wanted to set up a private "streaming service" that I could access while out and about. Also to host my obsidian vaults to be accessable from outside my home network. Hell even setting up my own VPN too.
>>
>>107861143
This thread doesn't have a few weeks. Can you make it a few hours at most?
>>
>>107859580
Sometimes I'll use Whatsapp Web to store some loose images and links and it's worked fine for me. Otherwise I keep backups and such on my Drive, with decent organization and compression I've never needed anything other than the free storage tier.
