Induced demand is such a fucking retarded term. It's literally just met demand. The only way a society could come up with this idea is if they've been neglecting their population's needs for so long they don't even know what the baseline should be anymore.
>>
>>107863468
The term has been co-opted by anti-construction activists but it did originally refer to legitimate marginal effects. Of course, those don't exist for goods and services for which demand is inelastic. So when new housing or hospital capacity is instantly filled it does prove a deficit like you're saying.
>>
>>107862305
>dude people just like buy cars to have them stand around at home since they're so cheap and nice to look at
Is this what these retards actually believe? Or is this just the best """argument""" they could come up with post-hoc?
>>
mass adoption of motorcycles and legalization of lane splitting and filtering is the only way to solve traffic congestion while maintaining personal liberty.
>>
>>107863584
>mass adoption of motorcycles

It seems that these two things are at odds with each other, as most people do not want to ride motorcycles.

put all the money into researching teleportation instead

public transit is great actually. you just need to actually police anti-social activity (read: niggers, spics, jeets, and druggies) and have reliable service.

>>
>>107863637

See, you said the naughty word, so the brainwashed will dismiss it out of hand as communism. Never mind that the infrastructure for *mass* transit can and has been effectively privatized while roads cannot. Ancapistan will have no roads.
>>
>>107863756
Well yeah, suicide teleportation would be about as close to actual teleportation as LLMs are to actual sci-fi AI.
It was always replacement cloning with basic long distance data transfer passed as teleportation to manufacture a "dilemma". But if we learn to warp space it won't matter. Will never happen, but it's not like cloning will.
>>
>>107863794
The countries with the most motorcycles are tropical climates where an entire season is dedicated to monsoons/heavy rains.

There is one excuse to not ride a motorcycle, and that is when it is extremely cold and there snow is on the ground. This is not the case for most of Europe or America even 15% of the time. Most of the US population lives in coastal or warm climates, and most of Europe is relatively quite warm with little snowfall thanks to the gulf stream.

Sounds like you want to keep making excuses.

The fact that you need a mechanized horse to achieve liberty is the problem to begin with

Not really.

Nah not quite. If some particular resource is somewhat scarce or difficult to acquire then people will use it with that in mind and solve their applicable problems in other ways as well. If a resource is entirely abundant then it will be used liberally for all kinds of purposes.
>>
>>107864031
I'm sorry, but this is the future you (we) chose. So you might as well get a motorcycle and get ready. The age of cars is over. In the future, most will have been melted down. This was revealed to me in a dream.

I love optimizing code, it makes me feel prouder of my code. Doesnt mean just making leet code but it definitely makes you learn more and impresses employers anyway

I enjoy platforms like pico8 where you are limited in all aspects of the "hardware"
>>
Why do trannies and leftists hate cars so much?
>>
>>107863468
Exactly. Soon computer engineers are going to build chips that can fulfill everyone's unmet needs, and we'll never need to build faster/more efficient computer chips again. Who needs more than 640 kb anyways

why do rightoids and the mentally retarded hate public transit?

>>
>>107862305
nice bait thread OP. You are completely right but people love being slaves to automaker jews, oil jews, insurance jews, and hospital jews.

If (((city zoning boards))) didn't mandate minimum parking lot sizes, you could walk everywhere. If these same boards allowed a hotel to have a floor of commercial space, you don't need to drive to a store. A floor with a food court, bodega, and mini general goods store.
>>
>>107863468
Induced demand is completely true. If your city's train system is extremely cheap, fast, and convenient, then everyone will use the train instead. Then you get too much demand and Japanese crowded trains.

In America there is almost zero metropolitan area trams that have priority. Busses have to be faster than cars for people to use them.

>inb4 police not enforcing the law is my problem so I need a car
no
>>
>>107865787
You just demonstrated induced demand. Since GPUs have so much vram shitty coders can make shitty code which requires high specs to run. Windows XP isn't fundamentally different from Windows 11.
>>
>>107865966
You will have at least 40 parking spaces with no nearby residential buildings, and you will like it
>>
>>107865979
police are simply less able to enforce the law in a space like that. it's why it's a common setting for tense movie scenes.

when systems are run imperfectly i want to be in control of where i'm going and who i am around as much as possible. you're thinking autism-first and it's clouding your judgment
>>
>>107865997
>police are simply less able to enforce the law in a space like that.
Most crime is committed by a minority of people. They are already repeat offenders who are let out time after time by liberal judges. Try again.
>>
>>107866004
the part that "most" leaves out still concern me. minimize all you want, the rational impulse will always be there. your utopia isn't real. hedge.
>>
>>107866011
>utopia is when judges keep violent criminals locked up
You have low standards for law enforcement.
>>
>>107865997
>i want to be in control of where i'm going and who i am around as much as possible
Then use public transport, you have a much lower likelihood of getting pancaked by a drunk/boomer/druggie whose driving on the wrong side of the road
>>
>>107866041
other than pulling that out of your ass, there are other risks people would consider. safe driving can go a long way, blue states won't even let you carry for self defense

you're selling it too hard, even you don't believe what you're saying. you're not taking the bus everywhere. bezos isnt going to take the bus everywhere.
>>
>>107866041
True. Weird how he's afraid of a crazy person on the bus but not other crazy drivers. Other anon has a very selective analysis.
>>107866068
public transport is only intended for urban commutes. You can still own a car and drive across the country. You will probably not be able to drive right up to town hall. You will either take public transport or walk.
>>
>>107866073
you forgot to preface your larping with:
>in my autism fantasy world:
>>
>>107866080
>we can't have mixed use zoning and denser urban areas because... it's a fantasy!
>>
>>107866068
>blue states won't even let you carry for self defense
you can carry but that's beside the point. public transit is safer than driving.
https://injuryfacts.nsc.org/home-and-community/safety-topics/deaths-by-transportation-mode/
>you're not taking the bus everywhere
i do it 95% of the time. it beats driving for most use cases. driving demands constant attention, plus you have to park and get blinded by headlights at night. on the bus you can just chill
>>
>>107866095
it's a fantasy that it'll become anything other than a homeless people porta potty

go for it, maybe it can be cool, but you try to nerf cars artificially to promote your public transit propaganda. it's transparent and stupid and invasive. fuck off.
>>
>>107866130
If your only complaint against proper urban development is being a shitty politician's bitch then maybe you should stop thinking about urban development or politics.
>>
>>107865979
>If your city's train system is extremely cheap, fast, and convenient, then everyone will use the train instead.
Not if there are nice open roads to drive on.
Which means the only way to make public transportation work is to neglect the road network until driving is too much of a pain in the ass.
>Then you get too much demand and Japanese crowded trains.
Exactly, try driving in Tokyo.
Then make sure to claim that any road expansion would be "induced demand" and pretend you're not just brainwashed into parroting talking points.
>>
>>107866155
Driving isn't feasable in dense urban environments because it's an inefficient use of space. There is no spending your way into making roads and parking lots efficient. You are not making 10,000x5000lb vehicles each moving 2 people efficient for dense urban areas.

Cars are great. They are only the primary mode of transport because (((automakers))) and (((oil companies))) want to milk people for money. They are an inefficient waste of resources. Electric vehicles don't solve the problem of CARS.
>>
>>107866164
>inefficient use of space
i can't wait to see where this thinking goes
>>
>>107866172
> insufficient use of space
It already went.
“An unused weapon is a useless weapon”
>>
>>107866172
A 10,000lb bus, train, or tram can move more people faster in less space using less fuel with safer and more reliable service compared to 10 people each driving a 2,000+lb vehicle.
>>
>>107866164
>Driving isn't feasable in dense urban environments because it's an inefficient use of space.
Making transportation seamless is the opposite of inefficient.
>There is no spending your way into making roads and parking lots efficient.
This sounds like a mantra you tell yourself or something kek
>>107866196
Yeah if everyone is going to the same place at the same time. This is not a net gain in efficiency, it's the state gaining efficiency (cost savings) at the expense of yours (you only get to go where they let you). You got the mind of a 12 year old

I recently found an old Office 97 disc and installed it on a Pentium 2 with Windows 98 to see just how crappy and slow almost 30 year old Office was on computers back then.
Instead, it puts the latest Office on modern hardware to shame. No splash screen, it doesn't need one, it opens and is ready to use in about a second. And it does most of what modern Office does as far as I can see.
