I wanna get some new switches, what do you guys recommend if I like clacky or marble sounds and not super heavy springs
>>107863734Anything from HMX that's got PA12 housing, long poles and T-stems (like Hades V2 or Bad Sweetheart). I'm not even kidding, try these out.
>longpole
i just bought my first mechanical keyboard. chose red switches because i heard they're quiet but i wasn't expecting the keys to feel so light.
anyone else regret going 75% instead of getting TKL?The delete button is in a weird positionctrl isnt where it should be
is this my best option for tkl under $150ish? i prefer the colors on the other keychrons (black and blue) though...
>>107863734This is going to sound like a fucked up thing to recommend but if you haven't tried it yet I recommend trying the Lichicx raw silents. Linear, tactile, whatever your preference is.https://divinikey.com/products/lichicx-raw-switchesOf course it's not clacky or marbly, but I was big into clacky switches and I love these. So if you like clacky, well it's not that, but you might like it anyway. It's as "clacky" as a silent switch gets.I must admit though I was never a fan of marbly.
>>107864654you haven't checked the totally-not-the-same-company Epomaker, Skyloong, Royal Kludge offerings?
For me, it's Aula with the voice actor pads. Mine sounds like Arnie
>>107864168Reds are too light for me, blacks are the way to go
>>107865152Fuck. Yeah.MX Blaecks
Tight, brand new hot-swap PCB isn't so difference from solderable PCB, at least for me I can't hear the difference at all
share some of your mappingstoday I came up with thisLctrl > FN2Lwin > Right ClickLalt > Left ClickFN2+Lwin > ctrl+cFN2+Lalt > ctrl+vUsually I use a trackball or dedicated trackpad on the right hand and a second mouse on the left with tape on the sensor that I use only for clicking but this mapping feels faster and more comfortable overall
>>107865192Tight is the important bit. Tight pcb and tight plate means good sound. But I've had plenty of less-than-tight plates from expensive keyboards before. For that reason I always prefer solder. Once you have a good desolder gun it becomes not a big deal
>>107865201My mappings are from my 10 years of gayming keyboardLwk > FNFN+Insert > PlayFN+Delete > PauseFN+Home > NextFN+End > PrvsFN+PgUp > Vol upFN+PgDn > Vol down
>>107865152is it expensive to swap switches?
>>107865393No, since switches are cheap, the real question is that, Is your pcb hot-swap or soldered? If it's hot-swap it will be extremely easy but if not, are you willing to do some soldering works?
>>107865416Will I hate myself if I have no soldering experience and decide to start on keyboards?
>>107865657you will hate yourself if you don't get a hot swappable keyboard
>>107864489Im regretting 60%.Its great for gaming as it takes way less room, but whenever Im doing something else and need arrow keys and F-keys Im always pissed off
>>107865657No? at worst you learned how to solder and it's very good skill to have
>>107865657If you're dead-set on soldering and you don't already have any equipment you should get the following>Mill-max hotswap sockets, so you never have to do any soldering again>Pinecil soldering iron + portable mini stand from the same website>Kester solder>Solder sucker ("desoldering pump")>Desoldering wick>FluxThe difficulty of soldering mill-max sockets is overstated and is a very good way to upgrade or salvage an older PCB or one that only comes with soldered switches. Most of the above materials can be had in one of those Amazon soldering kits and would be a better buy for a first-timer, or if you're not going to be doing much soldering outside of a keyboard.
>>107865657Soldering is easy. Desoldering can be a little bit tricky. Desolder guns are expensive, but they make an arduous task into a comfortable one.
>>107864489you can just remap the keys
>>107865708>Im regretting 60%.im glad i wasnt dumb enough to fall for that meme at least75% keyboard only gains me 2cm or so in terms of width compared to a tkl. the loss of a few keys isnt too bad but the repositioning of some really fucks me uphow many weeks will it take for me to get used to iti already remapped some keys so that at least Del and INS are roughly in the same position relative to backspace
>>107866327It'll take like one week tops. Though I will say exploded 75% with a skosh of space off to the sides for arrows, F-row and shortcut keys is the way to go.
>>107865192Solder is life. Half alu and solder geON onLY
Troons be like LESS KEYS UNMAN ME
im modifying a 1994 BigKeys keyboard to use usb instead of ps/2 and realized i had enough room to add in some status leds. i mocked up a little daughter board and it fits fucking perfectly right over the function keys. the tolerances are literally perfect and i didnt measure a god damn thing. i think this was just meant to happen.
>>107865657if your first experience with soldering is first desoldering a board you will be miserable. if you’re just buying a solder pcb it will be fun
Beige is beautiful.
just bought a GT80 + gateron type R switcheshow did i do? switching from bface x2 + zilent v2's
>>107867214You bought a case for a Wooting Hall Effect board, and you bought MX switches? Am I reading this right?I'd say you did very very badly...
>>107867214Yeah but which PCB?
>>107867266>>107867224he might have bought https://kbdfans.com/collections/pcb/products/kbdfans-holy80-8k-mx-hotswap-pcb
MX Browns
Just did a Monkeytype that started "white power sun body" and didn't get a screenshot before hitting tab at the first mistake. Bollocks.
Actuated an MX Black 5000 times by handSmooth POM on scratchy nylonI love it
>>107867224>>107867266yeah this >>107867320the gt-80 kit on kbd comes with the holy80 pcb
>+84 needs force break pads to not be a pingy piece of shitGlarebros we can't stop winningenjoy your shitty TKL paypiggies
>>107867753>>>>>>>>>2026>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>F1 exists for 5 years now>newer kits still need force breakWhat the fuck is wrong with people? Why can’t they just make a good keyboard like the F1 when all they really need to do is learn from the F1 lineup
>>107867780F1 has loads of Viton on the top and bottom + Geon has leaf spring plates.Get your G on bitch
>get baited by fake renders with hidden screws and no force break pads>designer sends final prototype 1 week before the GB endsHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHALET THIS BE A LESSONGEON ONLY
>>107867933tbf Glare r1 needs force break pads toohttps://geon.works/products/force-brake-padYou can clearly see them on the mounting poles

>>107867963>>107867947Mission failed, you can't bait in the know people
What's the meta for breaking in MX Blacks? Thermingoat says it's pointless after 120k while others shill 1.2M.I gotta get my G on
>minor factory lube application to spring
>>107868193mx2a need no break-in
>>107868205That's fine, some lazy niggers donut dip their springs with more lube on them, one bad thing about that is it wasteful as hell
>>107868206>While I’ve never generally been much of an advocate for an arduous break in period for switches going into a daily driver keyboard, this is the shining example of a switch that I will point back to that genuinely wholly benefits from a break in period.

>>107863588How easy / hard would it be to DIY a pcb with TMR sensors?
>>107868931Skill issue

Cherry is for chuds
>love MMD Princesses>turns out they're v1>try v4>they're factory lubed and feel worse as a result>open switches and wipe all the lube off>feels and sounds about the same as v1Not sure what the iterative improvement was supposed to be.
>>107869957V2s are the best. It's like Keygeek's Y-series linears. Everyone loves the Y2 but the Y3, not so much.
>>107868248It's not like MX2As stopped being made of nylon/POM or stopped being scratch cannons. Breaking them in makes just as much sense as it does with the older hyperglides.
Love me some Cherry Blaeckslubed plus filmed plus spring-swappedI keep saying that inside my head, over and over againlubed plus filmed plus spring-swappedI like to sluzz the 'plus' and pop my lips like a whore applying lipstick at 'swapped'muah muah Cherry
