Does something like this even exist? I want one of those cute colored lamps they have on Amazon on the cheap for $30, but I'm afraid I'll be giving my wifi password to become part of a Chinese botnet. Do any wifi bulbs like this exist that are open source?
>when you are a consoomer but are also schizophrenicdo not connect your light bulb to the internet
Posted from my light bulb.
tuya bulbs can be flashed wirelessly with open firmwarehttps://github.com/ct-Open-Source/tuya-convert
>>107864097just get a zigbee gate and none of the zigbee bulbs will be able to connect to the internet
>>107864214I want to be able to control it from my phone though so I don't have to get up and I don't want to be fumbling around looking for one of those mini rf remotes.
>>107864097>Chinese botneti'd be much more concerned with becoming a part of the mossad/NSA botnet.
>>107864097no but can't you just make one with a raspberry pi or whatever it is called, and some rgb leds? if you are a firstie you can afford a 3d printer and make your own I guess
>>107864097>Open Source Smart Wifi Light Bulbs? For years I prayed to God I'd never heard those words stringed together like that, but here we are.Zoomerbrainrotmaxx, accelerate.
>>107864097Just buy Philips Hue.Maybe the new IKEA line is good too idk haven't looked them up. At least they're European.
>>107864246>Unfortunately many devices have already been shipping with the new patched firmware, evident by a PSK ID beginning with 02 in smarthack-psk.log. There is no workaround at this time. Additionally, manufacturers have been silently switching from the ESP82xx based modules to other chipsets, making it impossible to install alternative ESP firmware on these devices.yeah I remember reading this beforeon the other hand, there's esphome where some devices with ESP chips can be flashedhttps://devices.esphome.io/devices/wipro-20w-led-rgb-batten-light-ds22000/
>>107864097you have like four protocols to choose from that aren't wifi, just go with some of thoseeverything in my house is either zigbee or Bluetooth LE (passive sensors)
>>107864097Open source led strip controllers will give you the least locked in system, you'll be able to buy new led strips for decades.
>>107866644The Hue app has an absolutely insane amount of tracker traffic. It's the top talker on my phone. IKEA's is basically mute. IKEA really seems to give a shit about offline-first, as well. The Hue app is mandating accounts now.
>>107867022>The Hue app has an absolutely insane amount of tracker trafficInteresting, maybe because I'm in the EU but there's hardly any traffic on my device, about 3 megabites in the last month of which background traffic is some kilobytes.
>>107864449>I want to be able to control it from my phone though so I don't have to get up and I don't want to be fumbling around looking for one of those mini rf remoteMy Amazon lights (both bulbs and strips) are bluetooth controlled. I don't even have wifi at home.
>>107867022>The Hue app is mandating accounts now.Pfft
>>107864271I find ZigBee pretty scratchy. Hue get it working fine, but having multiple bulbs turn on at the same time, and one didn't get the message is annoying. Modern tuya ones can't be wirelessly jailbroken, unless something changed recently. You can get some wifi ones with esphome on them already, just reflash with your own config and you should be fine.
>>107867390I never got a problem with bulbs not turning on. They sometimes don't turn on at the same time and it looks kinda weird, but that's it.
