>The reboot of the early internet online community Digg, a one-time rival to Reddit, is moving forward. The company, which is today back under the ownership of its original founder, Kevin Rose, along with Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, is launching its open beta to the public on Wednesday.https://techcrunch.com/2026/01/14/digg-launches-its-new-reddit-rival-to-the-public/Oh no! Free speech! How dare they!
wow, I'm diggin' dat, digga!
It doesn't resembled the old Digg at all, they probably just use a modified Lemmy instance on the old domain name."Digg inc" is registered to a postbox in San Francisco so is a fly by night company that probably is funded by funds stolen from crypto scams like most techbro companies these days.
>>107867651I'm a digger, you're a digger.
What does Digg do that the 100 other social media websites dont?
>>107867673i can call you a no good fucking digger
>>107867673when you see a post you can either updigg or downdigg. ya diggin' dat, digga?
So many sites come and go. Voat, Ruqqus, Poal, communities-win, Lemmy, Saidit and probably hundreds more, but network effects and centralization via Google keeps people on Reddit and forced to be left-wing because of the jannies.
I am perfectly ready to shill for Digg if it successfully avoids the bot problem that is currently ruining xitter
>>107867651>Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanianthat guy is a real cunt
>>107867651why did they relaunch it with a cucked design?i used to be on digg before the v2 redesign when everyone migrated to reddit, but imho they should've relaunched with something closer to old.reddit.com and started by catering to the tech enthusiast crowd instead of going straight for normies
>>107867651>Redditors worried it could become a free-speech zone>no source providedSo this is the new marketing tactic? Digg is trying to be the Rumble/Kick/Truth Social/Gab of forums?
I've been following this for well over a year and have some special status for being in the first sign-up group. After this grand opening, I'm pretty sure it's gonna fail unfortunately. There was very little warning of this taking place. I feel like they are running out of money or something and decided to open the floodgates in desperation. We don't even have the ability to edit posts there yet and the site is teeming with bugs. There's no ability to assign moderators or anything in the communities I created and I can't even update the "about" section on one of them. I get is supposed to be beta, but it's way more in the alpha stage.
>>107867651Kek total Reddit meltdown.
>>107867651NIGG
>>107867651Who's worried? I use reddit every day and have never seen a single post about it until this thread here on /g/. Sounds like made up bullshit.
>>107867758I also don't like this app look. I'm a PC user, i don't use a mobile phone to use the internet.
>>107867896https://beta.digg.comI don't know why they don't advertise this more. Yet another reason I think it's going to fail.
>>107867910>https://beta.digg.comI clicked on it hoping the layout was different. :(kek
>>107867651>reddit co-founder relaunching diggcan't wait for more for the same>millions of mentally retarded indians>millions of retarded teenagers>troony toon groomer supermods>deep state operatives manufacturing consent in politics subs>pornographer whores advertising subscriptions to their diseased hole pics>companies using shill accounts to advertise their scam products>instant ban for niggerposting etc.
>>107867896I never used it then, but I certainly wouldn't use a site that looks like that now. I checked it and a single thing item shows up in the middle, with an image of a 2007 version showing when they fit 8 in that place.
>>107867651>OhanianGonna be shit then.
>>107867758lookin good
>>107867651>However, the rise of AI has presented an opportunity to rebuild Digg, Rose and Ohanian believe, leading them to acquire Digg last March through a leveraged buyout by True Ventures, Ohanian’s firm Seven Seven Six, Rose and Ohanian themselves, and the venture firm S32. The company has not disclosed its funding.>They’re betting that AI can help to address some of the messiness and toxicity of today’s social media landscape. At the same time, social platforms will need a new set of tools to ensure they’re not taken over by AI bots posing as people.Topi Kekkonen
>>107867651Somehow I just knew this is yet another AI grift.
>>107867651It’s still trash
>>107867673Not be a Nigg
/g/ hates the grift cause they're not smart enough to grift themselvesi say more power to this lil nigga
>>107867786>over a year>non functional websiteShouldn't have used AI as coders.
>>107867651>Oh no! Free speech! How dare they! You really think "free speech" can exist on a for-profit website?
>>107867673there are a lot of diggers there
Does it pass the nigger test?
>>107867664>It doesn't resemble the old Digg at allthis is the highest praise anyone could give to new digg
sup digga
>>107867651Site will be dead in a month. Kevin rose clearly learnt nothing from digg v3 because the design sucks ass.
Digg was never good.
reddit stock is so high right now for something that is so dependent to announcers and could crumble in one day like it has happened to many other sites of the same kind (digg itself lmao).
>>107867651go back there
>>107867749(it won't)
Those "redditors" are they in the room with us?
>>107867910>it's already full of leftist reddit cucksAnd into the trash it goes.
>>107867749Considering the whole site is full of blatant (hopefully placeholder) AI "art", including OP's pic, I doubt it
>>107867673Literally nothing. Reddit only "won" because it was doing shit slightly better than Digg when Digg was first-striker.The only reason it's back is because Alexis Texas (married to Serena Williams in a Lesbian romance) wants to distance himself from Spez (who is a nazi, BTW) and the Leddit community. That's it.>>107867754At least he's better than "if Mad Max comes true, I'd own all the slaves with my private security [who totally wouldn't turn on me] :)" Spez.>>107867749It won't. Sign up is free/public.The only way to avoid "bots" is to make the site private and invite-only like a private tracker (and even then you'd have to watch the sign-ups like a hawk, IIRC NuTwitter [formerly: Blue Sky] had a means of seeing who used whose invite code during it's "beta" period in 2023-2024 to try to prevent this which they stopped when they opened public registers). But the bigger problem is: Who the fuck is going to use Digg over Reddit beyond disgruntled Redditers and Kevin Rose fans?Reddit is basically the defacto Google now (you can't find shit unless you add "reddit" to Google searches, that's how atrocious the internet has gotten and Google's indexer has gotten so shitty), what is Digg going to do to try to cajole that?
>>107867758It's for the "Responsive Web" design era (aka: one site for mobile/desktop without having to make seperate shit).Honestly, I'm more miffed by the stupid "today on Digg" podcast bullshit at the top right, who the fuck wants that?
>>107867786It's basically like NuTwitter. Opened before any features were mature/complete. Tale of "Start-ups" as old as time.
>>107871155>The only reason it's back is because Alexis Texas (married to Serena Williams in a Lesbian romance) wants to distance himself from Spez
Do they just want to cash in on data harvesting deals?
The interface looks too much like new reddit.
What's the hackernews of video games?
>>107871626Despite everything, all market research suggests that this is the kind of UI the majority of users (where the money is) want.
>>107868128>replace tranny mods with AIWow, was that so fucking hard. Valve has been doing that for a decade now on their forums.
https://digg.com/4chan
>>107871689It should only be an option for the people who can't handle more than one or two things visible at a time. If it was up to them a screen the size of a wall would have nothing more on it.
