Is zorin os the new best linux?
>>
Not
The best distro will always be Debian
>>
it actually just werks and it looks good, unlike cinnamon
>>
>>107867746
They got baited by a windows-like look but the real test is going to be software support and ease of installation. Most people get discouraged when the built-in software store fails to install something because of "reasons". I think whoever shills linux as an alternative should go the extra mile and recommend fitting alternatives instead of letting new users go through the wine rabbit hole. They are in for the OOB experience, not the tech enthusiast tinkering experience
>>
>>107867746
No thanks, it has propietary software and you cant just get rid of it because you break the whole DE
>>
>>107867761
Zorin is based on ubuntu, which again is based on debian. So it's basically a double dumbed down version of debian.
Personal anecdote: literally dug up a 2012 Macbook Air (8GB memory) from the attic over Christmas, installed Zorin on it and handed it to my parents. They are over the moon with it. Have not had a call from them to fix anything yet. It just werks.
>>
>>107867746
Zorin is pretty good, and already has "windows compatibility" tools installed. Much easier to run a windows program fro normies than using other distros
>>
>>107867746
It made me switch to Linux without looking back.
finally a ready to use distro that doesn't look like shit
>>
>>107867746
never tried it but the website looks like cancer
>>
>>107868209
Exactly. I'm completely turned off immediately. Also really tired of the:
>it's hecking Debian, again!
>>
>>107868021
>Zorin is based on ubuntu, which again is based on debian.
La creatura.
>>
>>107867746
doesn't it have some chinese spyware DE?
>>
>>107868493
It uses gnome as DE and judging by the devs it would probably be russian spyware.
>>
>>107867746
Can you have a Zorin menu on more than 1 monitor yet?
>>
>>107867871
Funfact they have a software recommending fitting Linux alternatives when trying to execute .exes implemented.
Also installation is easier than any Wangblows.
>>
Linux will only explode when people do a store for Windows applications using the right Wine runtime for each.

It could be based on Flatpak or whatever, but people should just click and install games and programs like Photoshop, Affinity without hassle.
>>
A very lightly modified Debian/kde to have a few more things installed ootb and a newbie first run guide would be better than all these meme distros.
>>
>>107868432
Lmao
>>
>>107867746
And the proof is.... where?
>>
>>107868927
Anyday now, this time for real
>>
>>107868493
That's deepin
>>
>>107867746
>2 million people tried it for a month tops and then went back to Windows
>>
>>107867746
zoomie relative asked me to tell him about linux distros and how to choose the correct one
i lowkey tried to shill debian to him, showed him a few others, told him about desktop environments etc, and never even mentioned zorin

a few days later he tells me he installed zorin because it just looks the best
>>
>>107869044
The Steam gaming revolution in Linux is basically this, the store made easy to run.

If they do the same thing with the apps it is over. They could just make a clone of Flathub but instead would use Wine Runtimes.
>>
>>107868021
Very similar experience for me, I installed it for my mom, she never had a problem with it so far.
>>
>>107867746
it's really amazing how zorin can get all the tech writers to shit out an article over this bullshit.
>>
>>107869149
>recommending debian to a normie that doesn't know anything about computers
you guys are fucking stupid and the reason Linux doesn't grow
>>
>>107867746
real nice but suits my am5 rig more than my 16 year old laptop lol. was hoping i could get away with something this handsome on older hardware. back to xfce, i guess
>>
>>107869214
it isn't your average tinker distro, but a distro for your boomer parents who never used anything but windows. that and the fact it basically runs flawlessly ootb is worth writing about I guess
>>
>>107868021
I like these testimonies so much. great reassurances.
>>
>>107869290
>normie that doesn't know anything about computers
you're making shit up
>>
>>107867746
Zorin OS is genuinely good, used it for a long time but got bored
>>
>artyom zorin
saaaaaar
>>
>>107871390
>but got
that's good for everyone else besides autists

No its broken. If they fix all these issues maybe it would be decent, right now its trash though and the devs have a shady past.

Uses brave by default instead of firefox or librewolf or hell even chromium which is better than brave
People have been saying how shit brave is but they will not remove it. It's retarded how stupid the devs are.
Gnome software is shit and cant even load icons properly as pic related shows
Snaps are included by default which are garbage when flatpaks are the supreme standard
They wont use bazaar which is better with flatpaks
Gnome file manager still sucks and is much slower than KDE

KDE already won the windows 11 desktop competitor.

Theres just no good KDE distros that are clean and simple to use besides kubuntu and thats on old 6.4, won't be good until its on 6.5 on the next release.

The problem with linux is theres never polished distros. Zorin is so close but it's broken
>>
>>107871888
>Gnome software is shit and cant even load icons properly as pic related shows
that's just typical packagekit fuckery, it's worse on discover
I don't get why both gnome software and discover insist on supporting that shit instead of just flatpak
>>
>>107868358
This. Just use fucking Debian. It doesn't matter.
>>
>>107872015
Kubuntu discover loads stuff instantly though. Its a gnome software problem. Its just bad broken shit software.

Also the brave thing has literally been hated since fucking forever yet the devs refuse to remove it. They destroyed all their good will and are providing a shit OS for windows users who are going to have to use the terminal since gnome software sucks ass and to fully remove brave you need to use the terminal.

If they used bazaar it would just be a one click to uninstall. Also gnome software does NOT support exiting the page of the app you're installing/uninstalling, If you browse and search for another app it cancels the action. LOL

Even mint software store and discover has background installs and removal.
>>
>>107871888
I use gnome since I like the workflow, but fuck the devs. Computers are not tablets. Their contributors actively want to make it worse.

>Latest gnome update
>new video player
>cool
>HEY WE PUT PAUSE PLAY IN THE MIDDLE LIKE A SMARTPHONE LOL
>MAKE SURE YOU NEVER HOVER A MOUSE OVER THE VIDEO OR THE WHOLE THING DARKENS AND GETS UI PUT RIGHT IN THE FUCKING CENTER OF THE VIDEO YOURE WATCHING
We are watching mentally disabled tranny zoomers reinvent shit that already works and make it worse.

>Kubuntu discover loads stuff instantly though

cap, discover legit krashes all the time and I say that as a KDE contributor
gnome fixed their bullshittery around multithreading some releases ago but it still slow as shit
Bazaar is the best center at the moment
>>
>>107867746
How does Chicago95 look on zorin? Maybe one of my laptops could become a testbed...
