People always make fun of air coolers. Is it because it is deprecated technology?
>>
Yes.
Just water you PC it's got electrolytes.

I've got ten 140mm noctua fans in my fractal define 7 xl and it runs ice cold

Water cooling is better at handling sudden temperature spikes, but less reliable long-term.

Water cooling is a hassle, more fragile, requires maintenance, more expensive and has a risk of killing your components with a leak and it still needs air coolers. Fucking useless garbage.
>>

Everything has it's use cases.

/thread
there's specific scenarios where you want one or the other

What about cheeseburger suppositories?
>>
>>107869298
Yes, even a $70 240mm AIO mogs the NH-D15-G2, and they don't look xboxhueg.
>>
>>107869356
Same, but Corsair 750D Airflow Edition.
>>
>>107869298
water cooling is just air cooling with a middleman. most people don’t even use big enough radiators to meaningfully outperform good air coolers
>>
Air cannot carry heat like water. The very idea of needing to cool your pc is a psyop.
>>
It's inferior cooling, but if you don't need it, run away. Installation is more cumbersome, and pump noise -IS- annoying.
>>
It's only slightly better. And if you don't need it then you don't need it. It's quieter supposedly, but Idk how that possible since it's still using fans.
>>
>>107869520
The Elmer kind
>>
>>107869298
If you spend even half of what a decent AIO costs on air cooling the differences are negligable. Most people just like the aesthetics...

use case for air cooling?

Based Fractal enjoyer.

>>107869298
I'll always go for air cooling because when those fans fail the worst that happens is my PC just SCRAMs and shuts itself down from overheating vs. water spraying around the inside of my case like an actress in a JVN getting bukakked.
>>
>>107871521
any case with good vents, meshes at the front and back.

I spent a bunch on an aio because it made displaying waifus easier

What case is that?
>>
>>107871442
wtf is an air cooler? Looks like just a heatsink+fan? I don't get it
>>
>>107869298
Now that we're moving in the reverse direction hardware wise, hopefully all passive PC's become the mainstream norm.

Dead silent computing, not even coil whine because they're not pushing components so hard.
>>
In terms of permformance, yes water coolers are better than air.

In terms of durability, and cost sometimes air coolers are better and the best option.
>>
>>107869298
I have yet to find a situation where AIO's and custom loops are better than a proper air cooler in the long term.
I'm sure there are situations where water cooled is superior but for the common man, the gamer, the average editor etc it's not gonna be worth the downsides.
I have a Ryzen 9 7950X and after my Cooler Master MasterLiquid 360 ATMOS shit the bed and died a few months ago I bought a Noctua NH-D15S Chromax. Temps are instantly more stable, sure it's about 3-4 degrees (Celsius) higher on the highest high but other than that it's far better. It idles lower, it runs lower at mid-rage use. Doesn't fluctuate nearly as much.
>>
>>107871941
This. Water cooling theoretically has a higher potential, but a quality air cooler is going to be cheaper, more reliable, and practically the same for 99% of PC users. Unless you are doing extreme over clocking or something, just go with an air cooler.
>>
>>107869298
In a way, yes. Mostly because of modern CPUs' boosting algorithm.
>>
>>107869298
I'll never understand why air cooled fags love hearing fans spin up 24/7 while my dual xeon server has been watercooled for the better part of 6 years without issue.
>>
>>107871997
I can barely hear my air cooler even at 100%. It's not 2009 anymore, fans have come a long way.
>>
>>107872016
my work laptop fans are louder than my server at load.
>>
>>107872029
Craptops are fucking useless, overheating garbage so no surprise there.
>>
>>107872029
laptop fans are small fans that have to vent a tight confined space. Obviously they're gonna spin at 6 million RPM
>>
>>107869356
I wish I had gotten this case. Have the lancool iii instead.
>>
>>107872029
>laptop
Nobody was talking about latops retard.
>>
>>107872051
I was
>>
>>107872053
That's why I called you retarded.
>>
my case is aircooled and rarely exceeds 45C
>>
Noctua users are sexually attracted to air coolers so there's always going to be a market for air cooled CPUs
>>
>>107869298
I bought my NH-D15 to cool my 2500K and I'm still using it with my 5800X, and I'll still be using it in 10 years time.
