I don't even upgrade debian anymore, all the packages I use are so old they get removed (despite not being broken), or they introduce upstream bugs that nobody notices but me and I end up having to compile them from source to avoid regressions.I certainly won't update chromium anymore, last time I did, it completely broke compatibility with fcitx on plain xorg sessions, and then it mysteriously came back in the next version.
