Is it even worth it getting these Microsoft Surface ARM tablets? Anyone own one of these things?
>>107875209lolno, even Apple ARM slop isn't as good as gookbench scores might lead you to believe. If the vidya/software wasn't built from the ground up on ARM compilers, it's probably going to run like ass on a cellphone CPU.
>>107875294>aaa games run poorly on devices not intended to run aaa gamesno way
>>107875315From 2013....The point is ultimately companies are trying to replace legit computer CPUs (ie intel i5/ryzen 5) with cellphone CPUs (ie M1 is like higher clocked version of the iPhone A14). However there's currently a lot of computer vidya/software that hasn't been re-written for ARM compilers. AFAIK there"s like a gorrillion AVX stuff that needs to be re-written for NEON and that's no walk in the park.
>>107875209No. Native support for ARM on windows is dogshit, and the x86 to ARM translation layer is also utter dogshit, especailly compared to Rosetta 2 and Fex.>>107875294Seek professional help.>>107875480Nobody is seeking to replace actual desktop CPU's with ARM. Just their shitty mobile counterparts. x86 on laptops is in an embarassingly bad state and will never recover. It's just not up to the task when it comes to efficiency anymore, if it ever was to begin with. If it's battery powered, it should be running ARM. Just don't get a shitty Windows 11 "plus copilot" one.
>>107875689I dunno man, someone made a thread a while ago that shows that while ARM offers higher performance/watt it's not like 50% better.Having 16 hours of web browsing battery life instead of 10 hours is still pretty impressive, it's hard to deny that. However not ALL vidya/software has been ported to ARM yet so that should be taken into account.
>>107875480>From 2013....so? software written for a specific architecture won't run as good on a different architecture. it'd be the same if you tried to run arm software on x86. also no one's buying arm computers for vidya.
>>107875774Mmmmmm, nah. Bluestacks is pretty usable on a fucking intel i3 + GT 1030. Meanwhile you need like a $10,000 ARM supercomputer to run GTA V well.
