What was it?
>>
I have no idea, I think it was for isolating files to put on a floppy disk / USB?

Network accessible folder most likely.

It's for people with laptops aka rich businessman in the 90s. It was designed to sync files between just like grabbing your briefcase every day for work.

>It's for people with laptops
Exactly the opposite.
It would place a copy of your files on a floppy, so you could work on them at home.
Then, when you get back, you'd press "Update All," and any files that had newer modified dates would be replaced.

I mean, not the opposite at all. Your traveling with the floppy either to a remote place. That remote place could be with a desktop or a laptop it didn't matter.

a primitive version control system

It was there to make Windows look professional and businesslike so small companies would buy licenses for what was essentially a gaming and entertainment OS that also ran spreadsheet and word processing programs.

Linux has a similar tool that I used back in early 2021. It keeps thumbdrives/floppies/ local folders in exact sync

The folder on your disk corresponds to the folder on the thumbdrive and it updates to synch them. I forgot the linux alternative name
