He's a CEO, his legal duty is to the shareholders and make sure numbers go up at every quarter. Not to treat his loyal customer base well.

A reasonable well-adjusted person would stop once they're a multi-millionaire, because they've already accrued more wealth than they or the next 3 generations of their family could possibly spend. But something psychopathic causes certain people to keep going even once they've surpassed billions. It makes no sense other than that the person craves power and the ability to dominate the masses.
