Why all the hate?
>>
>>107888656
Give me the original uploaded format you fucking cunts.
>>
>>107888656
i hate it because nothing supports it
and because i hate it so much, i refuse to use software that supports it
>>

>NOOOOO!!!!!! My 25 year old image editerinooo can't open this!!!!!

It's a good format, even though nowadays avif btfos it at everything except for support.
>>
>Significantly smaller file sizes than PNG (up to 26% lighter) and JPEG (23–24% lighter) while keeping similar visual quality
>Supports both lossy and lossless compression, giving flexibility for quality vs. size needs
>Improves website loading speed, which boosts user experience and SEO performance
>High browser compatibility, with 96% of browsers offering full support and 2% partial support
>Supports transparency (alpha channel) even in lossy mode, unlike JPEG
>Open‑source format, easy to integrate into modern workflows
>Handles very large images, up to 16,383 × 16,383 pixels, suitable for high‑resolution use cases
>Designed specifically for the web, making it a strong replacement for older formats like JPEG, PNG, and GIF

It is OBJECTIVELY the superior format. Whoever thinks the opposite is a fucking contrarian and should be shot on the spot, you can't prove me wrong lol.
>>
>>107888656
Some CDNs force it making it impossible to get the original. Also can't post it on 4chinz.
Thanks for reminding me, I wanted to try if I can get rid of it by modifying the Accept Headers through an extension.
>>
>>107888807
>Objectively superior
Only if you ignore the other new formats you stupid nigger. JpegXL utterly btfos webp and it's not even close, solely because you can losslessly transcode Jpegs while saving space.
>>
Instead of 4Chan adding support for this, they change the captcha every two days.
>>
>>107888807
jxl and avif are better

Nobody ever experiences supposed benefits it offers, only the horrible misuse of it.
The lossless mode isn't bad, but nobody uses it. The lossy mode is only really suited to throwaway things like thumbnails, but sites horribly mangle full size images in conversion to it and refuse to serve the original.
All the while being BTFO by true next gen formats like JXL, and even the awful hack that is avif.

The browns that run windows 98 and browse /g/ are upset that their shitware doesn't support it.
>>
nobody goes "today I'll make a webp"

I do

Clear demonstration of abusing position in the market to force users into an inferior solution.

kek

post it then. oh wait, you can't.
>>
>>107888656
Only people that use outdated software hate it, just no other explanation.
I was not happy with it either because I thought it would be as shit as .jfif, turns out, literally everything supports it.
>>
>>107888656
>Why all the hate?
Literally no one here would care and this thread wouldn't exist if 4chan supported it
Every other online platform and image software that's been updated in the last 5 years support it
>>
I love webp

4chan is still larping as a 2003 imageboard, minus the added webm support.
>>
>>107889410
We might get AV1/Opus webm support in 2030
>>

>Give me the original uploaded format you fucking cunts.

this
every webp you see online is a quality degraded, recompressed image, served by cloudflare that further recompressed it.

>>107888807
>Improves website loading speed, which boosts user experience and SEO performance
completely irrelevant because websites have more javascript than images by this point.

>Handles very large images, up to 16,383 × 16,383 pixels, suitable for high‑resolution use cases
I have jpgs the size of 30000 x 17078, the format handles it fine. webp has no advantage here.

>Designed specifically for the web,
webp is just a webm keyframe, and webm is just the latest garbage from On2 whose previous formats include Adobe Flash Video (VP4 to VP6) and Theora (VP3). It would've went in the internet garbage bin of failed crap formats next to RealVideo, Bink, or Sorenson, if Google had not bought them up. Anyone in the professional industry will tell you that it's a garbage meme format and there's a reason why recording apparatus like digital cameras or even phones have no native support for it. Shit you can't even use it in, say, Viber.

excuse me mine is only 14 years out of date

if WebP actually did anything worth being its own format I might not hate it. Instead it's just "jpeg/png/gif except fuck you"
>>
>>107889644
Honest question; why use CS6 when you can just open Photopea in your web browser?
Photopea has all filters, supports all keyboard shortcuts, can even be 'installed' and supports more formats out of the box.
>>
>>107889679
nta, but I don't use web apps for things that could be done offline.
only offering something as a web apps makes it easier for devs and for beginners, not for serious users.

I just use the software that I already own and have been using for a decade, which still does everything I want it to. "open webp" is pretty far down on the list of things I care about
I'm not a photographer I just take a lot of photos for ebay selling which I run through PS for minor adjustments/cropping/etc
