It all started for me thinking I should get better speakers to enjoy my time sitting at desktop listening to music more.It started from choosing speakers for few hundred and ended up with €2k+ for speakers & amp. Before i swallow this pill which became quite painfully expensive wonder if it's all worth it. The value gains at higher price is so miniature if any but it all comes down to I'm gonna keep it and enjoy it forever so don't want to cheap out either. been there done that ?
>>107889735Really depends. What speakers/amp? How big is your room? What kind of setup, just for music? PC? home cinema?
>>107889735No reason to spend over $1000 on the speakers. Neumann KH 80 has perfect FR and directivity. The rest should be spent on the subwoofer(s). Room treatment is only needed for speakers with bad directivity that are far away from you. In most cases you need far less than the Neumanns. But if you have no sub and don't EQ you're missing out big time. No, speakers never get good enough to not need a sub.
>>107889735It all depends on your goals. Where would you listen to it? Do you want to listen to music, watch movies or both? How big is the room. I would say after $2000 for a stereo setup there's gonna be little improvement with every dollar. If you want multi channel it's a bit different.
>>107889735Reminder that if you're looking for more bass there's absolutely no reason to spend 1500 bucks on fancy gold-plated cables handmade by some artisan which claim to "noticeably increase the low-end especially in dynamic listening scenarios" when you could just turn the big dial on your amplifier labeled BASS, or alternatively invest into an equalizer or other signal processing devices for more refined control.
Just buy good studio monitors and you are set for life. I bought genelecs 12 years ago. I'm using just generic xlr->3.5mm cables straight to computer. You just can't beat this setup without using ridiculous amount of money for a very tiny improvement.
>>107890011unless you didn't get a subwoofer, you've deprived yourself of good sound for 12 years.genelec is good, but klippel measurement shows not worth the premium. and desu, i find them terribly ugly.
>>107889769Room: small bedroom. Amp: audiophonics. NC122mp core, cheapest hypex and hypex suppose to be gold standard of class d amps.Desktop pc setup.Speakers:Dali menuet or Dali menuet SE*(can't pay msrp, need to wait for sale)Speakers are very similar but it's a mental trap where SE is better on paper and I need to get that better one itch... It's hard to resist and i don't think I can. I hate myself though that i will need to spend that extra €500 just for piece of mind.
>>107890456Obviously you get a sub too. Most good monitor manufacturers make subs too just for that reason, to be used with their monitors. Even big monitors with 8inch drivers benefit from a proper sub. That's a no-brainer.
>>107889851>Neumann KH 80Thanks for the advice. It's for desktop setup so i red that i can eq via software if i ever need to.
>>107890464for your usage, a desktop pc setup, you need nearfield speakers.dali designs speakers based on normal room placements, not one hand away on a desk.like anon said a Neumann KH 80 with subwoofer sounds way better for nearfield listening.tho you could at worst just run everything through some room correction software.i ran small dali 5 channel setup with denon amplifier for a while and used their room correction, worked fine on my pc setup, without room correction it sounded complete fucking ass as nearfield speakers.i always advocated used speaker markets.dali increased the prices on the current gen too much.dali zensor 5 was like 400 euros, dali oberon 5 which is new replacment is 900 euros, like what a joke fuck em.
>>107889735>g expensive sound system worth it ?Absolutely not, scammers buy broken ones fix it flimsy like and ship it to you for over half the store price and thy for for a month or two.
>>107890456>Presonus Eris Pro Sub 10Is this woofer good?I was also recommended Yamaha HS8S but it's smaller and more expensive.
>>107890496I had them for two weeks. If you just want to listen to music they are brutal overkill and at least unequalised can be unpleasant to listen to for a longer period cause they are still monitors. Especially if your room is shit e.g. a small room with a lot of echo it's not worth spending too much. Neumanns software was primarily for Mac from what I remember.
I don't fully get genelec and neumann design choice. If you're making €500+ speakers why not spend few extra bucks to at least wrap them mdf. I'm sure they are good speakers but I would prefer paying a little bit extra for nicer visuals. I guess it's just taste difference.
>>107889735idk as I got older proper equalization means everything to me, hardware not so much anymore.
>>107890640Yeah i'm still leaning for dali menuet though. Actually I didn't even audition them yet but i spend at least few days reading every review and comment i could possible find about them. Apparently really small speakers are rare and don't get much attention. But it's suppose to be small for smaller room and nearfield soooo I cant really go bigger and there's not much to choose from smaller ones. unless it's ~100bucks ones that i don't really want to care about.
>>107890693You have plenty of active or passive (if you don't mind an amp) bookshelf speakers with 4" drivers that would work but if your space is really limit a more fitting desktop size is 3.5" but yea the options are very limited there. I think Kanto and Edifier had a some speakers with 3.5" drivers. I personally cannot stomach nearfield monitors maybe because my ears are a bit sensible but this can be very individual from person to person.
