I got cable internet in 1996 (500kbit/s down) and I installed Debian 1.1 (Buzz) on a Compaq 386 that I was using as a server on my 10 base2 home network. I did switch between Slackware and Debian at the time, also had to compile my own kernel since IP masquerading (the ancestor of NAT) wasn't included in the distro kernel. My first experience with linux was Slackware 1.0 that I installed from floppies downloaded from the local university library. good old times

My first Debian was Woody. I can literally see the grey coming in my beard, in the mirror each morning.
