Thanks for the info, they look neat. I already made my choice and I'm going to stick with it for now but maybe in a few years if I need something new or start looking for an upgrade I'll look into them. They look nice I like the aesthetics and anything not made by china would be a positive.
>>
>>107907290
cable's just dual 3.5mm. earpads are the regular 110mm, it has a metal ring, you put the pads on the ring and then just magnet in. headband is 110mm too if you want to replace it.

Gonna blind it with the 650s vs a Fiio chinkniggerdongle in a month or two for the memes, always fun (and important) to dot hat sorta shit. Have a feeling the volume matching on that test will be abysmal to do though.
No point doing it with the Uli since the Fiio can't drive it.

Why didn't you answer the question? I was being genuine when I asked what was the most expensive thing you're listened to.
I bought my mum an Apple dongle and cheap buds for Christmas, I have nothing against cheap stuff. I ran my 650s out of a shitty Rode interface and a cheap Fiio for years before I got this Jot. And the only reason I got the Jot was to drive the demanding headphones I bought.

it's a 'streaming receiver' and an amp. So, it can power passive speakers and connect to a sub and take in various inputs. Works over wifi, so connects to the NAS, plex, etc. but also bluetooth in/out, optical in, rca in, USB out to a DAC if you want
I'm sure it does nothing exceptionally, but I happened to have a couple of passive speakers and a sub that I wanted to use, and also will make use of pretty much all of the inputs, so it just worx for me

Also, any dac/amp you guys recommend for those particular headphones? Preferably not something too expansive as im pretty broke
>>
>>107908604
Any sort of cheap closed back is typically gonna be warmish tuning, so the OP recs should cover that imo.

For those you genuinely wouldn't need more than a dongle, pick whichever one has features you like or good QC. If you're adamant on a desktop setup, just an Atom2 stack or Magni Unity + Mesh, but you really shouldn't need either.

Philippines(am American and living in Manila for half the year due to work)
$400
An upgrade to HD58x , I’ve had them since release in 2018 along with an FiiO E10K I’ve EQ’d them to hell and back and changed to dekoni hybrid pads two years ago .

Love the bass but wanted to get better mids and treble so I thought about upgrading to the HD660S2 which I’ve been told is a clearer HD58x

Sony MDR-MV1 has also caught my attention as my experience with their products have been positive from old 7506 many decades ago to recently the MX4 which had surprisingly good EQs for Bluetooth.

TLDR ; can’t decide what upgrade I should go with , will still use my dac/amp
HD660S2 or MDR-MV1 . Love bass but want a better soundstage especially for video games and movies that I’ll occasionally watch.

Just for the love of god if you do end up getting them, download the nguienty beta , update drivers and turn on DTS(optional) then go straight to peace EQ and never mess with nguienty ever again outside driver updates.

>>
>>107910678
Any banana type stand(with a wide top) is fine. If the top is narrow it'll wear out the headband so get one with a wide top. And never use those head/omega shaped ones because they wear out the pads and according to Audeze it can damage planar magnetic drivers(they still use them to showcase their shit though kek).
>>
>>107909987
Be sure get the right version , for whatever reason they have 3 cloud 3 versions
Cloud 3S, it’s the best version between the 3 and 3 wireless
All the benefits of the wired version but with 2.4ghz connection so audio barely takes a hit compared to majority of Bluetooth headphones and a much better mic than cloud3 wireless
>>
>>107911000
the headband pads definitely wear out with any stand
>>
>>107911079
As long as they're not being constantly compressed(which is what the omega stands do) then any sort of additional wear is negligible at best. Unless the pads are pleather, maybe.

R70x aren't as detailed as the HD660s2 but have a better stage, consider them if you can get a good price. The 600/660 have an 'in your head' feel, like the soundstage is very narrow.
>>
>>107909710
MV1 is like a baby Z1R which doesn't bleed warmth into the mids if I'm remembering right, which is a good thing obviously. Also well priced, I'd say easy pick over the 660s if we're picking one of them.

Just get a cheap Capra strap or something and use it to hang off the stand, you won't find whatever retarded creation you're looking for to preserve the headband - that usually isn't the issue people worry about using a stand, haha.

If he was informed or understood anything I'd get it, there's a fair bit to criticise Schiit for and it's funny that the Mimir pretty much outperforms everything 10x its cost. But this dude is genuinely 60IQ and is clearly just copy pasting ASR talking points and macros into /hpg/ without understanding any of it.
You can tell when it's him too: all lower case, specific grammar choices, endless seething at absolutely nothing, thinks everything above a dongle or an Atom2 is a scam.

DCA aeon
audeze lcd2/x
>>
>>107913844
Chinkfimen usually are a little brighter in the tuning, good cheap starting point.
Depends how much further you wanna go up from there, if you can try stuff in person definitely give estats a demo, or a DCA closed back
>>
>>107913869
i wouldn't buy hd800s because i don't believe that high price means better sound
for the same reason i won't consider your other suggestions

I can't decide whether to use the 4x12 sub drivers I have for their initial purpose (picrel, open baffle dipole Gradient SW63 replica for Quad ESL63) or make ripole subs and use them with all my speakers.

I also don't have any clue how to design a BLH either, any other anons got tips on where to get started?

Your headphones have a weight, and gravity will pull them down, and therefore press against the headband pad

Verum 2 then, should be in your price bracket since you own 650s

My favourite zeos moment is when he said the dt 880 600 ohm sounded like he could hear the voice of god, then immediately after the review sells it
>>107913985
I see, the best thing to do would probably be to go and demo a bunch of gear and see without needing to spend money. But things like used Aeons are cheaper than the msrp of the 600/650/r70xa and are regularly resold, audezes tend to be a lot more and the hd 800 a lot more than that even sometimes, or stax. The other anons suggestions if you only new are probably the way to go. A lot of the lower cost headphones are just going to be side grades to you in my opinion but they might be worth checking out anyways
>>107914032
i liked the r70x driver, and the headband was the worst part so i imagine if it's any better than the og they are quite appealing.

he's such a grifter it's unreal lmao. It's so funny to see some of the names putting out products with Apos (CEE TEE, Geshelli, and now Benson) and then you got shitlers like Zeos, Josh Valor and Lachlan (not the cool asian Lachlan) dropping slop products on there.

Magni Unity + Mesh DAC if you want something cheap.
JDS Element 4 if you want good built-in PEQ and use Bookshelf speakers too (Core is a great EQ & Pre-Amp system).
DX5II if you want your headphones to blow up or love troubleshooting firmware bugs ever time Topping updates it.

>>
>>107914306
Scamming audiophiles is always based. He wanted to scam even harder by putting the pads backwards but that was too much even for chinks.
>>
>>107914596
It's funny how his entire immediate circle are at the worst SBAF half science/half-objective types, and at the most full on objectivists like Resolve and then he is just there telling people $4k cables make a sound difference lmao.
Even Skedra, who makes boutique cables, is open saying his shit is just for fashion. Zeos is on a whole other plane with the grift.
>>
>planar is crinkling constantly
Is that something I should worry about on FT1 Pro?
Every time I press on them (to fix seal etc) there's some kind of plasticky crumpling sound inside.
>>
>>107914623
Yeah wouldn't shock me if other cheap Chinese planars have this issue too, the difference is probably yours were caused by wear/natural degrading of the driver (which is a downside of planars).
The issue with the Serene was it was made so poorly it was crinkling out of the box.
>>
>>107914654
Mine are new. Actually after a month the sound got quieter and shorter than out of the box.
>>
>>107914682
Dodgy chink-fi build then I'd say, unfortunate. Might be a DIY somewhere if you wanna take a crack at it, but yeah sounds like the driver ate it early.
>>
>>107914697
>the driver ate it early.
Did it? It does not seem to affect output sound quality in normal use, even when moving around, only when physically pressing (pumping) on them.
>>

do you like having the knob on top?
i couldnt see myself liking it so i didn't buy one when i had the chance for cheap
>>
>>107915420
I liked the Element 4 for the time I had it, fwiw. It's a good unit, I just never EQ shit so I was wasting it. I think Core is a really interesting ecosystem they're building, and the JDS/Golden Sound Roon streamer is gonna be a nice addition to it.
Selling it and grabbing the Jot3 was mostly to do with the balanced in/outs.
>>107915458
It's actually pretty easy to get used to, and that knob glides.
>>
>>107915458
the knob is very satisfying, i bought mine used on head-fi so i didn't get the chance to customize it, but it does have the resin knob and i got it for a good price.
>>107915482
yeah, that's my only gripe with the element. i know you can request a 4.4 input if you buy it direct but i wish it was just standard. core is great though, and makes it almost a fair trade off. i'm sure if i e-mailed them they could swap it out if i asked.
>>
>>107915517
John Seaber is also the GOAT of customer service. Schiit these days is really good, but nobody is gonna top John.
Yeah you can get a 4.4mm in place of a SE if you ask (think it's a lil more for them to do the switch). I have XLR cables unfortunately so it was GG for me.
>>
>>107915536
i had avoided schiit because my magni/modi 2 stack had the issue where it needed to heat up before it started working, but i'm glad to see they've fixed their newer releases unlike topping which seems to get worse with every new product they release.
>>
>>107915585
Yeah overall QC has come a long way for them. I remember when I got my first ever O2ODAC Schiit were a no-go. They're also printing boards in-house now, so they can just QC at the source now rather than playing stupid games with 3rd party makers.

you should not use a scarlett 2i2 gen 3 as a dac you would be better off in every way to get a chifi dac dongle you will have better performance in every measurable metric. focusrite was the only audio equipment I've had that I hated more than shiit, and I own the 4th gen which is better than 3rd in every measurable way, but it's still shit. i'd get the crinear protocol max which has more than enough power and is a far better dac than that.
but if you insist, that market doesn't really exist and there's nobody trying to fill a hole in a market that doesn't exist since all budget audio equipment has been solved by a $10 dongle from apple, unless you need a bit more power then you find a dongle with an opamp. if you really insist on going down this path your best bet would be something like the JDS atom amp 2 which is like $130 usd
>>107917047
those are the only decent "headset" that exists but make sure you get the maxwell 2 since the new version fixes a lot of the issues with the old ones, apparently. I haven't personally used them yet. I'd still recommend standalone solutions but if you want the form factor it's the best there is.
