I will not switch to Linux. Windows is comfy. Linux is the definition of uncomfy.

True but they will not like this and they will seethe and cope hard. You know the usual crap like "sheep", "skill issue", "bro you don't need bla bla" etc.

Mmm not being spied on 24/7, not being forced to watch ads constantly and having a functioning OS is "uncomfy"...

Troonix won't provide all of those by default. If you want full control over your shit, it's gonna cost you some tinkering and that's true for any OS modern enough to be used online.

im swapping to mint today for the opposite reasons. im sick of windows 10 screaming at me to try out their random nonsense. its uncomfortable to open word and have to manually set it to save on MY computer every time instead of on onedrive for some reason. im SICK of being spammed "are you sure?" about local accounts every time i try to set up a computer. i try to login to msword and windows is like "ah, that means you want to swap to using this account for the entire computer, right?" NO! just msword!
linux mint doesnt do that shit. linux mint just gets out of the way. thats what i hope, anyways. if something is annoying on mint at least i have the solace of knowing its because they didnt have the resources to make it work yet, rather than on windows where im like "dude billion dollar company but theyre obsessed with adding AI to a desktop instead of fixing general usability for some fucking reason"

>>
>>107915372
I discovered that you'd never get an answer to a problem from Linux Gurus by asking. You have to troll in order for someone to help you with a Linux problem. For example, I didn't know how to find files by contents and the man pages were way too confusing. What did I do? I knew from experience that if I just asked, I'd be told to read the man pages even though it was too hard for me. Instead, I did what works. Trolling. By stating that Linux sucked because it was so hard to find a file compared to Windows, I got every self-described Linux Guru around the world coming to my aid. They gave me examples after examples of different ways to do it. All this in order to prove to everyone that Linux was better. So if you're starting out Linux, I advise you to use the same method as I did to get help. Start the sentence with "Linux is gay because it can't do XXX like Windows can". You will have PhDs running to tell you how to solve your problems.

You can't even customize windows, you have to actively fight against it for doing the most basic automation, you are constantly spied, humiliated, pushed microslop malware down your throat without your consent, your system updates on your own and restart by itself, no simple way that just werks to automatically and safely update software without going to random webpages, ads in the start menu, atrocious UI with a gorillion different inconsistent redesigns from the mid-90's to today, I could go on...
What the hell is comfy about all that shit?
Linux has none of those problems, there are distros that just werk and distros that offer you full control, you have choice, you own your computing, you can customize your system, now that is comfy.

Debloating Windows is literally many orders of magnitude harder and time consuming than configuring Linux (which is optional cause most distros just work), and at every update (mandatory of course) half of the settings will be remotely reset bythe indians at microsoft.

yall im gonna have to side with op here. ive used so many distros and yes yes some of them are good (like fedora or arch or literally anything not gentoo, fuck you gentoo) while others (such as gentoo) make me question my sanity. the thing is that windows has a huge ecosystem which depending on what u do can either make or break linux. also the linux community seems to be a little too neglectful of malware (MAC USERS USED TO THINK THE SAME ABOUT MALWARE TOO!!!!). A good example of ecosystem is Adobe, FACEIT, etc, etc. And while you could say that Adobe is an unethical company and u shouldnt be using them and use something like DaVinci or GIMP or Krita or whatever, the matter of the fact is that so many people are used to the features and keybinds and UIs of Adobe that for most its not a very easy switch, especially if you already know what ur doing works. Linux is not uncomfy if you pick something like Mint, Fedora, or Ubuntu (yes yes i already hear ur bickering, why dont u go update ur system for the 69th time today), but rather there is so much Windows only software that neither WINE or Proton can reasonably support at this time. More than you think. So if you dont care about the customization and your system is still working, then go ahead and stay on Windows. If you want something faster then maybe next upgrade install LTSC IoT with something like massgrave and worst case ur going to have to manually install some redistributables which isnt very hard if you know how to run setup exes and know how to use google to search up the error codes. OP has the right conclusion, but wrong reasoning. Im not saying that linux is bad, its a beautiful system and i personally caught myself using it for most of 2025, its just not for everyone and there are very serious things you need to be cautious of. If you want to daily drive a unix system maybe go try mac or dualboot linux

>>107914556 Windows is just fine and you don't need to switch if you don't want to, however I think it's pretty comfy. I'm on Nobara and I don't have to do any tinkering at all, it just works with everything even old 90s games. Took 5 minutes to install and an afternoon to get the hang of where everything is. If you wanna keep Windows sure I don't blame you for wanting to stick with what is most comfortable for you. Windows 10 LTSC is gonna be supported till the 2030s so you have options besides Windows 11. It is a comfy OS, you aren't wrong about that and it doesn't make you less than any other user for having preferences.

However even though I was also hesitant to take the plunge, it's been a much nicer and concise OS for the time I've used it. My distro is one of the ones designed to be able to do everything you need outside of the terminal, you'll very rarely ever need to open it. It also comes prepackaged with everything you need for gaming so you don't have to set that up at all really. Just make sure your drivers are up to date. One of the only times I had to use the terminal was when I noticed my speakers were popping. I just googled the issue and then the AI presented me with the exact line I needed to paste into the terminal to fix it. It was because of Intel's power saving function on the processor if you're curious. If you ever do need to open the terminal, which you likely won't, then just google whatever it is you want to do or fix and you are given the line you need to paste instantly with no hassle. There are of course elitists who rag on OS's like this but just ignore them lol it really doesn't matter all that much if you use Arch or not. There's a good amount of other distros like this which accomplish the same goal if you don't want a fedora based distro, like EndeavorOS or Pop!OS which are Arch and Ubuntu based respectively.

Use whatever is best for you but keep in mind that there are distros which are just as, if not more comfy than Windows.

Linux isn't perfect, but Microshit is getting worse and worse. Even if you don't care about privacy, Windows is actively fighting against traditional, oldschool computing. Windows 10 IoT LTSC is probably the last version of good windows. Inb4: "kys zoomie" I used most windows versions for more than 30 years. I just mean the general shift that is happening. Can you imagine what Windows 12 will be like? I don't even hate windows, I always liked using it. I still have old software and portable.exe's backed up, but microsofts current direction is just horrible.
>But my software
What software? You must be talking about gayming and kernel anti cheat. I'm a photographer and I literally don't know anyone in creative spaces using Windows. All of them are running Macs. And even for programming, Mac and Linux is much better (sure, not for .NET). Okay fair, and there is some niche software and proprietary peripheral software that doesn't work on saarnix. But my point is, I don't hate Windows, it's just sad to see where it's going and I don't want to use fucking debloat scripts, checking my settings after every update, fucking around with registry and literally fighting my OS, thats why I still say 10 IoT LTSC is one of the good ones. So you better get used to troonix, I don't even get how you can hate saarnix so much? It's a free product and it's moving so fast.

I'll probably try it when I upgrade my 5 year old GPU to an AMD card but not right now. Arch doesn't have very good support for NVIDIA so I'm sticking with what I have, might try Pop! at some point cause I hear they have the best support for NVIDIA. Probably not upgrading for a long time though for obvious reasons...

Most popular distros are pozzed to a degree, but unless you're schizo enough to the point you're running Tails OS on a VM or something, you won't really have to worry about being spied on.

>>
>>107916755
Maybe he didnt, because the thing YOU want to be able to do is not something he needed to do. Nobara mostly doesnt need much tinkering if you use it for a gaming distro, if you are trying to do stuff that itsnt the default behaviour then of course you might have to tinker. And why is tinkering bad anyways? It lets you better understand your software/OS. Once again, this is why nobody likes you. You cant even have an actual conversation with people and im unsure if your autistic ass even knows how to.
>>
>>107916585
Why do you believe that you need Arch, especially for dated tech? not that there's anything wrong with 5 year old hardware desu.
>>
>>107915587
Doubt it, ntp.org is basically DDoSed as part of its daily functioning. Almost every device that syncs it’s time through the internet defaults to ntp.org pools. Imagine every single IoT and consumer device asking you for not just an ICMP ping, but also complex timing data, and the budget starts to make sense. They also maintain a lot of accurate rubidium or GPS calibrated clocks all over the place, since proximity is important for accurate time syncing.

MSVC also requires you download the Windows SDK, and the installer is all wrapped in a bunch of shit that you don’t need. You probably can just stick the MSVC binary in a directory, but I imagine it’d be like pulling teeth. The typical flow for developing on windows is:
- Download a 200mb installer
- Installer then takes 30 minutes plus to install 10+ GBs of SDK, Visual Studio, DLLs and god knows what
- Hope the installer doesn’t break
- You’re set!
>>
>>107916782
Again, do you actually know how to have conversations with people or are you just going to keep autistically screeching at your computer screen while you piss and shit your diaper.

What is the information that you are trying to communicate. That people should never have to open a terminal? Because idk how delusional you are but there are plenty of times where I had to tinker a lot with my sound settings on windows. Especially when it comes to sample rate and getting older games to run.

I see where OP coming from. I have a big folder of stuff like old games, VNs, eroges, total conversion mods, etc and most of them you just unpack a .zip and run and that's all, it will work and keep working forever. The main thing that's comfy about Windows is all the software for it. Of course most steam games just work now but these aren't on steam, now I have to think about prefixes and shit or whether some of them have source ports and I should compile the native version, and now if I compile it it'll eventually break when a dependency updates, it's not the same.
If some artist I follow on twitter releases a little porn game I want to just grab, play it and put it aside, I don't want to have to be That Guy who asks about linux or discovers later on that there was supposed to be music but it was missing because of a wine issue.

I don't think proprietary software is usually comfy though, it's generally kind of weird and trying to upsell you or lock you in or break through your firewall. Like I notice most of >>107914836 complaints are about Word, just try out libreoffice dude, if you switched to linux you would need to find a replacement for Word anyway.

That said if they ever force a ms account to use windows I'm fucking gone, I will never ask a company for permission to log in to my pc
>>
>>107916923
Windows is great for all the things you said, my problem is just, that I basically get everything for free on the internet: Games, Movies, Shows and yes, even Software. But there was a point, where it felt so fucking weird, having very important and personal data on the same machine, where I'm using my russian photoshop and "le free" games. I literally can't execute this bullshit as admin anymore without being stressed out, nothing ever happend, but still.

I'm using Linux now, sure I don't use shit like photoshop anymore, but I'm feeling much more secure using qbittorrent and a vpn on Linux than on fucking Windows. Games running in a proton prefix, inside a flatpak, even IF some malware breaks out, it's probably for windows and if not, it doesn't even have admin privs. So yea, sailing the seas is basically the only reason (and privacy) why I'm on loonix.
>>
>>107917020
Photoshop works on wine now, granted it's a recent breakthrough but it works
>>
I will say, on Fedora KDE, I had to manually activate a Bluetooth device in CLI, but it was rewarding. I actually learned how Bluetooth works. Microsoft insulted me by disabling local accounts, and I want nothing to do with them, ever again
>>
>>107917038
Yea I saw that, but I don't want to rely on hax for a company as shitty as adobe. And gimp + krita is enough for my basic stuff. But just like with gayming companies, if they don't support troonix and the future is uncertain, I won't download that bs. Luckily there are a couple cool devs that support saarnix and openly state keeping the troonix support up. I just don't want to get too attached to gaymes and in the end they drop support.
>>
>>107917057
I never had to do that on Fedora KDE. Every bluetooth device just werks. But I'm glad your shit werks now.

I was pleasantly surprised how well proton works for games. While I refuse to go online with a Steam account I didn't know you could run an offline, frankenstein version of emulator hack-enhanced Steam where you add "non-steam game" select Experimental and everything just works even faster than Windows

I don't, I like Nobara I just think trying out other distros is a good idea to expand my knowledge on the subject. Staying with my card as long as I can and I'll be keeping Nobara on a dual boot if I do try something like Pop! I just wouldn't switch to Arch until I would get an actual benefit from it.
>>107916782
Yeah one single instance of needing to do something in the terminal, how terrible. Have you never opened CMD once on Windows? Not even to check your IP address or anything? You and people like you are WAAAAY too stupid to converse with, please hop on the next flight to Africa where you belong.

This is true, nestling into a terminal session is one of the most comfy things in computing. Its one of the things I miss the most on Windows. Powershell has ctrl-r and history but the shell is shit.
Its funny how you have newbies complaining about how linux makes them use the terminal when it's the main selling point of the OS to me.

I bet you don't even know Education Edition is in the Retail ISO and can be activated with retail keys.

Good thing I'm not a laptop user! It's also great that there are other things you could paste or type to fix that if you were hypothetically a craptop user

>>and I recommend everyone else to "instaslop" shit you don't care to understand whenever you encounter a problem (ootb!!!!!!)
Looking things like that up is literally a part of learning how to use the terminal. What you expect people to just sit in front of the monitor typing random shit in until it does something? You are retarded, I'm surprised you can even use Windows. I can use sudo just fine I just don't need to for the grand majority of the time.

>>don't forget that linux comfy distro just works ootb and works for you
Yeah it does just work, haven't had to do much at all besides install proton updates. You are coping way too hard over this dude I don't think anyone is laughing with you.

Oh what, should GloriousEggroll have made a teamspeak server to post news and updates instead? Should he have just made his own website and forum for his users? Get your head out of your ass my god man (still troon likely).

He's typing all of this with a plug up his 400lb ass, I am a psychic I know this for a fact. Don't worry people he (troon) is going to pass out soon from too much lard clogging his (troon) neurons, it has no where else to go so it's now seeping into his (troon) brain.

Strawman

I didn’t say you need college to change a setting in Windows. Getting certified and actually having an education covers a whole host of things. However, having in-depth prior knowledge on a subject lends credence to when a claim is made.

So the answer is: no, you don't have any certifications, and you are a /v/edditor.

Yes, but you're not allowed to run any software that wasn't developed (or at the very least recompiled) in the last 2 years, otherwise it won't run at all because of changes in the userspace ABI/API.
>>
>>107914556
I'm quite comfy though.
Especially since now I have less of a chance of breaking shit with an update on linux than I do on Windows.
And if it breaks on Linux then there's a good chance it's my own fault too.
