>be me
>buy ThinkPad P53 on eBay
>realize I would probably be fine with my 15 yld desktop and a meh 2017 business laptop instead
>decide to not be greedy
>remember that the P53’s trackpoint’s left clicker button doesn’t properly click (clicks but no clickly feel)
>be retarded and “see how hard it would be to fix if I kept it”
>fix it partly to the point where they might think I am lying if I return it under “not as expected”
>can’t unfix it the same way I “fixed it”
>shipping it back as a normal return would cost $20-30 in shipping
>note: seller is a business seller
>mfw I fix something and make my life worse because of it
Unfixing it by putting something sticky or padded under the button might make it look like I am lying about its initial condition.

I kinda sorta want to keep it since it was an okay deal (?) at 320+30 taxes for 9850H, t1000, 48gib, no ssd, minor wear, fair battery, w/ charger, and good screen, but I guess I don’t really NEED it? I don’t know; either way I will be crying and regretting my decision. If I got a job on the weekends or something, with the amount of time I have spent worrying about this stuff I could have practically gotten it for free by now.

You sound like a wreck, please don't transition or do any long term commitments because you will regret those too.

You need to stop freaking out about every little thing and get a grip on your life. I assume you're the same guy from last time freaking out about a P53 and money.

Yes. Get a job. Even though you now have the laptop, you will be able to do many other things with money including help your mother with her bills.

I will regret letting my body get raped by T too. If I didn't oversleep my alarm to trade with some dude in Africa, I would have got BTC today and would have ordered EEn by now. I guess I could have accepted the +13% alternative but am stringy. Now, with school, I will have to be up at like 4am tomorrow to start the trade and, if he doesn't respond, find another dealer.

As in a cheap donor to replace and then keep? If so, is the price a good deal? Or should I just return it and try the old laptop instead? I tried making a Reddit account and a post on r/thinkpad but it was auto deleted as spam by Reddit and the mods never answered.

That is a bit harder than it sounds if you are said person freaking out.

>I assume you're the same guy from last time freaking out about a P53 and money.
I feel weirdly happy about being remembered.

I will try to get a weekend job soon, and see if I could do 12 hour shifts since transportation anywhere for me is depressingly long because the bus routes in my city suck (and it is in a shitty star topology without any rings past downtown).

>Even though you now have the laptop
Should I try to return it? I don't strictly need it, but it would make my life better (unless I get super annoyed by the clicker).

I know, but you still need to do it.

That's good. I think you'll probably find the 12 hour shifts bring problems of their own but any approach is better than nothing here.
If you are American you should learn to drive. It's basically required to live there and made incredibly cheap compared to everywhere else in the world. Americans have no idea how good they have it, so take advantage of that if that's you.

Last thread I told you that going for that much RAM was pointless, and it still is. If you hadn't bought a laptop already I'd say save the money and get something cheaper, but since you've already bought it it's not really worth your time to return it and seek a new one for the grand total in saving of around $100, plus it isn't a bad deal all round. Consider that "lost" saving a small write off, enjoy your pointless RAM (until you see that it is pointless) and just use your laptop for whatever it is you need it for. Once you have a job you'll start to understand how little that $100 difference between your laptop and say, a Dell Latitude, is really worth in the long run.
You're right that owning a computer will improve your life. It's crazy to me how many people just don't have one, and it really limits their mobility (social, literal, just everything).

No like find a broken laptop and swap the trackpads

I downloaded my state's driving manual a while ago and am reading it.

>Last thread I told you that going for that much RAM was pointless, and it still is.
When I was buying it, I determined that P53 models were the best value while still having enough ports, etc. and the only complete, working one in good condition was this, which didn't cost much more than the worse quality 16-32gb ones.

>since you've already bought it it's not really worth your time to return it and seek a new one for the grand total in saving of around $100, plus it isn't a bad deal all round.
Even with it not having any drive? This model has two m.2 slots and a spot for a sata drive which needs an adapter to work; pic related. This can be bought for $17 on Amazon to use my current drive (mx550 1tb) or, I could just buy an m.2 drive, for ~$55: decent 512gb, or ~$75: occasionally good 1tbs. Buying an adapter feels wasteful given that it doesn't actually give any storage but good nvme drives are expensive and beyond my needs.

>Once you have a job you'll start to understand how little that $100 difference between your laptop and say, a Dell Latitude, is really worth in the long run.
If it didn't have the clicker issue I probably would just accept it and move on. The clicker seems to have unfixed itself a bit? Not back to the practically broken level, but it occasionally (not often) doesn't click with a light tap, needing a deeper press (this might be me not being used to trackpoint buttons). I don't know what I should do about that, but a normal laptop wouldn't even have those buttons and the P53 allows normal touchpad clicking too.

Oh, that was poor wording; I meant to buy a separate trackpad module to replace the one in the P53 I bought. That would work but, I still don't know if it is keeping because it still needs an adapter/m.2 drive.

The only thing that might justify a full refund rather than just a return is that business seller said there was only cosmetic damage--but the partly broken clicker is functional damage.

Cool. Having a car will help you a lot.
How full is your current 1TB? If it's 50% or less, I would get the adapter. If not, I would get the 512GB SSD. You don't seem to be stupid or anything so just make a spreadsheet of pros and cons for each approach. You don't need us to work this part out for you.
>Buying an adapter feels wasteful
It's not wasteful. It is a necessary component if you want to use that part of your laptop.
Once you have a job, you will earn back that money with just a couple of hours of work (or closer to just one depending on state), and the whole laptop will be paid off with a few days work. It'll take less time than you've been spending worrying about this whole thing.
