which are you hopping to next?
Xubuntu -> Ubuntu MATE -> DebianDebian just works. Doubt I'll ever hop again.

>>107921579Arch cured my distrohopping 2 years agoNow I'll only consider hopping again if Valve releases a SteamOS iso
>>107921579I distrohopped from Linux Mint to Windows 10.
People distrohop because there isn't a single perfect Linux distro. The problem with Linux is that is full with incompatibilities and bugs.
>>107921801why? it seems like a downgrade if you're already running arch, it's just more simple/atomic if you dont wanna manage shit.>>107921810most of my hopping was just to check out alternatives
>>107921820Well as for me no distro that I've tried worked without issues. Shit just sometimes doesn't work even if you read the manual, I'm back on Windows where I don't have to fight to have my stuff work.
distrohopping is gigasperg behaviori was thinking of using gentoo but i don't really see the point in using it
>>107921810They distrohop because they're retards who don't even need a computer. People who need to use their computer don't give a flying fuck about which DE it's running.

>>107921579>which are you hopping to next?Ubuntu Studio probably
>>107922020If you're hopping due to Desktop Environment, you're a retard. You can install Gnomse, KDE, LXDE/XFCE, ODB-Yeah-You-Know-Me on ANY distro. And if you can't, it's probably not worth using.
>>107921579Aurora probably. I'm already on a Universal Blue distro so it's just one terminal command.
>>107921579What is even worth checking out when they're all reskins of Ubuntu? Best I can tell, people settle on either Arch (because they're crazy) or Debian (because they value stability)
>>107922152fuck no its not 'reskins of ubuntu' thats only true for mint/zorinthere's a whole ecosystem of arch/fedora/opensuse systems
mint 22.2 -> mint 22.3
Embrace slackware
>>107921820>why? it seems like a downgradeProbably is, but even if I love Arch, it still is not a truly "just works" distro. I broke my system twice in the last 2 yeats I've been using it due to it sharting itself during updatesAlso I like Valve and the most demanding thing I do with my PC is gaming, so it appeals to me.I'll probably just stick to Arch desu
>>107922354if you want 'just werks' + gaming why not bazzite?
I've been using Linux for a year and the only distros I've used are Linux Mint and Ubuntu.
>>107921579if I find no more challenges in Void I'll probably force myself to fuck with gentoo just to know what it's like. if i ever give up on glibc then full blown alpine or a openBSD, which isnt a distro but lets not split hairs. that it. after that you either make your own distro or blow your brains out
> DesktopMint > Slackware > #! > Debian > Slackware > Gentoo (My servers run debian, I change apt source.list to stable.)Mint introduced me to linux as an alternative. Slack taught me how messy windows style program installation can be. Crunchbang helped me developed basic skills in customizing and ricing. Debian showed me how I can steal configs from derivative distros to modify my own system. In my return to slackware I learned about source code compiling. Then I threw myself into the ocean of Gentoo.>>107921579Distro hopping is acceptable. Creating a mentality that encourages jumping into shitty derivative distros is retarded. >>107921841Been using it 7 years, only thing I've concluded is: I can shape my system to my own needsIMO if you intentionally update your system more than twice a month just use Arch or some other package based system.
>>107923086I highly recommend Fedora Plasma because it just werks and is comfy.
>>107921579I don't want to hop (again), I've been appreciating arch xfce, but damn I need an AMD graphics card
>>107922354what do you do when it sharts itself due to updates? I'm admittedly more of a windows user at the moment so am unfamiliar
>>107921579>distro hoppingall distros are the sameDO SOME FUCKING WORKinsttead of mucking around ricing and reinstalling and configuring. just fucking get on with it.just admit you have nothing better to do. go outside. touch grass literally.
>>107921579None, I'm fully satisfied with my own distro.
>>107924886its my main machine for a year now>>107924869hopping is great but ideally you should use a minipc or cheap/old laptop or something or install+run it from a usb drive so you can have a stable main system while hopping on an alt.>>107924927not him but arch really 'just werks' if your setup is fairly simple\standard which it is for most people. when something does breaks which is rare i just paste the error\whatever into an LLM and usually the fix is simple

>>107921579Windows XP SP3 cured my distrohopping. Everything works fine, I need no (((repositories))) to use my computer, there are no trannies arguing over CoC violations, life is good!

>>107925518It will do just fine online. You are by default safe while sitting behind NAT or CGNAT. People who claim otherwise are either tech-illiterate or just arguing in bad faith.
>>107924886Fedora looks nice, might try it out in virtual machine at one point. But I'm gonna stick with Linux Mint for now as it just werks for me.
>>107925154last year i used fedora for some months, then i got stuck with it because i had no internet for some time. i went there to see how is it like to get updoots, then i realised i dont need almost all of them and went back the moment i got internet running again. they are both good and reliable but deb is comfier, got lts, more packages and it doesnt try to babysit me. it feels calm and slower over here, which i appreciate more.>>107925160fedora+kde is pretty good, they are probably shipping the best kde experience right now, not sure about gnome but must be really good too, since it was main for all these years.

>>107924979I mean what did people even do with those sharting updates before LLMs?
>>107921645this.
>>107924954hot take: generally distro hoppers and loonix users are unemployed neets with too much time on their hands.
I've been using Ubuntu for about 5 years, highly customized, most softwares I use make releases for it specifically, don't care about Canonical politics/conspiracies, barely use Snap but I don't care to purge it, and most importantly it werks.I acknowledge Ubuntu is frowned upon around these parts, so if I succumb to the peer pressure, I'll most likely jump to Debian and not Arch. But the idea of starting from scratch sounds dreadful considering I have better things to do with my time.
>>107921579I'm on Arch rn but I'd like to move to Void, I've tried it in the past and liked it. If I had a better cpu I'd do Gentoo.
