CachyOS or Linux Mint Cinnamon for main distro instead of windows 11 until I gain more linux/unix knowledge.
Linux Mint, but don't over think it though, if you can do something in one distro, you can do it in all of them once you know what you're doing.
Debian. You'll learn how to add a user to sudoers and install drivers. Basic Linux stuff. Also, CachyOS is a meme distro. And don't use Cinnamon; hardly anyone is developing or maintaining it. You only have two desktop environment options: KDE or XFCE.
just run VMs

>>107926504Neither. If you're gonna migrate from Windows then install Bazzite if you want to play games.>until I gain more linux/unix knowledgeif you really want to learn Linux then as other anons said, go with vanilla Debian 13 or even vanilla Arch if you're a little tech savvy. You can check youtube videos for tutorials. It's piss easy.I'd say avoid meme distros and forks of forks. Just go straight to the source and tweak them to your hearts content.
>>107926504Mint is so bad in 2026 that it should not be recommended to anyone, seriously. I'd recommend almost any distro to total noobs before Mint.
CachyOS or Nobara, both work fine. I don’t recommend bazzite unless you’re installing it on a media computer. Don’t use gnome, it’s a giant pain in the ass but once you get used to it you’ll never be able to switch to something else. Mint lacks a lot of features but it’s super stable, if you don’t care about stuff like HDR then it works fine.
>>107926504for the beginning:>Mint>BazziteOtherwise the usual distros, but it really doesn't matter:>Arch>Debian>Fedora

>>107926586>krashDE>on fucking debianjust shut the fuck up already. also, granted a first linux experience would be shit on debian, its either ubuntu or fedora for the beginning, once you got more experience you can move on.
>>107926504I settled on cachyos cinnamon as my windows 11 alternative
>>107926504Maybe it's because I had linux experience via Mint a bit in the past, and was dedicatedly pissed at Microsoft + wanting minimal corporate influence but in the past half year I've gone full sail into Arch.I just like the control, and it's ironically far more stable than my experience toying with Ubuntu for half a week before settling into Arch.
