yes, my prior experience is just college internships at so-so companies doing similar embedded stuff. i have a good amount of SWE breadth but had a really hard time getting noticed by good companies, not even amazon would send me an OA after five years of applying. closest i got was being interviewed by TT for backend SWE in the fall, i passed their technical rounds then got cucked by headcount.
the best advice I can honestly give is to use existing connections. my boss at the last internship left and became the VP at this place and that was my in. literally once you have that, there's no curveballs, no leetcode, no gatekeeping jeets. if you're a student that can't get internships, look for undergrad research opportunities, might be unpaid at first but the barrier to entry is low, and you get good experience.

Why does everyone say that getting a job gets easier the more experience you have? I have >10 yoe and job hunting has only gotten more difficult the older I get. I have a total of 2 interviews out of 200 jobs I've applied to in the last 2 months, and I only apply to jobs I know I'm qualified for.

I do, but I also put in a shitload of hard work. It the 2.5 months of serious job searching after unemployment ran out, I put in over 2k applications. Only automation I used was a browser extension to fill in applications for me, so it was a mostly manual process. I also cold emailed a ton of companies and went to industry related assocation events to put them on my resume. I treated job search as a full time unpaid job, putting in almost 40 hours a week.

I-I just got a perfect score on a codesignal proctored (monitored) exam

Advice from someone who's been a neet longer than you (recently trying to fix that):
If you have time then adjust your bedtime by 2 hours every other night. I find it easier to adjust it later than earlier (e.g. go to bed at 10am 10am 12pm 12pm 2pm 2pm), afternoon bedtimes can be rough because you naturally wake up when the sun goes down.
If you don't have time, go full retard and stay awake until it's an acceptable time to sleep, you'll naturally sleep longer so you'll have to do it a few times.
If you have absolutely no time, power through the day with no sleep and hope they chock it up to nerves.
If you're lucky, get sick and sleep way earlier than you normally would because you're exhausted, coincidentally putting you at a normal time.

Fixing being a neet? Somewhat, it's a little tricky due the giant job gap so it's harder to find places who'd consider me. Obviously tech's no longer an option, they don't give a shit about old qualifications. I've been in general construction labour while I look for an apprenticeship and I would've already had one if I wasn't looking at electrical because over here you need qualifications before they'll even consider you for that one (nothing major but still takes a month or two of not working).
I guess all you need to leave the neet lifestyle is the drive, something I thoroughly lacked until recently, everything else is up to employers giving you a chance.

I have no certs and not a lot of IT specific experience, but I spent 10 months as a tech for a school doing Active Directory, physical computer repair, imaging etc. I was actually really good at end user interaction. I had great rapport with the teachers, principal, and senior techs. I got passed over being hired over other temp techs because of certs and degrees.

This has happened to me a couple of times. The reality is that they found someone else. A friend of min works for a recruiting company and how it works is that they hook 7-10 people as candidates (which they are required to do contractually), then they interview by merit, best guys go first, most likely to get it. If the company prefer one of the first guys the rest of them just get ghosted, like you did.
The bright side is that you don't have to do the interview now.
The downside is that you probably weren't one of the people they expected to ever get the job anyway, you were there to meet their contractual quota.
