Another day of waking up at 4am and spending over an hour lying in bed contemplating solutions to a problem that there is no deadline for because im given free reign to build whatever i want (literally "come up with things") and so i make my own work.

Its so tempting to sign in to work early and keep working till past bedtime because its fun. I have a coworker that i think is quite similar. We're both spergs, he probably has ADHD too, and we both see eachother online at incredibly odd hours, and i've seen him make commits at 2am.

I built a proper home server, just to play with, test and modify the docker deployment this coworker designed. We're all given virtual server spaces where we can assign up to 40 cores and 64gb of vram (we can request more) and im positive that most servers that my company owns and uses are virtualized.

I get paid less at my current job than my former job and despite this, I find it so enjoyable that it encroaches my personal time and I'll even spend money on hardware and not tell anybody that I'm not 'lab' testing in a virtual environment.

Does anybody else experience this? How do i set a stop timer? Usually I find a personal project to work on and I do have some started, some close to being finished, and some i want to start; but its hard to pull me from a work project if I feel like i'm really enjoying.

Costco basically thinks that the current "living wage" is not being reflected properly in the vast majority of counties across the country in the US and to improve employee retention, and even save money, its simpler to just pay people what they should be getting paid in order to survive.

So in my state even the most basic job at costco starts at $30/hr, but goes up to like $50.

My conclusion as well. Its looking worse every week somehow with no signs of slowing and shit hasn't even exploded yet, but all the major banks are preparing already. OpenAI is apparently about to eat shit and is nearly ready to collapse on itself, I think that'll trigger a pretty big wave.

the world's most impressionable, gullible redditor? or an ordinary shill astroturfing? the world may never know.

costco figured out that if you pay people more than your competitors for bottom of the barrel menial labor, you win. it is literally free money. a publicly traded company simply did this and it is the whole truth. that is the power of being a heckin wholesome chungus decent frickin human.

The bubble is literally only 7 companies. Every other company is in the toilet and laying people off right now. And no, it's not because AI is replacing our jobs, it's because the faggot-in-chief is so bad at money that he couldn't run a profitable casino, let alone the whole US economy
>>
>>107948096
Obviously the real reason is that playing revolving door with a never ending employee carousel is more costly in the long run.

Either way, people get paid what they should be, nobody really cares about the ultimate reason or whatever idea costco puked out to conceal motive behind their wage increases.

>>107948123
You say its "literally only" 7 companies as if the newest reports don't show that 50% of the US's gdp growth over the last two years is AI alone.

Doesn't matter if its JUST 7 companies.
>>
>>107948136
>You say its "literally only" 7 companies as if the newest reports don't show that 50% of the US's gdp growth over the last two years is AI alone.

And all that so-called "growth" comes from 7 companies. It's a completely top-heavy bubble that is masking the fact that every other company is struggling right now
>>
>>107948150
I think we're saying the same thing friend.
I'm agreeing its a bubble, and I also agree that most companies, big, small or startup are all eating dirt currently whether they are tied to AI or not.

i bet if i looked up the wages a couple places for both companies hiring the same position, it would be costco paying like 2 to 3 dollars more per hour than walmart.
costco has run really effective pr campaigns on reddit

the 30 dollars an hour starting doesnt sound true, and lo and behold, it doesnt appear to be

don't be so easily fooled in life. especially if you saw it on reddit. if you saw it on reddit, theres like literally a 90% chance its false, or misrepresented at best.
>>
>>107948217
I'm not lying. I live in Colorado, Costco starting wages here are around $31 now as of 2026. The one 20 miles from me literally had signs out at its grand opening offering $30 MINIMUM.

I didn't say $30 was the average nation wide, I said that they've openly disagreed with what constitutes a "living wage" and increasing their wages which is factually true.
>>
>>107948136
>>107948217
also come on man, does it sound even remotely realistic they are paying 30 an hour to stock shelves or be a cashier? how gullible would you have to be? maybe in nyc or sf thy possibly pay that bc col but not an entire state. that is totally a shill lying

it just blows my mind people fall for PR teams and marketing like that. yeah dude they do it as a charity they actually pay double market rate for someone doing cashier work BUT theyre just so wholesome they eat the loss. give me a fucking break
>>

you said your state when you mean a specific city in colorado probably. and it doesnt appear to be true either. post an ad for it if you can find one, and then look for the same position in same city walmart is offering and post it. theyre gonna be very similar.

you likely read a headline that was intentionally worded to be misleading about experienced employees making that much and in a particularly expensive col area

costco does not have hourly wage listings on its indeed posts in colorado btw. not a single one.

min wage in denver is 20 an hour already, so its a very expensive place.

the sign thing you are talking about they do everywhere they want labor. they post the absolute max you can make and say "make up to 30 an hour" when it takes experience and seniority to get there. burger king in my area allegedly pays 23 in my area if you believe those signs

i am done getting annoyed about this. i cant believe people fall for this shit. labor like this is priced in, theres no 'decent frickin human being' cheat code that allows you to pay the lowest skilled, most widely available labor significantly more than others without it being reflected in price. believe it or not, money isnt just magic

that is also a reddit factoid that is misrepresented to the point of being a lie. that is the ford vs dodge brothers case and it happened in like the michigan or minnesota state supreme court. corporate law is largely ruled by state law, not federal laws. most corporations are registered in delaware. costco is registered in washington. ford also made a lot of statements during the case that contextualized the ruling. there is legal duty to act in good faith to shareholders but its not the only thing theyre bound to.

another great example of something posted on reddit that is highly misrepresented.

im paraphrasing what i heard in a lecture so if you wanted super accurate details, it would be best to look it up. but literally everything posted on reddit is a child's naive retarded understanding of the world, and generally its going to be politically charged too because its a website designed for advertisers and agencies to shape public opinion.

it's that simple anon
it has been working for me for years
for each bullet point underneath each job or project or educational project, make sure the description includes one or more of the skills that you listed in the first section
DO NOT write an """""objective"""""
reverse "education" and "experience" or just exclude "experience" if you have to
use an LLM if you're too retarded to write bullet points
bonus tip to get past the ATS, put a space between slashes, like this:

This shit is sad to look at, not from a "muh jobs" perspective but from the destruction of the human mind. If anything results in the decay of civilizatiom, its going to be AI slop.

can mods nuke the furry spammer again please?
>>
>>107952064
Hmm. The evolution of our species has always been about liberating ourselves from lower level tasks. If AI handles the stuff we currently have to handle ourselves, it just means we can get much more ambitious.
>>
>>107952022
other industries weren't as stupid as programmers
they have professional associations / regulations that will slow that shit by an order of magnitude
>>
>>107952079
But if it results in people not learning how things work or are made, it is going to have the opposite effect. We will be doomed to stay around our current level of development if people just use AI to do things without any thought on how or why things work. Advancement requires understanding.
>>
>>107952079
AI is very different from previous transformative technologies.
It puts white collar jobs at risk while blue collar is unaffected. The opposite of everything that has come before

IMO, that long list should be way shorter. something like
KNOWLEDGE (or SKILLS, or EXPERIENCE, though this last one should be a separate list of places where you've worked, with dates)
- experience diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing software issues on Linux (Debian/Ubuntu, SUSE, others), Windows (XP, 7, 8, 10, 11, Server), IBM POWER
- experience diagnosing hardware issues on X86 and IBM POWER
- experience compiling, debugging, porting and building software from and to POWER (PPC64LE) and x86 systems
- experience intalling and configuring coreboot BIOS, openwrt and openCMC firmware on IBM POWER and x86 systems
- networking: TCP/IP, HTTP(S), .. ...
the more concise, ambiguous and buzzword-y you can make your CV, the better.

just google "it resume", or maybe copy one of those MS office templates and use that for guidance.

Do NOT go down the path of a network fag. It is the lowest paid route in tech for the amount of knowledge you need to have and the stress involved. It's like a one of those memes of a choice between two paths and the network route is the dark and thorny one no matter what other path you compare it to. 20 years ago it was awesome, get a CCNA and you got a high-paying career and experience. Now it's get CCNP-level knowledge for 3 different vendors, cloud experience, network-security experience, sys admin experience, linux experience, firewall experience, learn to script and automate, and you MIGHT get a job paying 55k a year using none of that knowledge because you're swapping out switches. Add in varied shifts and brutal on-calls getting ordered around by grey-beards with god-tier levels of knowledge and then you MIGHT get to be a network engineer after another 5-10 years of home labbing every waking minute of your life outside of work.

This shit is not worth it. Salaries are going down and US jobs are going down as well. The only benefit is that you will become a true wizard and network fags are the chillest IT people to work with for the most part.

Is there a viable long term career path in getting a job in pcb repair? I see a few entry level jobs in my city that pay just enough to barely live off, but it's stable full time hours with benefits, the competition seems pretty much nonexistent (LinkedIn says 5 people applied for one of these jobs since it was posted 3 months ago), and I'm getting ready to completely give up on trying to get a software dev job at this point. 2 interviews after 250+ applications that ghosted me afterwards seems like a lost cause to even keeping trying anymore.

How the fuck should I be preparing for this? I had one interview that let me use claude code and they were happy with my performance despite the fact that I just sit there and let claude do everything.
Should I just practice with claude? Seems a bit pointless if I'm just going to auto accept everything it suggests, but doing everything manually doesn't seem useful for practice.

My current workplace is swamped with work because of a client delivery deadline looming, and the management is making all of the devs sit in meetings for 1–2 hours each day, just to discuss on how to deliver faster. Meanwhile everyone is using AI, with the management pushing for it ("Use AI unless you can code faster than the AI"), and the results are as shitty as one would expect. You might have an API none of the documented options work and the tests check that the status code that the API returns is somewhere between 200 and 500 (inclusive).

I actually feel bad for the couple of people with functional braincells, who will have to continue dealing with this shit and might even have to sit face-to-face with the client. The rest can suck it. I'm fucking outta there.

Just let it happen, it's the way of the future, low thought tasks getting put to the machines freeing us to do even more complex work.
Kids using AI in modern day already don't bother with most school tasks and even dont see the point of learning to read when AI can do it for them, likewise just let it happen to you to free up brain space for other tasks.
Unlike the kids itll feel awkward since you werent born with it existing already, but that doesnt mean you cant get used to it to not be left behind.

I started my CS degree back in 2017 when people were still spouting "learn to code", by the time I finished my degree I was able to get a job right before the industry's doors closed. I used to think people were exaggerating but then I started seeing my own coworkers getting fired, the future is fucking bleak.

I posted about this a long time ago, as I had just started a new job. This senior guy tried to get me fired because he told HR I had been mean to him (which was a lie), HR and my manager investigated and nothing happened to me, I was so shocked and I was scared of losing my first job.

Long story short, we changed management, my new bosses think that guy is mentally ill, they hate him and he's going to be fired (boss told me in person).

anyone pass interviews for an SDE job in the federal government? I'm wondering what the interviews are going to be like since the job listing didn't even mention a specific language, or responsibilities, they just said you need experience and coding proficiency in one or more OOP languages (like python, c, c#, etc).
Are they going to put me through the full loop torture shit?

Purchasing productivity oriented products won't magically add more hours to a day

I bought a tiny foldable keyboard, because I imagined myself being productive on the train to work. After a week I realized, that I actually need these 40 minutes of sleep.

Sometimes my manager asks me to do the second interview for a candidate applying for a job.
Every time I say yes even though I am half autistic, not social and don't like chit chatting. I have literally no idea what the fuck I am doing in those interviews.
The fact that it is the second interview already proves they have an idea about the candidate in the first interview, so why even ask me.

Bros, how do I stop giving a fuck about work and not let it affect my life? I was given a small warning for a mistake I made last week and I haven't been able to appease the survival mode in my body since then. I couldn't sleep for two days.

I still try to be productive but now when I wake up in the morning I get a horrible feeling in my stomach when about to open the work apps. I didn't know I was so weak.

Any advice?

I've actually had good success with eightfold AI companies and landed an interview with microsoft a few months ago because I know how to fluff my resume to get past AI filters. The reason they're a shit company is because using AI to filter out resumes is fucking evil and this company in particular is jeetware. Every company they partner with has a broken application portal that's filled with bugs.

You should have never explained what you do at work. Should have said you worked at Google.
You can lie and tell them you complained about AI and got moved to work on a different boring project like refactoring tests or making a compiler for a DSL of internal use that's absolutely boring and useless and there's also 5 millions lines of code of it for some reason.
But you will probably fuck up the lie, they will find out, and then it's going to be worse because you went from retarded to malicious.
>>
>>107964929
>what do?
Tell them that the job market is rough and you took what you could get, and that if there are any openings at whatever companys they work for that would be a good match for you, to help you get out of a "toxic" position progressing AI innovation by joining their team

This takes their whole "AI le bad" narrative and switches it to helping you get into a position that they deem to be more ethical. If they can't find you one then it doesn't matter, because you told them you are open to not doing it and you are simply in your position out of necessity
