My t14 gen 2 still hasn't shipped. Not even a label print on the tracker. Fuck this snow. Expected delivery was supposed to be 26th-29th.
>>107968833A delayed shipment is better than not having power.
>>107968894It's not coming from the south, they're in michigan. The ram I ordered the next day already shipped.
I'm really considering this one. i7-13800H + 32gb + 4060 + 1TB nvme + 1440p
>>107969154It seems like a pretty great deal. Just be safe, FB Marketplace can be weird.
>>107969154That's a great deal if true
I was replacing the thermal paste on my T520 and I have no idea what this piece is lol
>>107969692you could watch a teardown on YT and hope it shows upfrom the shape maybe something touchpad / trackpad related? but I have no idea.
>>107969720Maybe. I don't think whatever it is seems all that critical. I thought it might be something to do with the speaker
Brand new (shitty) glob applied though and this old gal is ready to become a server laptop.
>>107969692Maybe it's a Card reader slot cover?
thinkpad t14 gen 3 for $200 a good deal? i5-1235U, 16GB ddr4 w/ open slot, t1tb ssd.
>>107970280Yes, very good as long as it isn't beat to shit and cracked
>>107970296alright that makes senseright now I'm trying to get the p16 gen 6 listed here >>107969154 on fb marketplace but I'm guessing someone else will probably be quicker than me to get a response and buy it and if I can't get that one I'm going to try to get the t14 gen 3 and just remote into my home desktop instead of worrying about a graphics card and save my money
>>107970304You really don't want a graphics card on your laptop desu. Unless you can plug it in and you need to take it to and from work it just hogs up space. I have a huge msi laptop with a 3060 that just isn't good as a laptop and I only take with me on long trips. The intel xe will be fine and you'll still be able to run plenty of games, just buy another 16gb of ddr4 for it to run in dual channel. If you were wanting it for 3d modeling or game design though it won't be great to not have a gpu.
>>107970350honestly I don't even want to play games. As long as I can open the editor for unreal/unity and godot, and do basic 3d modeling in maya/blender/houdini, that's fine by me. >If you were wanting it for 3d modeling or game design though it won't be great to not have a gpu.that's exactly what I need it for. Nothing crazy, I'm not going to set it down and start a 16k render and then get up and come back later, but like basic stuff in the editor etc.
>>107970477Consider a p series with a quatro if you don't get the 4060
>>107970485in that case the best I see is either p14s gen 2 1165G7 48gb for $450 or Gen2 1135G7 2.4Ghz 16GB for $275, both with a T500
>>107970485Oh I forgot they renamed them to things like RTX A2000/4000/5000 and just RTX 2000/3000/4000 etc. But look into those ones, they're the quadro but newer after they dropped that naming convention. They're made for modeling not gaming
>>107970505I see one with a 1185G7 & 16gb at $300 too, which seems pretty good.
>>107970505I misled you with the old name for the workstation gpus
>>107970531oh, yeah I've used those before. my current one is a library p14s gen 5 with an rtx 400 ada, but I have to turn it in every 60 days and replace it for a new one which is a pain, plus there's so much endpoint software on it monitoring me that I can't fuck around with. I like the small 35Watt graphics cards they put in laptops that only really cover low level stuff. I've done some work on planes and long flights or on holiday away from my PC a number of times.
>>107970516>>107970505>T500Also check the cards specs, the a2000 supports dx12 and vulcan and the t500 is only dx12. Memory bandwidth is much higher on the a2000 too
>>107970544Oh gotcha, see what you can min max then for $600 or less especially between ram and the gpus features.
T480 is the best Thinkpad of all time
>>107970641uhhh that's the t420
>>107970692x230
>>107970641I like my T480 more than my T520 or X220T. I honestly find it easier to repair too. Trying to get those old thinkpads apart is like pulling fucking teeth in my opinion.
>>107967139I just remap PrtSc to Menu (and Alt+Menu to PrtSc). It's really the only key I miss from the classic keyboard.>>107970641Too weakly built for that title t bh. Posting this from my T480 with all but one of the front clips broken from opening it just three times. My T14G1 flexes more but doesn't have little bits of plastic dropping out whenever you open it.
Where the fuck are the Panther Lake carbons?
>>107955288Reposting my post about my temps.
>>107968769>>Oldest that won't choke on the modern web>Light use: x60>YouTube, Gmail etc: xx00(s)lol lmaomaybe if you close everything else and use only a single tab
>>107975240YouTube at 720p is perfectly fine on my T500 even with a dozen other tabs open.
when will all Thinkpad look like this
>>107976267AHHHHH WHERE IS THE CLIT I HATE THE ANTICHRIST
>>107976267I don't even like the clit but that's absolutely soulless. and I'm still glad the clit exists because I use the mouse buttons that come with it (with the trackpad though)
>>107968833They got it in the mail, will be here Thursday, God willing. 16 more Gb ram will be here Wednesday, already have the 1tb pcie4.0 nvme. I will be installing fedora xfce, reaper, vlc, photoshop cs6 via wine
got my hands on a gen 1 ethernet adapter
Are there any guides to installing Libreboot/Canoeboot on an X200 Tablet? Every guide I look at only covers the regular X200 and the BIOS chip is in a different location on the tablet. Only mention I've seen of the X200T is from a dead Reddit post and someone saying Leah Rowe knew how to do it but there's no fucking archive.
Might be a long shot does anyone know if is there any mobo of the X270 that accepts both NFC and smart card reader. Or I might be dumb and didn't see it in the mobo, but the HMM also don't specify where is the NFC port in the mobo.
>>107978790It's the same mobo as the X200s.
I failed to get the last 4 used thinkpads I reached out to get and just discovered my university has thinkpads at the surplus auction. praise the lord. I can actually get one.
Should I wait for Panther Lake Thinkpad or buy Lunar Lake if it drops in price?
>>107980472>Buying any stinkpad straight from Lenovo after the RAM price hike
>>107980168Do you have any guide/diagram for th X200s? IIRC the board doesn’t use SOIC8 and the chip is usually on the other side near the RAM slots.
What's the best way to find replacement parts without trying to rip your hair out due to search results being filled with shit quality chinkium? I'm trying to get a replacement battery (if possible) for a T420s along with a keyboard replacement in Japanese. How do I find em /tpg/ ?
>>107981146Buy a brand spanking new unit with the parts you want and take them out.The xx20 are so old there's no one making parts for them but the chinks. For batteries it's even worse since originals are likely to have degraded in all that time.

>>107982125>T540pHonestly feels like they designed it to spite people who don't read the HMM
>>107968769What is the oldest Thinkpad that would still be good for daily browsing like banking and shopping?
>>107987006T60
>TFW using the iGPU in the T14 Gen 2Man. I never thought I'd live to see the day where an intel iGPU was actually decent for any sort of 3D gaming. Or literally anything. Does my heart good.
>nu-shitpads
Do gaming laptops have more travel in their keys than thinkpads now?
>>107987735Perhaps, but then it gets brutally mogged by AMD
I have an X13 Gen2 and I am fucking SICK of Windows 11 and MS general bullshit. I have never owned any Apply products but I am really tempted to buy a Macbook Air. Maybe I would just be satisfied with the same laptop with a different OS?What Linux distribution should I install? I have Debian w/ LXQT on my desktop and I'm happy with it there. All my important files are in a single veracrypt container so it's easy to move between systems/installs.
>>107990800>What Linux distribution should I install? I have Debian w/ LXQT on my desktop and I'm happy with it there. Why change then? Debian w/LXQT would be great on your X13G2. If you want to get adventurous, try a different DE. KDE or Gnome would run fine, assuming you're not stuck with 8gb RAM (both would run, but it'd be tight). Or try a really light, minimal keyboard-centric tiling WM. Go with testing or Sid repos if you want newer packages. Only do Arch if you hate yourself and/or want to relearn a bunch of shit.
