should i buy a 9850x3d, 9070xt desktop when they release the new cpu?
currently using a m2 macbook air
>>
With DDR5, if you have 4 of the same stick with the same timings, do you still run into issues?
>>
>>107983246
I thought about buying one of those but I spent the money on a thermal camera instead, my case does not have a window anyway
>>
>>107983295
its supposed to have a beeping function for when it goes over 9.2A and also allows for software assisted shutdown if it goes over a user defined threshold
>>
>>107983292
Yup

4 sticks are incredibly difficult to get stable.

You almost HAVE to buy them in a full kit of 4 sticks. It's INCREDIBLY difficult to get two 2-stick kits working, or worse, 4 individual sticks working.

At worst you'll have to run them at base JEDEC speeds/timings (read, dogshit slow).
>>
>>107983275
9850x3d is not even 1% faster than 9800x3d yet it costs more.
i'd look into the newer intel prebuilts it wont bottleneck your 9070xt, you get better multicore results, and its cheaper.

Depends on the board, and the sticks too. It's more of an AM5 issue rather than DDR5.
>>
need to get a pcie card to use 2 of the usb-a ports on my 7000d, are they all the same? don't really need one that also adds ports on the back if it can't handle them all (the 2 from the front io and whatever extra it adds) at once
>>
>>107983321
Well, shit. I thought I found a cheap way to have 32GB of RAM by piling together the same model of combo deal RAM, but I guess DDR5 doesn't let you do that. What's the point of 4 slots on a board, then?
>>
>>107983364
speed doesn't matter to someone who just wants MORE CORES.
>>
>>107983364
its there because consumers expect to have 4 slots when choosing to buy boards, not that its useful to the user or anything
on the bright side, all 4 major manufacturers have released their 2 dimm boards in the last 6 months where previously they wouldn't have bothered doing so on an amd platform
>>
>>107983364
It's why many motherboard manufacturers released 2 DIMM models; getting rid of the extra DIMM slots actually makes it easier to get your 2 sticks stable.

Having 2 empty slots adds electronic “reflections” that make the signal noisy. But at the same time, FILLING those 2 empty slots adds even MORE electronic noise, making it even more difficult to get your DIMMs stable.

I'd recommend buying a single 2-stick kit for 99% of people.

You can do it, check that your motherboard doesn't shit the bed and then test if it works well enough for you (it should work at JEDEC at least and it's not the end of the world, especially if you really need the capacity instead of chasing speeeeeed) and if it goes south you can still return it.

Either third GPU with a riser or future-proofing if you will, else it fits within 1200W, at 80% load.
The HX1200i is $300 so you are kind of upsold on this model by them. Other vendors might be cheaper at $200 for 1200W.

Honestly, same. I want to upgrade from my 1080p 60hz IPS that's nearing 10 years old. The msi MAG 271QPX is going for around 400-430 euro right now, which is in the territory where it's still a bit of a splurge but not ridiculously so.
Mostly I'm just worried about text fringing since I play mostly rpg games, and the flickering that I've read about in several reviews. I've only got a 5060ti, so it's not like I'm going to be consistently pushing 240 frames all the time.

Then there's also the fact that you need to take care of it more than an ips to keep the degradation of the panel as slow as possible. And I start to doubt again if I shouldn't just get a 1440p IPS instead.
>>
>>107984500

5070 ti equivalent (gtx 970 -10%) would have been worth $300 in 2015. gold is 5x higher than it was in 2015. Fair value for a 5070 ti is $1500. You're getting a bargain being able to buy it at $900.

That's just how currency debasement goes. If you want $300 mid-upper range gpu's today that would be like them selling it for $60. Absolutely deranged fantasy.
>b-b-but not everything has gone up 500% since 2015...
sure sure, some things are subsidized to prevent the peasantry from starving and looting, such as food. But in the end, money is worth 1/5th what it was and nvidia haven't scalped to the max yet. Buy now or cry later when price discovery does take place and 5070 ti's cost $1500.

It's not about the feasibility; it's about the efficient use of silicon.
Doubling shader cores rarely doubles performance; you can use 5~10% of the silicon for on AI cores to get +200% performance for a fraction of the transistor cost.
That's why literally every major dGPU designer is adding those AI cores.

people were paying for sli most didnt use. people were paying for physx most didnt use. most people have 30% or so of their cpu's silicon devoted to an igpu they simply do not use. PC's are like that. Welcome to the hobby.

you can make gpus faster on the same node btw. nvidia has done it before. you can also just make cheaper gpus with more ai. that also works. make the whole gpu ai for all i care but don't hide behind we can't make it better. while making it cost more. price of silicon goes down usually. not my problem that you used the premium process for gaming cards.

You bought a 9070 XT; you're part of the problem. It doesn't matter if you don't use FSR4.

I'd argue AMD is being more of a profiteer when they don't even make large-sized gaming GPUs anymore.
That's also why AMD tried out memory chiplets with RDNA3, to minimize 5nm production costs compared to selling a high-end, monolithic 5nm gaming GPU.

You clearly care since you can't shut up about it.
You still paid for FSR4, FG, and the other Redstone features, whether you toggle them on or not.

Thanks for subsidizing those development costs, which will trickle down to the PS5 Pro and PS6.
That's what Radeon customers are for, they're paying to test AMD GPU architectures & graphics features for Sony.

I can spitball an answer. ASRock have had issues with QC relating to fastening in the past. As in, bits and pieces of motherboards being improperly set and secured. So a good bet is that, under prolonged use, thermal expansion of improperly fitted components could result in shorts.

3600 16 only with loose secondaries and tertiaries, with very tight ones you have to stay at 18 tcl

Why are you lying on the internet?
>>
>>107986407
why isn't that on pcpartpicker anon
>>
>>107986430
Because they don't do referral links, so PCPartPicker can't profit from linking their parts.
>>
>>107986458
but anon they link to sites like lenovo that also don't use referral links
>>

This retard thinks AMD Radeon's winning when fewer people want to pay over $600 for their cards.
>>
So is sleep mode still buggy on desktops??
>>
>>107986496
yeah idk what he's talking about, it's probably because microcenter is a walk-in store and prices/availability are going to depend entirely on your location. You'd have to provide that to pcpartpicker and pcpartpicker would have to do some sort of communication with microcenter to find your nearest store or whatever and it's just a pita.

Microcenter has great prices on choice items like cpus or gpus because their main goal is to get you to walk into the store so that you look around and buy other stuff too. Think of it like costco hotdogs.

I passed on buying the 40 series and 50 series purely because of the 12VHPWR connector and the lack of Windows 7 support plaguing my mind even though I don't use the latter anyway since 2014.
>>
Ryzen 7000 is good but they never tell you it can run hot as fuck under load even with highly rated coolers like the thermalright twin tower coolers. If you want a quiet PC these CPU are not the way to go.
>>
Microcenter prices are fake, they don't show tax
Chicago is 12% for example so in practice only a 11% difference to the EU average tax
>>
>>107986559
you're thinking about it too hard
they're just trolling, they know microcenter prices are not indicative of real market prices
>>
>>107986573
just lower tjmax

Does /g/ have a favorite/trusted manufacturer when it comes to boards?
>>
>>107986143
if they didn't care about it, anon, they wouldn't require me to give it to them to get the most out of their product
every person like me slows down their progress, since we're denying them free data

They give you the option to opt out of certain telemetry, and you're moving the goalpost.
You still paid for hardware-accelerated upscaling and frame generation when you buy an RX 9000 or an Intel Battlemage GPU; you're funding that R&D.
>>
>>107986573
your own fault for buying a 1st gen ddr5+1st gen new motherboard design.
The common-sense choice was always to wait for 9000 series and get an X3d one.
>>
>>107986613
looks like the cheap-ram price era of gpus are now over.
Waitcucks btfo yet again. You're literally a year too late champ.

Amazon prices don't either, I thought that was the default for burgers.

Yeah that is the default, but for the first time ever I paid literally no tax on the 5080 i ordered directly from MSI last yr. They forgot to calculate it I guess. Considering how unstable their website was at 5000 launch and how i had to run through 3 different payment methods to get something to go through, it's safe to say their storefront was very primitive.

It's up to me to report the sales tax when tax season comes. For legal reasons, I'm obligated to say that I will!!! Don't worry IRS!!!!

>weird website I never saw but has been around since the 90s

>Don't know if I should trust this site
>order the x3d first and wait
>they took too long to put the tracker but the PS gave it to me in a day
>as soon as I received the cpu the gpu jumped $300

I got RAPED.

RTX 50 series was shitty value, the 5070 and 5070 Ti LITERALLY CANNOT BEAT A 4080 OR 4080 SUPER LOL. Everyone forgot that. And they all have the housefire connector anyway.

The eternal issue with Valve is that they're not exactly the best at... anything.
>>107986810
Real answer: Trowel it so there's an even spread across the face of the CPU. The old "dab and smoosh" method was always asinine.

>>
>>107986922
thermalright paste is good quality tho, unlike coolermaster
if you ever need to remove the cpu cooler remember this: you have to twist the cooler while the cpu is in the socket and then pull up, because with viscous paste if you just pull up the cpu will come out with the cooler, happened to me
