Well /g/, I am 1 for 4 on the CRT monitors I have Inherited from my uncle.
The behemoth on the far right and my current heartbreak is a Cyber Vision C112. It's a 19" monitor and weighs about 60 pounds. Whenever I plug it into a VGA source, it makes a good awful sound for about 3 seconds and then completely cuts itself from power (at least visually with the front indicator light). Also the front power and menu buttons are non functional.
The second from the right is an Optim 17". It will get a picture for a second then disconnect the next and then reconnect again. It will repeat this as long as it's hooked up to a source.
To the left is a Gateway 15". This one actually works and came in it's original box, however I think my late grandmother must have used the crap out of it because this thing barely lights up. It's unusable during the daytime, well past its expected life span. The cool thing about this one though is that it was in its original box and it actually had its shipping sticker attached to it. It got delivered in February 2000 to my grandmother's house.
And the last one to the far left is a Dell 15''. This is the only one that actually fully works and has a good picture on it. It's 1024x768, so not a very high resolution one. But it works and I got it for free, so I think I'll use it for playing around with legacy operating systems and games.
Has anyone else worked on old CRTs in attempt to fix them yourself or know of good resources? I wouldn't know what I'm doing desu, but I figured if they're already broke it'd be cool just to look inside them. It's kind of heartbreaking especially with the bigger two.
I'm also getting a lot more stuff from my uncle at some point soon, including his old gaming PC. It's kind of weird how much you learn about someone after they die. I was never close with him, but he seemed like an interesting guy. Hell, he probably posted on here for all I know. RIP
