One time my phone broke and I didn't replace it for about 6 months. It was nice. When I went out, I was actually out of contact entirely. If people wanted to reach me they could send an email or something, and I'd get to it whenever I was around my computer and felt like checking it. Reminded me of the good old days, before cell phones were ubiquitous and there were still pay phones and shit and if you wanted to meet up with people you made plans in advance and people were social and sociable because they weren't distracted by stupid filter bubbles and smartphones.

i've spent most of the past 10+ years without a phone, just used voip. now i have a phone because banks and whatnot wont let you open an account with a voip number, so i only use the phone for that except for calling like 1 person only ever. literally just don't give out your number and change your number if you did

Me too. It rang. I wasn't in the mood. Hammer stopped it.
The next decade+ was significantly less stressfull, and I can count the number of times I was inconvenienced on a single hand with no danger of running out of fingers.

I recentish learned I have a daughter, so felt it responsible to ensure ease of contact. Got me some phone. Coulda gone dumbphone, but thought if I get a 'tardphone there might be something for me in there too.
The shit they have allowed to become 'normal' truly boggles.

A common thing is to rape contact lists for fresh victims. It's also common for idiots to not give a fuck about what they are installing, or questioning why it needs access to the contacts. But hey, they just got three shiny hats for a game character for allowing it, so it's all good...
