Are these things any good yet? I looked at them about 15 years ago, but I was not impressed.
>>
yes. tech at its best
had one for over 5 years and it still makes me happy

roborocks flagship this year climbs stairs and last years has a robotic arm that can pick socks up and put them away
both are pretty shit
the vast majority of new robot vacuum tech focuses on mopping. the dock washes and dries mop pads, on some models it swaps and installs spares.
some mops have a roller
2027 they're working robots that blast steam while they mop. the tech is still shit atm
as far as vacuuming they all figured that out 3 years ago
>>
Best buy I did last year.. I hardly ever use my vacuum cleaner anymore. It helps that I live in an apartment with no stairs I guess.
It hates glass doors and mirrors, and it seems to think my terrace is part or it's territory.
>>
>>108008539
they're pretty sweet. they don’t do a perfect job but who cares when you can vacuum 4 times as often for none of the effort.
mine has also forced me to be much better about picking up my shit cuz it WILL get itself stuck on a random tshirt or charging cable i’ve left on the floor.

I bought the irobot j7+. The mop function stopped working after a year. Wife doesn't see the point in having just the vacuum part run, she wants the tile floors mopped too. Says she might as well do it all herself it is not going to do both. Tried some debugging. The thing seems to be a black box, no pun intended. 800 dollar bummer.
>>
Aren't there privacy concerns?
>>
>>108009411
thats exactly why irobot went bankrupt and out of business
they were barely figuring out mopping while bugman robots add 10 new features every 3 months
amerilards couldn't compete
>>
>>108009419
>Aren't there privacy concerns?
Yeah, I refuse to install mine on my phone (iphone) so I have a cheap android tablet at home that I use for shit like this.

They seem pretty good if you have a single story home without too many weird things in it. I kind of want to get one, but trying to find one I can modify is annoying, and they’re quite expensive. The custom firmware is more akin to gaslighting the robot, it just runs on top of the existing software and redirects all the network requests to a server hosted on the bot itself. It’s called Valetudo
>>
>>108009536
Whatever you have the app on, my understanding is that they've got all sorts of sensors in the robot itself mapping your house and doing God knows what with it
>>
>>108009573
are you incapable of blacklisting the robots servers in your router settings?
like why would this be an issue
do you not control your own network?
>>
>>108009597
I don't have one, so I assumed that they simply don't work if you stop them from phoning home
>>
no, but now they also map your house, track inhabitants, scan for wireless devices, take videos of you, and send all of this to government agencies and israel
>>
>>108009411
>has wife
>that doesn't clean
What is the point of having the wife then?
>>
>>108009430
>>108009411
It works okay but they charge so fucking much for the auto empty thing. And the device itself.
>>
>>108008578
>both are pretty shit
how exactly is it shit? Lol the robot arm is sick and then the stairs one looks amazing
>>
>>108008539
They're kind of pricey for what they actually do.
>>

I have the irobot i9. It doesn't have the mop function and I don't think having a mop function even really adds anything. If you wanted one you should have waited and spent the money on just the vacuum part because now proper functioning vacuums will have good mop features.

I've been waiting for a while because I don't see the fucking point in cleaning the mops everytime its used or refilling and emptying the dirty water. Now they have vacuums that will self-clean the mop pads and they'll hook up to existing drainage lines so you'll never have to change water/refill. Only thing to really change is the cleaning agent it uses.

>Wife doesn't see the point in having just the vacuum part run,
your wife is a retard. Unless you live in some tiny ass apartment I guess but having the vacuum run every day keeps the floor clean. Once a month steam mopping is good enough.
>>
>>108008539
They're complete shit. Are you a fucking disabled person? Sweep the floor it takes 5 minutes, jesus christ.
>>
>>108010144
Sweeping carpet isn't particularly effective.
>>
>>108009430
they went bankrupt because they never evolved past purely camera vision. They also had many fucking bullshit problems with flag ship vacs. The one I have it can't even reconnect to the wifi after power outage, it sometimes can't dock even when its in the dock, and sometimes it can't even find the fucking dock. It's annoying af. Roborock and even my cheaper dreame is 10000% better and that thing cost me $100.
>>
>>108010144
This is a slave mind.
>>
>>108010151
These don't work on carpet you fucking dumbass.
>>
>>108010169
yes in fact they.
>>
>>108010173
No, they in fact do not. Fucking moron.
>>
>>108010181
they do.
>>
>>108010185
Fucking low ass iq dipshit
>>
>>108010188
wrong.

sex and caretaker when ill
>>
>>108008539
Had one for a few month. It's nice because it washes my floor daily and I can really the difference, the roller mop is great compared to simple pads. The big downside is that you have to choose between letting a chinese device with internet access and camera free so that it can do everything right, how have it gimped but offline.
>>
>>108008539
What happens to these things once the battery eventually dies? I have a Tineco stick vacuum and the battery is nearing the end of its life. Tineco no longer sells replacement batteries for this model which sucks and I don't want to buy those dodgy chink aftermarket batteries.
