If the Gabe Cube comes out and is more than the $499 Mac Mini it's DOA.
With RAM prices it might never actually come out so you don't even need to worry.
Can it run Windows? Otherwise DOA.
>>108010388there won't be a $499 Mac Mini when it gets out
>>108010411Supposedly RAM pricing is levelling off and starting to dip after the initial panic stage. Still much more expensive but becoming less silly.
>>108010388I'd have said 600-650 personally. One rumour I keep seeing is Valve doing a bundle of the Machine & Frame for $1200
im gonna buy one
>>108010388Isn't the mac mini $600? Either way this device is better for what it's trying to do.The Steam Machine will be somewhere in the $650-$700 range before tax and 680€-740€ in EU. It would still be good at that price point considering the current RAM prices.Once Chinese memory factories kick in the RAM prices should stabilize and even fall down. So I expect it to be priced at $550-$600 after a couple of years.
>>108010388>than the $499 Mac MiniWho the fuck cares about Mac Mini? Shit is decades behind Linux in gaming.Terraria recently released new update forcing game to Metal and bunch of your shitty computers can't even run it since Apple drivers are shit.

>>108010388> If the Gabe Cube comes out and caters to the general public and not my highly subjective views and needs, it's DOA> It's DEAD, you hear me. NOBODY will have fun with it, I wills it!!1Lunatics everywhere
>>108010388No one has money it's a bad time for a consumer product launch it will be like the steam deck or VR if it launches at 500.
The people making money right now are older people with 401Ks. The under 40 crowd are struggling with rent and debt and tariffs will push the price on this. It is quite expessive to build this domestically in the USA and quite expensive to import it there. The combination means it's a bad time for a home entertainment consumer durable. IT only makes sense if it's effectively a beta with low volume.
>>108010969Windows executable translation support for MacOS is about as good as on Linux. It just doesn't make sense as an AiO if it doesn't beat the Mac Mini either in price or in performance. And since the Steam Machine will use yesteryears technology it seems like it will have to be the former over the latter.
>>108010476>Supposedly RAM pricing is levelling off and starting to dip after the initial panic stage.lollmao
>>108010968>on a discount
>>108011187so what? doesnt change the value proposition
>>108010388The ram + vram is already more expensive than that.
>>108010388I just want a slightly more powerful steam deck (for instance elden ring 60fps, 4k, decent quality) I can plug to my tv. I'm willing to pay 1k for that. if the performance isn't quite there, I'll reconsider, but I'll wait for the reviews
>>108010804>Isn't the mac mini $600?You can't game on it so what's even the use case? Running office?
Oh no, the mini thatbis already outperformed and cheaper
>>108010476>the dipping in question
>>108010388>$499 Mac Miniyou mean the shitass computer with horrible i/o because nvme drives are throttled on the base model and have a propietary garbage board mount so you get like 1700MBps speeds at best? no thanks, i want something better in 2026.
