So a friend of mine got an asus 1440P monitor and i've been wondering if i should get one too (mostly fomo i guess) i'm gaming at 1080P ultrawide and i didnt find it bad till he got the new monitor. i could buy the 1440P monitor this year or save some money and switch from a 3060 12GB to whatever newer GPU i could get. i'm sorry about this stupid question but i'm new to hardware and dunno what to to do...
>>108011465you buy a new monitor, you're almost certainly gonna have to buy a new gpu anyway since you won't be able to drive higher resolutions as reliably. go with a new card first though, while you can still afford them and are in stock.
>>108011481thing is i can only afford a new gpu by next year, since i'm broke and my wage wont go up anytime soon. is it still worth saving for a TI card and ditch the 3060 or should i just get the 1440P monitor this year?
>>108011655you should be able to play in 1440 on your 1080 monitor, see how your card handles it and decide
>>108012348it ok/good but needs dlss performance and sometimes framegen in games like stalker 2
bump/help
>>1080114651440P is like 2019. Still do you like your current monitor?
>>108011465Unless you have a particularly high Hz 1080p display you need extra oomph to match, it's unlikely you need more performance GPU-wise. Even if you did buy a GPU now...you're still at 1080p, so all you'd be doing is bumping up graphics options with less of a noticeable bump in overall fidelity. Frankly, if you can't upgrade both your monitor and GPU, you're kind of wasting the upgrade in my opinion. It's gonna be bottlenecked one way or the other. I also think it sounds like you're letting fomo (from seeing your pal's new display) affect your desires here. I'd just save money to be honest.
I've been trying to buy a new monitor for 6 months, the market is hell, I do not advise anyone try to buy a new monitor. I hate the monitor market. I will say switching from a 3060 12GB, unless you are planning to go at minimum 9070 XT (prices currently $730 USD and rising) or 5070 TI (prices currently $1000 and rising) it probably won't be worth it. 1080p ultrawide sounds crazy though
>>108011465Buy a used 6800 XT or non XT, both have excellent value, 16GB vram. Install Linux and enjoy the mesa driver (20 years of support). Play around with Linux, de-botnet your life, get your games for free, save money, sell your 3060 and buy a 27" 1440p IPS/OLED later on.
>>10801146527 inch 1440p 240hz ips monitor are like 200 bux. Get view-sonic or Acer. Get that, for GPU, used high-end, and or nvidia cards. Or, get a 9070 or 9070xt. Get GPU first. Monitors will stay cheap. You'll be able to even find plenty used.
>>108011465Enjoy buying a RTX 5080 for the cost of a MacBook M5 Pro now lol.Personally i wont even go into pc gayming instead get a decent job with that macbook instead.
