Why don't you own a mobile device running GNU/Linux?
>>

>>

How much did that sexy little laptop cost you? post an Amazon link to a new one
>>
>>108014966
I have the original GPD MicroPC running Linux alongside my GPD MicroPC 2, GPD Pocket 4, GPD Win Max 2 and GPD Duo but the last one isn't really mobile since it's 13" and weighs like 5lb.
>>
>>108015081
Who tf buys on Amazon in 2026?
>>
My Win Mini runs Windows 11...hence the fucking name.
>>
I wanted to get something like this. Preferably something small with a regular size keyboard. My thinking is that I could just program small c and python scripts on the couch or plane. I couldn't find anything cheap and small. The smallest I seen used in my area were those old macbook airs that are 13 inch. But I'm sure those suck for Linux drivers probably? So I'm still looking. Those chrome books look nice, but they seem expensive for what the specs they are.

>Why don't you own a mobile device running GNU/Linux?
I have never owned a laptop and I never will. I have absolutely zero use for one when I have two proper desktops at home.
>>
>>108015110
>Who tf buys on Amazon in 2026?
When there is a lack of options, otherwise I would always pick like this:
locally nearby > with the country > countries nearby > within EU > AliExpress > Amazon (European domain version)
>>
I have an android phone
>>
>>108014966
>Why don't you own a mobile device running GNU/Linux?
Because I have an Android/Linux device. And Windows still works on my machine so no need for gnu.
>>
I have a shitty chromebook running mint xfce. It freezes when I open too many browser tabs because it only has 4GB of ram and the swap file is on a flash drive
>>
>>108014966
I've a Linux laptop and Windows desktop. Not making the full switch to Linux yet until lord Gaben popularizes it more and it gets some software support for a change.
>>
>>108015528
Not free, not GNU!
>>
>>108014966
>WhY noT rUn GNU/Plebux anon??
Tranny redhat spyware. Only BSD
>>
>>108014966
I run Arch on my original GPD Micro
>>
>>108015581
Enable zswap. Turns your 4GB RAM into 7GB before it even touches disk swap.
>>
way too expensive. I just carry a BOOK, I have a computer at HOME like a normal person in 1990.
>>
im having more fun with the pocket 386

idk that seems almost too small
i wanna get pic but im kinda too broke right now and have other shit i need. i think 10 inch would be the perfect laptop size that is semi-pocketable while still having a good keyboard size
>>

GPD's only flaw is QC, I wouldn't' buy them from anywhere else than Amazon, at least you don't have to worry about warranty.

I'm still burned by my god pocket 1 and it's shitty keyboard.
I would love another one of their devices but don't trust their QC.
Steamdeck is scratching my UMPC itch atm.

>>
>>108018852
Well, EU mandatory warranty is 2 years and if you get it from Amazon or a reputable EU reseller they will deal with the warranty themselves if problems arise or you get a defective unit.

>>
>>108014966
What model is this?
>>
>>108020237
GPD MicroPC 2 with Intel N300 CPU
>>
>>108014966
Those tiny laptop keyboards are fucking useless and the screen's too small for actual work if you're not 15 with perfect vision. I have a Steam Dick. It's okay.
>>
>>108014966
Grabbed the original micropc when it was around $300 on aliexpress
Kino little device and I still use it
>>
>>108014966
But I do
>>
>>108020256
How long does the battery last?
>>
>>108020323
4-7h depending on what you do.
1.5-2h if 3D gaming.
I have it plugged to a pocket battery bank so I don't care.

Linux works longer than Windows 11 btw.
>>
>>108020340
Nice, thanks for the info., anon.

I might brought one after all. Always a fan of these little devices running Linux (I owned the original Eee PC).
>>
>>108020350
MicroPC2 is not for gaming. No gamepad built in.
It's a device to "have any computer with real USB/HDMI ports when on the go".
Still fits in my pocket. I was afraid since it's 7 inch but I'm a big guy and it worked.
>>
>>108014966
i want to get a tablet with lenovo magnetic keyboard. and install gentoo on it. these GPD things run intel and must run like miniature furnaces. arm-powered devices are fascinating, on the other hand. if you put an actual OS on them instead of android normiecattle garbage.

As an adult, I really struggle to find an use case. At work, I got work laptop and 3 phones. During commute, I just sleep, or enjoy not having a screen in front of me.
I just watch the grass. Shopping or chores are no longer me waiting idly. And at home I got my main computer. During work travel, I got phone, and desu I'd rather go out sightseeing rather than sit in a hotel playing wahoos.

So where do you use it, op?
>>
i do doe. i use mint on my laptop to *sniff* all the traffic going to my windows 11 desktop.
i dont use MAS anymore btw. totally unrelated haha.
>>
>>108014966

>>

>>

>>

You can SSH to the server when on the go and type commands faster.
>>
>>108014966

>>
>>108022672
If you can't operate it while it's in air, does it really count as mobile?
>>
>>108014966
Has any small laptop or UMPC ever had better aesthetics than the old Sony VAIOs?
Those things were sexy af 2bh.

Though in reality something like a Macbook Air, or the upcoming Macbook (or the old little Macbook) fits the niche perfectly. Something like 10-12", high resolution screen, useable keyboard, quiet and long battery life while still being reasonably powerful. What more could you want?
If you need a single-hand held device, hard to beat a phone. Aren't going to be typing properly on a proper keyboard with one hand anyway.

Also it you're seating at a table or other surface there's always the option of a tablet with a bluetooth keyboard. Used to shitpost on my Old HP Touchpad with the wireless charging stand and bt keyboard. Man, WebOS was so far ahead of its time... Very comfy.

Fujitsu was also pretty good

Hm... sounds like even more of my thing.

What Linux distro are you using it with? Also, do you have any issue with power bank?

I already have a 14" thinkpad for that. I see no point to anything smaller, the screen is already too small for comfortable usage. My 17.3" laptop is much better for extended usage.

Get a Baseus 65W powerbank with USB-C PD and it will work with any usb-c laptop.
>>
>>108014966
I really want to get this. now that it has an AMD processor it is kino. anything with AMD is kino, these small form factors are great.
I read the touch screen is like a phone, I would get this if I could draw on it with a stylus precisely
>>
>>108023453
It's a pain in the butt to set the touchscreen rotation on Linux btw.

My father recently found his 2017 (?) Acer S1003 he disposed of when he bought a real laptop, he called me over and wanted me to have it. I was thinking of using it as an e-reader. The S1003 is a piece of garbage.
>x64 CPU, but has UEFI 32, so you can flash only x86 ISOs (I guess there's some workaround I never tried)
>Windows 10 destroys its 2GB of RAM, it is so slow that even reading PDFs can be a challange
>Driver support is nearly non-existent, every distro has some kind of problem (WiFi, touch, etc.)
I have had it turned off for a few weeks and have been searching for something in my free time, but I fear its destiny will be rotting in my drawer.

>Why don't you own a mobile device
Because I never leave my apartment. Haven't stepped foot outside this building since Covid (not because of the virus but because same/next day delivery exploded in popularity and became standard here then). The fuck is a laptop gonna do for me that my desktops don't?
>>
>>108023513
Some distros (like Fedora) come with support for 32-bit UEFI on 64-bit CPU. It should just werk.
