>Be me
>Haven't had internet in almost 8 months because my mom for some reason stopped paying the internet and is in 800$ Debt to them
>I only have access to the web through my phone's celluar data
>The data is shitty, as you'd expect
>Say "Fuck it" and I buy a new internet plan I will pay for instead of my mom, let's call it "Localnet", that's not the company I have, but I want anonomity
>I get on the phone with them for a plan
>I get automated bs instead of a worker, I ask for one and I eventually get one
>I give them the gist of everything, I don't tell them about my mom for obvious reasons
>No modem arrives
>Turns out I accidentally told them I have one already (I technically do but it obviously won't work as it's the one that belongs to my mom 800$ indebted to them)
>I call them again after a few days, I deal with automated bs again and I explain everything
>Wait a week
>Modem not arrived
>I call again, the automated stuff is worse than before and I was on the phone for over an hour to get in contact with a real human being
>I finally get a person
>"You already have one"
>???
>"No I don't lmao".mp3
>I finally get it ordered
>They forgot my damn unit number and UPS got confused
>I give UPS my unit number
>I finally get it today
>Open
>Happy me, sister, and mum.png
>Set it up, hoping it's worth the 60$ a month I'll have to pay
>Slow and shitty, won't even load on my mother's Roku TV

Why are internet providers like this. I guess I should be grateful I even have internet but still.

I'll psy your mom's bills if she's willing to help me out.

>>>Haven't had internet in almost 8 months because my mom for some reason stopped paying the internet
lol I do that sometimes
but with other bills
then I phone them up and seethe and complain and cry and threaten to go to journalists and they give me ridiculously low payment plans for struggling customers

but the internet companies don't give a shit when it comes to missed payments and will cut you off after like 2 or 3 missed so I just pay the bill all at once and then when the contract runs out phone up and bitch and karen until they give a lower rate and faster speeds

I believe these companies are screwing over most people and the bills aren't anywhere near as much as they charge

Yes. Your ISP sucks.
>>
>>108017789
>slow and shitty
Turn wifi off, connect one computer with an ethernet cable, and ensure negligible background OS traffic. What are your speedtest results?
How does this compare with the speed you were promised?
>>
>>108018604 (Me)
I'm asking because I've found a lot of people say
>my internet is slow and shitty
when what they mean is
>I've placed my ISP-provided modem+router+switch+ap CPE thingy in my basement underneath a pile of scrap metal and I'm trying to connect to it from a mile away through five thick stone walls, why is my TV's youtube app buffering
>>
>>108017947
american things, the third world simply rolled fiber through this decade since they didn't had much copper before that, yurop never got into the isp municipal monopolies thing
or maybe aussie things, they're cunts over there too
>>
>>108018354
They probably cut you off fast so they can bill you a "reconnection" fee.
>>
>>108017789
Assuming you're a poorfag and live in an apartment complex, why didn't you just crack the neighbor's WPA2 key (assuming they have the default provider password set that can be cracked with a wordlist)?

Instead of having to pay $60/month, you would've just had to have bought a $40 wifi dongle that supports monitor mode.

If you can suffice with the shitty service you have now, could you not have just settled with going to a library or cafe?
>>
>>108017789
Imagine not having fibre in 2026 lmao
>>
>>108017789
Have you tried LAN-Cables?
>>
>>108017789
your account address and your mom's account address is the same so they're throttling you. just pay up.

I know this feeling well internet bro
>live in hoarder house
>divorced parents
>dad dies
>2009 still no internet
>use ipod touch for all internet
>mom takes us to work to type out and print our essays
>internet hookup day gets booked finally in like 2010
>somehow the service worker didn't give a fuck about the 1.5 meter wall of clothes that form paths throughout the house

Because we see shit like that once a week.
>>108017789
Interesting how they haven't figured out yet that you owe them that much
If I noticed something like that I would lock your line immediately lol
>>

It's not as unusual as you think

>If I noticed something like that I would lock your line immediately lol
not cool bro. That modem BOM cost $10 and they mark it up 80x.
>>
>>108017789
>move cities and have no internet in my new apartment
>take out my phone, google my street and internet offers
>find the cheapest popular one
>go to their website
>choose the €38/month 250/250 fiber package with included 5G wifi router and a LenovoTab, 10,1 for some reason
>press ok
>2-3 minutes later, get text
>"your internet is now activated"
>already have a router so connect it
>done

Been like that no matter where I've lived in this country. Takes a few minutes at most.
>>
>>108021817
Things are a little different in Canada. You can expect 3-10 days without internet at your new home
>>
>>108021725
It costs us like 25 bucks a month just to rent the fiber from the actual owner. Add to it the cost of the backbone, the costs of the uplink, management costs, power etc and you hopefully realize that there's a reason why internet access costs as much as it does
>>
>>108017789

>>
>>108017789
>>108020909
if you have an address like that you typically are able to get poorfag internet for free
>>
>>108023439
elaborate. My mom has to pay despite being a hoarder

>>108022436
I thought we were talking about the modem only. Yeah, internet is pricey

>>108021244
>>108021118
Do the hoarder homes you see have children?
>>
>>108023624
>Do the hoarder homes you see have children?
Sometimes, sure. But I mostly go to houses where the owner doesn't want to set up their new ONT and router, which is mostly old people and people who are rich enough to not care about that extra cost.
