Did the era of Dreamcast sort of mark a peak in gaming technology?

>Support for Sega's own fast/streamlined/documented SDK or Windows CE (to make porting games from the PC easier)
>Hitachi SH4 chips
>480p with the DC's PowerVR GPU
>Rarely-used volumetric per-pixel shadows and volumetric fog features
>Order Independent Transparency and is the only system to date that came with OIT at the hardware level
>16MB of RAM
>By replacing the Dreamcast's two 8MB SDRAM chips with larger SDRAM chips, modifying the pin arrangement, and modifying the BIOS, it is possible to install 32MB
>Native VGA out support
>independent filesharing between memory cards without the console needing to be present
>a large (again, for the time) optical disc format that stored up to 1GB of data
>Plans to download Dreamcast games directly to the 40GB HDD, a feature that Xbox 360 realized
>Had the highest quality video output of the generation, while PS2 was known for having the lowest quality and looking the blurriest overall
>Jet Set Radio, Sonic Adventure, Shenmue, Soul Calibur, Jet Set Radio, Skies of Arcadia, Resident Evil Code Veronica, Dead or Alive 2 were technically impressive
>Modern game controller is heavily inspired by Dreamcast controller
>Doom 64 port has the all of the player's weapons have real-time normal mapping (DOT3 bump mapping, with tangent-space light direction vectors and three-dimensional normal texture maps, that normal mapping) that interacts with my custom dynamic lighting system (up to 16 simultaneous point sources, geometry tessellation for improved quality)

Bottlenecked by its small memory capacity. Sega put all their eggs against a machine that would mog the PS1 but got mogged by the PS2 a year later kek

almost like gamers want games and don't give a shit about hardware specs

What was this style of graphic design called again? IIRC it originated in some magazine in the early 90s or at least was first compiled and described there.

Ask me how I know you weren't alive in 1999. Everyone had a Dreamcast and everyone that didn't wanted one. I never saw a console sell so fast in my life.
>>
uhh maybe it marked a peak of BLOAT in a console
it just needs to play GAMES nigga

Ha no. Only one person in my grade had one and we all laughed at him. He loved shenmue which to me looked like fag shit. Oh yeah let me work as a forklift driver! Boring fag ass game. He went on and on about the memory card which was stupid. Play games on it or something? Graphics were OK. Only good thing was when people realized you could pirate the whole library and burn disc's and play them that way. Cool way to enjoy all of the 4? Games worth playing.

Fun fact: The last officially licensed game for the Sega Dreamcast was released in 2007 in Japan.

At the time, it was amazing! Dreamcast, the GameCube, and the OG Xbox. PlayStation still sucked until the PS3.

Sega could come back.

You now remember people giving lots of shits about "bits" and early speculation was that Dreamcast would be "128-bit" because that was the next step up from Nintendo 64 (a 64-bit console)...

>every normalfag drooling over NFL 2k didn't exist
Yeah like I said. Dumb faggot that wasn't alive in 1999

>>108020780
It was marketed as being 128-bits.

>Doom 64 port has

I don't care what it has, it can't even get the intro right, and that's the most beautiful part of the game.
