I interviewed for two jobs at the same company recently. First one went poorly (I have hardly any experience in that sub-field). I got rejected from that one, which I expected. Should I get a masters degree in CS? I am an engineer, I know how to code but not employed in that capacity at all. I feel as if, despite what has happened there is and will be for the forseeable future, a higher salary cap for tech workers than other people. I work in defense and the salary of some truly stupid people compared to my classmates (ChemE) tends to baffle me. So, I imagine a smart and diligent worker could do well. Albeit it seems a lot more random and unpredictable. I did take and enjoy a lot of CS courses in undergrad, which is not a huge indicator but probably at least a little important.

Recently he messaged me saying they were looking for a new developer to pick up my old tasks so I figure fuck it, I've been searching for a new job since May of last year. The job interview went fine, my job coach came along and we had a good chat. I already knew the details of what they do and what they're up to now (an old colleague keeps me up to date on Discord here and there) and obviously I can do what they're asking for and more now cause I've been busy picking up skills since. Then we had our contract negotiation and he leads in with "I know we severely underpaid you back in the day, we realize that now so we're making you a good offer: 450 euro above minimum wage, gross, for a full work week, but you'll only be working 4 days in the week". I do some quick calculations in my head and realize I'd come out to less than minimum wage gross. After he and my job coach were done chatting I gently brought up I was hoping for more and he immediately got defensive, saying "this is it, I can't offer more and I can't promise it'll get any higher in the future", "it's much more than what we paid you before and we gave you nice benefits like paying your phone bill", "if you're gonna to be like this then you should just apply to a different job and we can just hire freelancers again to do your work" and so on. It was really strange, I've never seen an interviewer get offended like that before. I thought it was called a contract negotiation because we were supposed to negotiate.

I noticed my dumb friends were very happy and spontaneous. 10 years ago I resolved to live like a total idiot, but tempered with my actual intelligence.
