I remember getting into /sdg/ way back in 2023 when AI first blew up and thinking it was the coolest thing ever. However, it was (and still kinda is) slow, finicky, and hard to get images in certain styles or subjects unless the model and stuff are trained specifically to do that.Is there any reason why I would use SD in 2026 versus asking one of the big name chatbots to generate an image for me? I typically use ChatGPT or Gemini to generate images now, and I've gotten very good at it through LLM prompting. I'm significantly better at getting high quality images using LLMs than I ever could with SD.I'm guessing one main reason is content moderation, but unless you're literally generating porn I think it's pretty easy to get around the model's built in filters. I've gotten both ChatGPT and Gemini to generate pretty crazy images, even ones depicting violence, bigotry, or "certain symbols". They'll do pretty much anything besides depict literal nudity, you just have to know what to say.I know it costs money, but I really think Nano Banana is an elite image generation model. I guess I just don't see a point in using special models, loras, in-painting, and all these other things to make images when I can achieve a better product using plain english and good prompting with a chatbot. I'm actually pretty proud of what I can get these LLMs to generate, pushing the envelope, maybe I'll make a guide one day.
