I'm a no degree hire from like 2015, I decided I might as well go back and get my degree and am a 32yo boomer and see what the kids are upto.

I've had group projects with a whole lot of these kids , and its incredible how comfortable they are with vibe coding and genuinely saying "so this is what I came up with"

Like wtf? Bitch u didn't come up with anything. I'll use AI as well from time to time for dev ops or confguration things - but I am under no delusions that I did any heavy lifting here. We are literally in our final project right now and I've assigned many many user stories to my teammates, thinking its enough to keep them busy for the two weeks.

They're getting it "done" in literally one day. There is zero chance any of them are that good or have those kind of problem solving skills - this is a B tier local school at best , I'm dreading the fact I'm going to be reviewing AI slop or I can't have a discussion on "why" because they don't really understand what they generated. Or why standards have to be enforced.

And then they have the fucking nerve to whine and complain as to why they aren't getting immediate merges or why im "too slow" when reviewing their code.

Am I the fossil here though? Is this just how future of programmers is gonna look and I need to embrace the AI speed?

I feel joy in dealing with memory leaks, fixing compilers, fixing logic errors, improving my DSA and trying to make things resource efficient across threads , these kids give zero fucks about any of this.

Chads
If you can build stuff with less mental overhead thst's a good thing.

>less mental overhead
implying that they have the mental headroom for that to even matter
>>
>>108027972
the "stuff" you build being CRUD app clone #900000 and patting yourself on the back for it

retarded faggot

What on earth are you doing back at Uni if you already have a decade of industry experience?

I want to do research/engineering via gunning for some more advanced R & D positions one day that require these degrees, just setting myself up for the long term for an eventual masters, Phd purely for the love of the game.

Tard epidemic is real. Ayyy Eye is creating supertards, Hopefully the competency crisis comes calling and filters them so we can retvrn to performant based metrics in computing.

In the mean time these kids are just wasting their own and everyone else's time. The hardest part is what you've already described: midwits convincing themselves voob cooding is anything but clown show.

This timeline uncorrected leads to the falling apart of civilization lmao. Without computing being reliable we can't achieve anything of note

As long as it doesn't tank your grades does it actually matter? Youre not being paid to do code reviews anymore
