I'm gonna stop playing games that need a dGPU. If it doesn't run on intel graphics or an APU I DON'T WANT IT!!

You are aware that an AMD has an apu that has 4060 level performance right?
So your statement is meaningless

I have a Ryzen 8000 APU.
Shit is so good. I can play all my games with reasonable settings without a dGPU and I have zero interest on getting anything more resource heavy than Elden Ring.

All modern games suck. Modern APUs can play every game that matters.

Many games can play on integrated graphics, but will run at low resolution, low details, or poor framerates. Why live with that when even a low end dGPU will do much better?

Or is this an "I bought a laptop and it kind of sucks" cope thread?
>>
>>108061379
So I can theoretically run modern games on an Intel atom cpu from 2009?
You are just retarded, man
>>
>>108061379
No, i'm actually using a 6800XT right now, but i only ever play doom 2, emulated PS2 and older or indie games. I feel like a retard for having a 6800XT.
>>
>>108061396
No. Where did I say or imply that? You can run a surprising number of older games very well on modern integrated graphics, especially AMD's, and many but not all newer games on low settings and 720p. New AAA games are basically a non-starter on anything integrated, but every year the AAA games are lamer than the last. Indy games are where it's at, and those are much more likely to run on integrated graphics.
>>
>>108061461
Given the market right now, you should consider selling that 6800XT and either using your integrated graphics or buying a cheaper used GPU if you have a CPU without any.

I fucking swear no one is even making games worth buying a graphics card to play. The last few that I was actually excited to play and see were fucking Doom, Witcher3, and Cyberpunk 2069 and all those are old as shit now. Everything made now has to be shit so it can run on a Switch 1

I'm at this boat right now. My current specs are:
>CPU
Ryzen 7 1700
>GPU
GTX 1060 6GiB

The only reason I'm thinking about upgrading is because of the VRAM of modern games, but the game I've played the most recently was factorio... Sure, with mods with all the sprite library into memory will overpower the GPU and cause it to stutter, but I can just lower it to minimum and only use 2GiB of VRAM.
I'm not sure it is worth it, and I've been looking more and more into just emulating older games that I haven't had the time to play, or want to replay (mostly PS1/PS2 games, and a few GC since I've never had one).

This config is fine for most everything nowadays, and with the price of everything inflating more than a latex fursuiter in a kinkcon, I'm seriously thinking about just replacing shit if it breaks instead.
>>
>>108061120

It's almost 10 years old... Ofc it wouldn't be that good for today's performance numbers. It is on par with a 8300G in terms of multicore performance, which rcps3 uses.
I might get performance issues, sure, but it runs stuff fine.

>>108061948
Depends. What do you like to play? Anon here suggested Doom WADs: >>108061954 - that would be my pick since you've mentioned Crysis 2.
Doom is probably the most modded game ever, and will probably be the most modded game ever for a long time.
I personally play Factorio on my machine, and I could even play Satisfactory on it (although with an i5-11th gen and iGPU I had to reduce everything to minimum and run it on 720p).
Emulation (up to PSX/PS2) is good, too, but you've already mentioned retro-gaming, so yeah.
Other option is perusing indie titles for something, but a list of what games you play/used to play would be a good start.

Yup. It's my work laptop. I only have Factorio and Binding of Isaac Rebirth on it, since I sometimes have to "hurry up and wait" or have to kill time on the go.
It's a V14 G2 ITL. Kinda sucks that it only has 1 SODIMM slot, but I've bought a 16GiB for it a couple of years ago. It's pretty good for what it is.

Very baste...
You don't "need more". That PC can play loads of ebin games.
>>
>>108062098
Kek, yeah... As "bad" as this config is, I'm still astonished that it managed to run Satisfactory, even though it was on low settings, 720p and 50% render resolution.
Back in the early 2010s, an iGPU means you couldn't play anything, since you didn't have either Hardware T&L or Pixel/Vertex Shader. It's amazing how far they've become.
I remember having to use SwiftShader to emulate it, running games that required it at 640x480 with single-digit frames per second. Good times.

Yup, pretty much. Most games from PS2 are at least good. Some of them are great.
Some from NES all the way to PSX are great. All in all, you have probably at least 5k games to choose from from US/EU library alone, and from those at least 200 of them are in the "must play" category.

>>108062020
Here's the fetch from my home PC. Yeah, I know... Windows 11... I'm not the only user on this PC, and sending everyone to linux would be a bigger hassle than just keeping supporting this. I am trying Debian 13 on a separate SSD that I have, though. It works great!... Except for the Nvidia drivers, because Pascal is the last one without the open-source ones that most distros support, so I need to manually install the proprietary ones. From what I've tried, though, it works just as good under Debian compared to Windows.

>>108061886
Alright, I'm home. Here's the fetch from my home PC. I have RPCS3 and currently have Drakengard 3, GoW Collection, GoW3 and NIER pre-loaded. Pick a game, I'll record it and send it here, with the FPS overlay to show you if you want to.

Nice picks.
For indies that I've played, There's, well, Factorio, The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth, Bloodstained (same director from Castlevania SotN), Cuphead, Dead Cells, FTL: Faster than Light, Gunfire Reborn, Hades, Hollow Knight, A Hat in Time, Last Epoch, Muse Dash, Nine Sols (highly recommended chink game, similar to Hollow Knight), OneShot, Paranautical Activity, Satisfactory (3D Factorio, but that one might be difficult to run on an iGPU, but it is possible), Risk of Rain 2, Torchlight, Vampire Survivors and a few others that I can't remember nor find on my Steam library right now...

Anyways, depends a lot on what kinds of games you like playing. Just be careful with Factorio, though... You sit down to play for 15 minutes and 4 hours go by.

>>108063728
Kek, thanks, anon. It's both a great and horrible game, depending on perspective.

I don't care what others say, but you are right. Based take. dGPU's are a weird trend, people started on intel graphics, consoles don't use a fucking dGPU, Macbooks, good thinkpads, phones etc. dGPU's belong to AI data centers, servers, cloud services or in your fucking PC at work. Those ugly things get bigger, more power hungry, loud and warm. I'm so happy that AMD and Nvidia gave up on (consumer) dGPUs.
