>boss gave me the spiel about programming being entirely AI reliant in a few yearsI'm tired. I should have forced my retarded ass to study harder and get a real degree that would pay more here in eurabia and would actually give some job security in the future. Here I am instead regreting every choice I've ever made.I like being a code monkey. I like typing my shitty code on Vim. I don't enjoy using AI. But I go on LinkedIn (big mistake), every single fucking post is about AI programming. I go on X (big mistake) and I see the same shit. Even on YouTube, almost everyone except that one russian guy is now telling you to vibe code.I guess I'll just go back to school when 80% of tech jobs just vanish. That or I will get gunned down by the elites once they stop having to pretend they don't want us dead.

>>108062327People are telling you in 2026 that "if you're not generating most of code, you risk falling behind". And that's the part I have issue with. I thought most programmers didn't like reviewing code, and AI code is still by most accounts error prone enough that it requires thorough inspection. Yet you have e-celebs online, including actual programmers who have built shit and have renown for their work basically telling you that you're a fucking retarded troglodyte if you're not generating most of your code in 2026. It's just jarring how opinions have changed in a matter of months and I hate that they did because now I have to hear this shit IRL too.
>>108062384haha just fall back on your soft skills haha

>>108062384it's because 90% of work code is shit that everyone else has already written hundreds of timesyou don't need to reinvent the wheel for the 1 trillions time
>>108061751That's amazing. I'm in a massive corporate so I don't have exposure to people this uninformed, I really want to know what the fuck they think front end, back end and database means. Especially front end. Anyway, you need to clarify about and terminology. I'd hope and pray they're talking about turning off legacy systems after a migration.>I'm seeking clarification on which aspects of front end and back end you are seeking to retire. Front end is a broad term for how a user can enter data or receive information. Back end covers anything that supports front end, including the database.
>>108061745Pretty sure I was a better programmer 2 years ago.

>>108062276Nearly all of my friends work in software, and there's a clear relationship between job enjoyment and how much AI tooling you're forced to use. The few friends who actually like their jobs don't use AI for much besides searching documentation or getting ideas, whereas everyone at companies run by AI zealots hates it. I think part of it is because higher ups at those companies are worthless outside of checking KPIs, and LoC is the only way they know how to judge someone's value. But also because it feels like you're a sweatshop worker who's just crapping out lines of code as quickly as possible. There's no pride in problem solving or fulfillment through work.
>>108062551Correct. I can't tell you ins and outs of newest React version, or write cutting edge deferred shading pipeline or explain opcodes in some new x86-64 extension. But I know things here and there and have solid intuition.Luckily that's sort of skillset that is actually desired in what I'm doing, which is prototyping various shit for new clients in a software house.
>>108062611>there's a clear relationship between job enjoyment and how much AI tooling you're forced to useThat's very true. I only use AI to explain parts of project to me or write throw away scripts or schemas. On the other hand I have friends who vibe code shit 90% of time and they hate programming, planning to move away from it eventually.I think if you like programming you are less incentivized to use AI simply because you have fun programing. Otherwise if you spent most of your time at job trying to wrangle some bot to write shit for you and constantly debug its mistakes you are going to start to hate the job eventually anyway.
>>108062537I think that document was AI generated. Someone wanted to tell the AI to do preliminary work for me and instructed it by telling it that we plan to remove that frontend and backend(but forgotten to tell it we will replace it with a new one) but AI just rolled along with it and decided we are going naked database now. That's probably why it described how to write views for new functionality for no good reason whatsoever. The queries and explanations it suggested are inconsistent, forgets or hallucinate columns and shit like that. I was very confused when I saw this first because why would a project manager send me document with detailed but incomplete implementation details for feature I haven't even started to work on. I will just tell him that this isn't really helpful and he can ask AI to help him write good acceptance criteria instead of implementation details.

Real bottlenecks are managerial decisions which are unlikely to be fixed by AI slop like wrong design decisions, poor planning or having to wait for another team to implement something on their end in 3 sprints.Again, do you seriously enjoy reviewing code more than writing?
>>108065727>Again, do you seriously enjoy reviewing code more than writing?NTA but I enjoy writing code more than reviewing code if and only if I have to do an equal amount of one or the other. >>108061723Hopefully some of the senior anons can help me with this. I've been a software engineer for 3 years now. I work with a small company, and have done everything from hardware research to fixing RMAs to implementing back-end and front-end software. A new device we're working on will have a web-based GUI instead of the standard on-device GUIs we've previously built. I was tasked with designing the web application from the ground up because some of my coursework in my Bachelors included web development (I'm by no means a web developer though). I researched design tools, built a design system using design tokens (using PenPot. Pretty neat tool though immature). I spent a whole month working on a GUI design that I though would be simple to implement and follows whatever best practices I could absorb over the course of the past month. I was told throughout the design effort that one of my seniors would have a lot of things to change, but that ultimately my efforts would end up in some form in the final product. My tech lead walked by the other day and instead showed me the designs of the senior, which look nothing like what I'd designed (even though I'd been producing high-quality documentation along the way and updating the email chain with everything that was added and why). His design leads me to believe that they didn't even look at the documents or system I'd made. Is this normal? I understand that it could be part of the fact that I'm only 2 years into my career, but it just seems insane that they'd throw away a month's worth of work on a very budget-constrained project. It feels bad, man. When I was shown his design, I requested to be assigned different work because it didn't seem like my input was valued, only to be told that I couldn't work on another project until I was finished creating the design documentation for a design that I no longer have any hand in creating. I've never had a poor performance review, and I truly enjoy my job. feels bad, man

Gonna try to apply for a new software job. Bored out of my mind at my current job and the commute isn't great. Is this a good idea with talk about AI taking over? I'd be the first to go as a new hire if I switched now. Also any tips for applying? Yurop btw.
>>108067880>I'd be the first to go as a new hire if I switched nownot necessarily they could have easily laid me off a couple of years ago but I think they didn't because I was (still am) being paid the least
>>108067603Brutal. Any tips for advancing my career then? This small company has no opportunities for advancement, but the market seems hostile to software engineers right now. I've been applying to jobs that seem interesting and that I'd be a good fit for but I haven't heard anything back.

I've been applying to positions in C++ but I've only professionally worked with GC languages.Does this give hiring managers the ick or what? I get rejected even though I do know how to program in C and C++, I've made lots of personal projects in them.
>>108068183It can be a little tricky with C++ jobs. C++ is one of those languages where if the place you are applying at is super zealous about a particular style of C++ (usually ultra modern) and you're not obviously already immersed in it, you can be unfairly dinged. I'd recommend getting very familiarized with template metaprogramming concepts - iterators and that sort of thing. That's the shit these types tend to love.

Pretty hard not to be demoralized in current market with no new job offers available.Development is dead and operations is just hammering bash scripts while being on-call and stressed all the time. It's pretty rough, I'm not sure whether to keep going in this field or do something else with my life, but nothing pays as much and has comfy remote for semi-neet people like me.

Hell it's not even good in the hands of a junior that doesn't understand why the code that they generated that compiles and passes all of the tests is bad. But it's good enough to 10x a competent engineer that knows how to get granular with their requests to get out perfection>Figma mcp server>GitHub mcp server>Jira mcp server>Confluence mcp server >Read the tech spec and create a Jira epic and the tickets>Assign them point values>Let's work on ticket X >Create a branch for that ticket>Generate this single component from the design in this figma >Create a request endpoint for a backend server>Create a function that is called by that request with these specific inputs and outputs using this documentation from confluence >Commit and push>Create a PR I've got my workflow to a point that I can almost nearly remove the keyboard and just work through voice alone. >>108068299okay here's my ideas after around 5-10 minutes. Mind you I never actually took a leetcode interview before>https://leetcode.com/problems/palindrome-linked-list/description/do 1 pass to put the values into a stack and find the length of the list. Do a 2nd pass pop 1 value at a time from the stack and march a pointer 1 space through the list until you're through half of the stack>https://leetcode.com/problems/longest-substring-without-repeating-characters/description/keep a start and end pointer and a set of characters in the current string. Advance the end pointer until you reach a duplicate, then advance the start pointer until the duplicate is removed. >https://leetcode.com/problems/combination-sum/description/Recursive approach. Some function like f(target, currentIndex) and the recursively call it with f(target - array[index], index) and f(target, index+1). If it was just counting them you could return 1 if target is 0, 0 if less than 0 or index out of bounds, and then add the two calls together. You could memoize this too. Actually storing the combinations is a bit of a bitch though
