Elon has begun hiring people for his Data centers in space project

Why did /g/ think he would never do it? He's literally gonna build space data centers
>>
It’s still one of the most retarded ideas that’s been proposed so far in this millennium. Absolutely pants-on-head retarded.
>>
Probably the idea that will finally bankrupt him.
>>
>>108081392
>keep you fingers crossed that we'll one day develop the technology required to make elon's ketamine vision a reality
>>
>>108081429
I think the mega fab project is that which will bankrupt him. Imho the first space datacenter prototype will be launched on starship within 18 months.
>>
>>108081392
Elon wants to be able to use nukes and still have internet in his bunker, don’t let them launch this shit
>>
>>108081392
Developing payload for a rocket yet to reach orbit.
>>
>doomsday event happening in <10 years
>he knows that this plus neuralink is the only chance humanity has to upload its collective conscious and jettison it out into space to preserve it
Something big is about to happen that will justify all of this
>>
>>108081632
Or maybe Elon is scared of death?
>>

>>
>>108081392
Lot of reddit tourists here parrot what reddit communist have told them
>>
>>108081429
Just have SpaceX buy it and the government pay for it
>>
>>108081426
>>108081429
incredible insight. I presume you also have a rocket that can land itself yes?
>>
>>108081392
just give it to the H1B-whatever people
they can't make shit stick in outer space
>>
>>108081632
Anything orbiting in space is essentially defenseless against conventional weapons. Those satellites would be the first things to get blown up.
>>
>>108081795
Can SpaceX defend themselves? Or are they not allowed to defend against nation states?
>>
>>108081832
Nuking EU and Russia would solve a lot of the world's problem at this moment
>>
>>108081640
If he were he should've started biotech companies instead with ethically dubious human trials to speed up research
>>
How fast can heat even be dissipated in space? The atmosphere is low so all you have is radiated heat to carry it away. There's no conduction. Or is the impetus just powerful solar.
>>
>>108081392
Never heard of PR expenses? Bet you believe all those ghost jobs companies post are real and signs of growth.
>>
>>108081913
It's a lot easier to radiate away energy in space than it is on earth, ambient temperature is a lot lower, everything can radiate away without bouncing back.
>>
>>108081913
see >>108081703 there is a chapter on that. very problematic and scales poorly, current best space heatsink could cool only about 16 GPUs
>>
>>108081946
lmao
>>
>>108081970
You can never radiate to a lower temperate than the ambient background temperature.
>>
>>108081963
Looking into it apparently manned spacecraft need active cooling when exposed to sunlight.
>>
>>108081392
Hiring people to work on the project doesn't automatically mean it will be done.
>>
>>108081392
Elon's motto is "overpromise, underdeliver"
I wonder what he's going to underdeliver this time
>>
>>108081426
You're a stupid retard. Optics... automation... AI... in space.
They are going to have a unique ID for every human alive and watch us 24/7. Each person will be tracked from birth till death and the U.S. gov. can watch your whole life. U.S. agents will be like moderators in a video game if you misbehave. Literal /ban userid reason and you are fucking gone. A human agent can ask an AI agent about someones life - did this person like school work? Did this person attend that concert? What does userid do for work? Show me on screen userids favorite childhood memory. They will know everything. You really think they are gonna host their X.com servers in space because it's cool? fuck you retard
>>
>>108081999
He'll deliver a gaming computer to space and somehow manage to have it on. Then he'll stream himself playing Diablo for 5 minutes with 3800 ms ping and then it overheats and dies. That's mission accomplished.

With black body radiation, its ironically easier to cool things in space if things are running hotter. You need less radiator space to run 100C GPU in space than 40C. A LOT less, more than half the size of the radiator. So space actually wants electronics to run hot if you want your radiator to be small and radiate away the heat fast.

If you want to operate a 100KW sat in space with 90C operating temp for your GPU, your radiator only needs to be ~100m2. If you run @ 40C 100KW sat, you need 200m2 of radiator size.

Blackbody radiation

1. SpaceX bought xAI and he needs money
2. Latest Epstein files release confirms he and his brothers are pedos
>>
Please tell me /g/, what is the temperature in space?
>>
>>108082072
Yes I found the Stefan boltzmann equation. See
>>108081990
Though. Apparently the impact of the sun on spacecraft is not trivial
>>
>>108081999
Server rack in a tunnel with color changing LEDs
>>
Who is going to launch space mines now?
>>
>>108082103
like 2 or 3 iirc
>>
>>108082072
what a retarded conclusion. yes, hotter things radiate more energy. but it's not easier to cool hotter things. heat just won't accumulate endlessly when you start producing more than you can dissipate. your temperature only increases until you reach a new equilibrium where you radiate as much heat as you produce.
but servers have an upper limit for temperatures they can handle. so just letting your space station heat up is not the solution.
>>
>>108081392
I'm just waiting for the next Starship launch. If this project gets me more Starship launches, then I wish him luck.

Are you apart of the dickhead clique that recently got outed in the Epstein files? The same clique that /pol/ was created for top push whatever agenda Epstein wanted (including getting Trump elected)? You cunts IP banned me years ago from /pol/ when I was criticizing Trump. 4chan is pozzed as fuck by you faggots. Outer space data centers is such a dumb fucking idea that not even relentless shilling on 4chan by (You) cunts are going to do it.

>bro just put the data centers is space bro, it's closer to the sun so liek infinite energy bro
>k, how are you going to cool the fuckin' servers? Heat is hard to shake if you're in the fucking vacuum of space
>bro, it's -270c out there dude. it's mad chill!
>it's space dickhead, heat doesn't go away like that. and besides, what kind of fucking astronaut technicians are you going to send up with shit inevitably breaks? what's the point of all this besides making some fantastical and futuristic sounding bullshit like "The Boring Company" that scams fuckwit investors out of money?

You fucking faggots need to stop fucking kids and put the fries in the bag.
>>
>>108082072
> just 200m2 of radiator bro thats nothing
who are you trying to fool
>>
>>108081392
I bet it will end up with some 80iq H1B shitskin causing some catastrophic failure that will render a few dozens of people dead in space.
>>
>>108081392
yea, can see it now, a massive football field sized building flying around earth at whatever speed they are in at orbit.
>>
>>108081712
SpaceX is getting most of its money from Starlink now.
The money from the big government contracts is just a side gig now.
>>
Likely the impetus for these data centers is space is the regulations on power and water usage as well as pollution that he doesn't want to deal with for regular data centers on Earth.
But the problem is that you can't get the same compute density on a satellite that you can on Earth, so instead you will need to launch thousands of satellites for one data center you could build on Earth.

Elon could instead just invest in building some mega factories in the US to churn out proper solar, not the stupid roof tiles shit, and use that along with his battery mega factories to power data centers on the planet, but the current administration doesn't rewards renewable energies so it's not appealing.
>>
>>108083437
Why did he side with the administration that preferred coal when he owns an electric vehicle company?
>>
>>108081989
so why does my room thermometer say 26 by my gpu idles at 22?
>>
>>108081392
His initial successes, specifically landing rockets, were beyond incredible. But for years now every time I hear about a new Elon idea all I can think is I wish I could get paid billions to go around announcing wildly optimistic nonsense on Xitter.
>Extracting gold from salt water is easily feasible
>We are going to convert cancer into lean muscle mass
>We have found the solution to male pattern baldness
>We are tripling RAM production by the end of the month
>Everyone in the company gets their own quantum computer
>>
>>108081392
musk is a businessman and he's pretty good at it. he latches on to retarded ideas, ideally ones that receive government gibs, and he scams harder than anyone on earth. this mentally retarded data center in space idea will probably push him to $2 trillion net worth.
>>
>>108083451
Because the administration that before wanted his companies shutdown, all of his companies shutdown that they launched dozens of lawsuits to stop his companies.
>>
>>108083634
You're not working only with radiative cooling in a vacuum
>>
Can't easily shut down CP servers in space, and starlink lets them watch 24/7.
>>
>>108083670
i just assumed it was because my thermometer is higher in the room than my pc but nice one for that. gonna switch it on and watch top gear repeats for a bit.
>>
>>108083799
Yeah, if you don't have any phase change cooling or something similar then it shouldn't be cooler than ambient.
>>
>>108083241
H1B Visa workers can't work in SpaceX due to ITAR.
>>
>>108083437
Who do you support?
>Administration that is about 80% on board with you
Or
>Administration that is about 20% on board with you
>>
>>108083653
>>Extracting gold from salt water is easily feasible
>>We are going to convert cancer into lean muscle mass
>>We have found the solution to male pattern baldness

I don't remember seeing Musk say any of that.
>>
>>108081437
Has any tesla giga factory ever been built, I saw a lot of things being said years ago but never saw anyone say it's been successfully built and running, now it's been years since I've seen anything about it.
>>
>>108082012
You are fucking retarded. If I wanted to design something like that, the LAST thing I'd do is to gimp it in regards to computing power, maintenance, and finally PUT IT ON FUCKING RAILS SO THAT ANYONE COULD SHOOT IT DOWN.
>>108083069
It doesn't matter if they're paid to post these kinds of things or not, 4chan is and has been a psyop for a very long time. Look up "How Banning Hentai From A Comedy Forum Changed The World". These people are either posting from Eglin, bots, or psyopped. In reality, it doesn't matter which one it is.
>>
>>108081392
How does he not understand all electronics in space needs to be hardened against space radiation?
How does he not understand that cooling is more difficult?
How does he not understand that powering a data center in space is more difficult?
He owns a satellite and rocket company yet how does he not know this? Surely he must know, right?

If it's so difficult why do this then? Please name ONE benefit to putting AI in space?
Just one benefit that would make all these challenges worth the extra effort, or any benefit to space based AI.

It seems the ONLY and singular benefit to what Musk is proposing is it sounds cool, which lets Musk scam investors out of more money. That's literally the only benefit to this. Let that sink in for a minute. Musk is proposing an impossible task, simply because he wants to scam his investors. This should be illegal, and I'm almost positive it is illegal, but unfortunately the law can't touch him till he's succeeded, and at that point he'll be a trillionair and he can just bribe his way out of court.
His plans may succeed, but only because there the law can't stop him and there's enough suckers who'll fall for his scam.
>>
>>108081392
He'll do it, I mean also dug these useless, expensive (paid mostly by US goys) tunnels in LA and Las Vegas kek
>>
>>108083902
>He owns a satellite and rocket company yet how does he not know this? Surely he must know, right?
I'm sure that you know about this more than the CEO of a rocket company or his engineers.
>If it's so difficult why do this then? Please name ONE benefit to putting AI in space?
Don't have to pay for land and electricity.
>>
Poe's law should be rebranded as Musktard's law because every time I see someone sucking Musk's dick I literally can't tell if it's supposed to be a parody or someone legitimately retarded.
>>
>>108083902
there's no jurisdiction in space
>>
>>108083959
The police might not be able to seize your satellite but they can suspend your launch licences and your ground stations. Your pedo heaven is some ways off.
>>
>>108083940
>Don't have to pay

>for land
You still gotta pay to ship everything to space via rockets. Arguably it's cheaper just to buy land.
>electricity
Where does the free electricity come from then? And don't say solar panels cause that's more or less the same as on Earth but with added cost of putting it in orbit.

Do keep up anon - they've been built, ran and are now being shut down again. Tesla sold more cars in Europe back when they were just importing them. Since then, thye built a factory, Eon went Full Musk and sales fell off a cliff, 'Berlin Gigafactory not Needed'.
