So you admit you are below 18? Using expletives doesn't make you more mature, it just shows how flustered you are.

OP wants a low power server. The lowest idle power machines use iGPU not dGPU, and they're Intel based not AMD based (unless you're using the GE versions of the AMD CPUs, which you can't even buy retail, it's usually soldered to the motherboard).

You can look this up if you have more than 2 brain cells to rub together.

could I just install SteamOS on my PC to maximize gaming compatibility and get rid of Windows? is it suitable as a desktop OS?
>>
I might, but I largely see no point. I could already hook-up a spare laptop or my old server, gaming pc to the TV instead. I would consider it if it has a snappy, easy to use UI which allows it to become a good media box as well. I hate shit like a Roku or Firestick. Don't want to buy an aging Nvidia shield or one of the cheap Chinese media sticks. The only consoles I really consider are Nintendo for exclusives anyway, as the only multiplayer game I'd play on console is something like Smash or Mario Party anyway.

If it's highly moddable or easy to take apart and add stuff - I may consider it just to support Valve. Their hardware has been good. Their customer support and warranty stuff has been good. I would turn it into an emulation box. If they can hit a niche space where it also works as a good media streaming box without the hassle of needing a mouse and keyboard to do everything - then I would consider it. It doesn't really fill a niche I need in my life right now anyway. I never watch TV on a couch as is anymore, and I haven't in 10+ years.
>>
I have a better computer and no use for this, if they made a tablet with a detachable keyboard with reasonable performance then I would buy it.
The main problem with that is that Linux's touch support is bad at best and abysmal as standard.

People will swallow gabes cubes whole.

That beingvsaid I'm still of the opinion that the majority of the stock will be bundled together with games. Possibly they will create some sort of system where the buyer will be able to pick a handfull of games to bundle with it.

It would make since to sell it with a dozen or so games that have been handpicked to run well on the system before hand. If they offer it as a stand alone product it will be picked up by scalpers, but if they bundle it with a dozen games that can't be sold off after the fact they could offer it below even manufacturing price if they wanted to and scalpers wouldn't touch it.

People think it will be sold with the controller and I don't doubt it, but even then scalpers would just jump on it and try and part out the controller separately.

If its under $900 it's a killer deal for the product so I can see them just dumping a bunch of games from the store with it and saying "look at the value" when really they're just trying to stave off the scalpers.

People looking for a pc replacement or home theatre system without accessing the steam ecosystem are going to be disappointed. They knew from the start that retards were going to try and privateer it for a cheap media station without bothering to interact with valve or steam as a whole.

People with no steam account looked at it and where like "how can I make this work for me?".

It unironically may be an upgrade to my current PC (i7 7700 + GTX 1080), while being more energy efficient. I am assuming devs will likely optimize for it as well (though not some, as most devs are retarded). As a standalone gaming device, it could be a good option? No upgrade path though...

Not really. It depends on if the CPU will be a chiplet or monolithic , the IO die itself could use up a ton of power. You also don't know what package C state it could get to. The dGPU might prevent it from reaching below C3. You also have no idea whether the NIC proper has proper ASPM support.

Absolutely not happening. Don't even think about it at that price. Now, legitimate yet unpleasant doomposting aside, if you want a real option you can get now, I know shit like previous gen ROG Ally and Lenovo Legion GO handhelds can be found quite cheap for their specs. You can just dock one of them if you want a desktop experience, and then take it on the go at your leisure.

>>108086488
No bullshit here: I don't own one at this time, so I won't comment on the user experience. However, I've seen various benchmarks, and am aware of both the versatility and general performance you can hope for.
>Are Cortana, OneDrive, and the update service going to be riding my dick hard?
For the ones intended for Windows in mind, it should be fine if you just use a debloating utility (check this gen: >>108064001 ). That will help you to minimize performance-crushing bloat and update nagging. It's easy shit; I use it on my Win 10 install personally, and it's chill. Microsoft has been working on making Windows "handheld-friendly" for a while now too, in order to further break into the market, so you'll find some optimizations for it here and there. Otherwise, you'll be looking at running some version of Linux, which may be a bit more performant in some cases or last longer for battery life. You do what you will with your own property.
>When your interests are mostly Doom2, RenPy VNs, and emulation it's enough
For your use cases, any of these handhelds should be more than enough, and with the added benefit of being able to chill in bed while playing said older content and offering you the potential of modern shit if you wish. It will cost less than the Steam machine and offer you more versatility.
>What I really got tired of is trying to obtain a legit LTSC license
As for the license, any of them that are designed for Windows should come with the license included unless some goober fucked with it.

Cause I could just put that money back in stocks and make 15K instead of spending the 1.5K in useless tech?
>>
>>108084890

>>
>>108082015
The memory alone is worth $400. Try $1000-1200 starting.
>>

>Will you buy it?

No, my PC is much better than that. I was interested in the steam frame, but now that they announced a delay and a price hike i'm not so sure anymore.

>I'm tired of dealing with Winfaggotry

What's stopping you from installing linux? SteamOS isn't special, it's just arch-btw with a Valve skin. You can install Bazzite (steamos for generic hardware) right now if you're that focused on your bleep-bloops.

>>108082015
>8GB vram
>no FSR4
might as well wait for the new Xbox, which will also be a hybrid desktop/console and be much more performant.
>>
I'm definitely interested, and depending on pricing I'll probably get one. I want Valve to succeed with a mainstream Linux computer. I haven't daily driven Linux in over 5 years, but Windows is making the idea of switching back more appealing by the day. All of what I do on my computer is either web based or gaming. If Proton really does effectively solve gaming on Linux I'll switch my primary desktop over, but I want to test it on the Steam machine, as I asusme that will give the best impression.

Also depending on pricing I might order some for work. Ironically we would be putting Windows on them, but as long as the hardware turns out to be reliable, and if they're priced reasonably, I'd be happy to try these out for a hardware refresh over the Optiplex/Dell Pro PCs that we normally buy.

Yet another "I'm gonna move one day" LARPing moron. Nobody cares.
>>
>>108094274
Not sure what point you're trying to make
>>
>>108094357
There are thousands upon thousands of anons who are fed up with windows, pinky promising that one day they will move to linux. Its such a boring, tired, non-commital position.
You could install Linux right now and share something interesting.
You won't, because you're like some fat cunt who is always going to start a diet tomorrow but fails the moment they're hungry.
Just fucking commit, stop dragging your heals. You literally have no reason if you're as fed up as you LARP you are.
>>
>>108094191

You're whining about Windows, but not wanting to take your medicine because it isn't valve-flavored. The software to make linux gaming is already here (proton just works), you don't need a cheap econo-box with a valve logo slapped on it to make it happen. This is all just an excuse to consoom a new toy from Gaben as a present to yourself
>>
>>108094402
I'm not "LARP"ing as anything. It's not that serious to me. I own dozens of computers and professionally manage thousands more. I use every mainstream OS out there, so I'm not sure why you're more emotionally invested on what I run on one of my computers than I am.
>>
>>108094462
I don't care what OS you use, that's not my point. Its "le tired of windows one day I will move to Linux" LARP that is tiring to see. Stop being a pussy and just do it
>>
>>108083907
interesting, this confirms anyone shilling steamos is a valve marketing employee because nobody ever mentions this and heh, kinda a big kicker innit?
>>
>>108082015
>I'm thinking about it if it's less than like $600

You're not gonna be able to even get a playstation for less than $600 by the middle of the year if the bubble doesn't pop

>no other form of Linux is remotely operable

double digit IQ zoomoids like you don't deserve nice things

Hope they scrap the idea entirely and you're stuck with semi bricked jeetware for eternity

Go back to Android/iOS like the cattlecuck you are.

>no other form of Linux is remotely operable

Wrong. You just need to tinker away and eventually reformat and tinker again when it inevitably breaks.
>>
>>108082015
16gb ram is not enough, I could live with 32 tho even my e-waste machine has 64.

Choosing to not be upset about something I have no control over, even if I don't like it?
I don't like paying taxes either but I don't waste my day bitching about them. I don't stop going to work because I have to pay them.
>>
>>108082015
>Will you buy it
yes.

When the deck came out I was like "waaayyyy tooo old for that".

Back when I had an nvidia shield, I started gaming in a public restaurant, and some kid was obviously overwhelmed with jealousy, and that was when I was like ok not doing that again. So from then on, I try to only take out my Kindle. my cousins know I have a phone, and insist on playing on it though.
>>
>>108096113
So you don't like problems, choose not to "bitch about them", and tell others to do as you do? And what do you think this kind of complacency will achieve?
>>
they should just sell a barebones model without RAM or NVME.
>>
amerimutts who definitely don't spend all day thinking about trannies arrived to tell us all about how they can't stop thinking about trannies
>>
>>108096189
Well, it helps me not drive threads to bump limit arguing about trannies.
