I could see them letting you install Linux. I mean why not? More concerning I think is the state of the laptop. Like if you return it with slight imperfections are they going to charge you for the whole thing?

and what are they going to do? sue me for the item and spend thousands of dollars on the most expensive Judicial system of the planet hearth? hahhhahahaha
>>
>>108085659
Nope it’s actually just violating a contract since they agreed to let you take it. No criminal act, police won’t get involved. Just like the cops don’t repossess your car, it’s a guy in a tow truck hired by the lender.
HP would need to take you to civil court and prove you violated the contract then get a judgement to force you to repay it.
>>

>a $1800 laptop
they're not gonna give you an $1800 laptop for $35. That's the starting price, which gets you a refurbished piece of shit with 4GB RAM and and Intel i3. No SSD, just use the cloud (charged separately, of course).

>>
>>108087289
I standardised on 2TB, 1TB and 500GB HDDs along with 512GB SSDs and 512GB SD Flash and LTO and Blue ray backup. But I have three raid five boxes and most machines are 2TB minimum. I have boxes of HDDs as spares and stacks of win 7 era laptops, GPUs DDR3/4 etc as well. I'm good for decades. Stuff is defnitely drying up fast though. Most of my use is on XP/7/10 though via 5 machines and two NAS.

To give one example, the last Nvidia GPU support you can get working on XP is a 970/980 so it makes sense to have that on a diual booinng XP/7 machine but it will run anything from that era, which spans a LONG time and most of the best software and games ever made. Win 10 takes you up to now.

I simply do not care for cloud centric computing or online activation or software as a service.

Consider this, if your LAN is offline wired and airgapped, you don;t need security, you don;t need logons and you don't need updates, just stored images of clean optimal installs. Physcial media has no parts or electical cost.

Go offline. Freedom.
>>
>>108087345
That's not raid that's mirroring, you'll need four for raid 5. Also bigger HDDs do not equal better rebuild times and the degree of data loss risk rises, I find 2TB, 1TB, 500GB optimal.
>>

it's less effecient to open a file in a remote datacentre that from a local lan, less private by design and less secure by design plus you have a subsciption cost. You are an idiot.

Sorry I didn't mean to be flippant anon but actually how could it tank your credit rating? It's not a loan but just a subscription, I guess they could send you to collections eventually but you probably have years before that happens.
>>
>>108087393
>raid 1 is no raid
>>
>>108087460
it wouldn't involve credit ratings since you're not repaying a loan but if you did stop paying and fucked with the device, they would most likely threaten you with legal action if you didn't return it, in addition probably charging you some obscene cancellation fee.
>>
>>108087451
I have three raid 5 NAS and plus a second hdd local attacked storage on each machine.
>>
>>108087466
nope raod 1 is not raid, it's shit, its slow and crap raid five minimum or go home.
>>
>>108087460
>It's not a loan but just a subscription
a subscription is payment for a time-limited service - you stop paying, the service stops.
This is hardware, its leasing, which already long exists for PCs/hardware, just 'subscription' makes for better clickbait. But the difference being, its then same as a leased car or whatever. Stop paying, you need to return it, or its (technically) theft and you are liable for the replacement cost, unless they can repo it. Subscriptions, no-one is going to pursue you for not paying those, as service stops when you stop paying. Even Adobe - who (nominally) charge cancellation fees and tack on all sorts of bullshit, won't go fucking anywhere near collections/Court for these costs as they would get thrown out.

It is of couse unfast, unprivate and unsecure by design.

thats why in critical gov spaces they have it disabled because its not well documented and can be leveraged to do spooky things. also no niggers can steal here so no point.

I have to laugh at you glowtards because you never come running when someone brings up microsoft pluton as thats something you dont want to bring a public eye to.
