How do we fix Linux?
>>
>>108087421
>idiots fuck it up and then complain on the internet before returning to winjeet or itard trash
looks like it's fixing itself, broskie
>>

Stop using package managers meant for servers because they always fucking break everything.
>>
>>108087421
When was this published? If it's recent then it 100% Microslop sponsored bullshit. Everybody and their dog has been singing praises to Linux lately, and they are not wrong. Winblows finally reached peak enshittification and nobody cares about it anymore. Linux is still rough around the edges, even the most polished diatros are, but people prefer deal with Linux fuckery than stay on that piece of crap OS OP is using.
>>
>>108087421
no fixing needed. linux needs to be borderline unusable for everyone who DOESNT treat their OS as a hobby. gaymers and normalfags need to be kept out

You can't fix user errors.

>We're sorry
There's no "we", it's a fucking program. As a general rule of thumb, any software with messages that try to sound friendly or conversational are bound to be dogshit.
>>
>>108087421
He's not wrong. You have to spend time learning how to use Linux. You never feel proficient or safe enough. It feels vulnerable and might fall apart any time.
>>
>>108087437
Which package manager should you use then?
>>
>>108088788
DNF works pretty well for me. rarely ever have any issues
>>
>>108088788
pacman has 0 flaws, dnf is nigger aids they change it constantly between fedora versions and its so aids how you add shit to it and also the non free repos aids. pacman is so simple and easy it just works
>>
>>108087435
>looks like it's fixing itself, broskie
fpbp.

Snaps and flatpaks are a mistake. Use the package manager provided with your distro and you'll have zero to no problems.
Appimages are tolerable as well, sometimes I compile from source if no other option available..

works fine on my machine. its actually extremely easy to add/remove/maintain sources, its literally its own page in discover.
>>
>>108089515
NTA, Fedora has been fantastic for me. Discover doing offline updates has been trouble free for the last few years since I switched to it. I disable flatpacks though since I want nothing to do with them.
>>
>>108087421
Actually arch/endeavour os was the least buggy distry even though it's rolling release. proprietary codecs included (so no bullshit like in fedora), and an expansive official repos. and if something is missing, 99% chance it's in the aur. but gaming performance is still 5-10% lower on nvidia than windows, so I'm going to use Windows 11 IoT Enterprise LTSC for the next 2-3 years while linux hopefully improves.
>>
>>108087421
Imagine being filtered out of an operative system by Snap.
>>
>>108089430
They are not a mistake. They are the best thing to do, but the implementations unfortunately lack sophistication, it's the eternal Linux problem about UX and lack of true design talent
>>
I could easily write an article

>I went back to Windows and it was a mistake

I don't want to go remembering my password for my old MS account or setting up rufus to use the latest bypasses so I'd rather stick with Linux and just miss out on the handful of anti-cheat cucked games that still exist.

I'm comfy on Linux, no forced reboots means I can keep my computer on all the time and not have to worry if I will lose my progress.

Oh yeah, that's why I never go tot the Verge anymore.

Most people actually do need another hobby. Look what the retarded masses occupy their time with when left to their own devices. Gentoo should be mandatory for every person, let’s see how much free time they have then heh
>>
>>108087446
your post could have come out straight out of the 00s during the vista debacle. Rest is history.

his take is pretty reasonable and he's probably run linux longer than 90% of posters on this board

>Don't work right and give issues
Checks out, that's why you should never use them.
I think we should collectively agree to tell people to never use ubungu, literally the worst distro I've ever used.
>>
>>108096103
>I think we should collectively agree to tell people to never use ubungu
Agreed, and I hate that the NPCs at work put it on everything, but what's a good first distro? Debian was mine, but the old packages annoyed me and running on testing was rough sometimes.
>>
Reminder: You can (and should) report theese low quality flamewar instigating troll spam threads. At the very least it is gonna be hidden for you
>>
>>108096144
Fedora is shit in a lot of things, but it has never given me so many issues as ubuntu has.
The only other option would be mint, but that uses cinnamon which needs lots more polishing.
I can't think of any other distro that would be good for a beginner, all arch derivatives should be avoided, and silverblue distros too, since doing anything on those is a fucking nightmare.
>>
>>108095950
why would I read it? I don't listen to "journalists".
>>
>>108087421

are you in hurry anyways just set it to work and let it run until it cannot make it anymore
>>
>>108091428
Snaps and flakpaks are cancer. They're pushed by developers and maintainers that don't want to support all sorts of different platforms and packages. Back in the day there used to be one 32-bit Linux OS and a few different distros. Now, there's hundreds of permutations. Instead of finding a solution that still makes users lives easy developers and maintainers copped out and came up with snaps and flatpaks.
But software is for users. That's the part that got lost in all of this.
>>
>>108089515
>Discover handles sources
LMAO. Arch is like:
>Please don't use Discover/Flathub. :(
>Even though Valve's fork of us does. :(
>>
I've been using Windows, Mac and Linux for about 20 years and have been a professional software developer for the majority of that time period.
I almost never recommend Linux to people I know. It's not ready for general consumer use. It's a great collection of software, tools, people and technology, but is not a finished product. Power users, developers, IT professionals, researchers, scientists, etc can get by with it in its current state but for the general public and business users it's not suitable.
The people who don't understand this are the same people that struggle to understand the difference between a software package and consumer product.
There were some alternative operating systems that had promise for the general end user, like NeXTSTEP and BeOS. Sadly, Linux never took the route those operating systems took that would have made it suitable for the general user.

problem with open source is we have retards like this that automatically assume his use case is your use case. I understand sometimes having things that just work specially when you actually work. I was just recently fucking around with my server homelab stuff. I started thinking that if I had kids and a 8-5 work day I would NOT want to be fucking around with the bullshit I am dealing with. Even an extra hour would become such a fucking drag. Sorry guys but normgroids do have a point.
>>
>>108097220
I would recommend people linux if all they do is office/web/gaming and their company uses google docs or office online or whatever it is.
>>
>>108097209
it takes 2 seconds to learn how to use pacman or an aur helper wrapper. you can search and install whatever you want before discover even loads. flatpaks are bloated containerized nonsense that make applications take longer to open and will drive you insane with permissions, valve uses them because steamos is designed to be cucked/baby proof
>>
>>108087421
Oogaboontu working as intended. Imagine having this niggers' questions polluting the forum of a real distro.
>>
>>108097344
you should see the arch forums. 99% of the posts are written by the most retarded shitters on the planet.
>>
>>108089335
I really don't like the shared abbreviation with "did not finish" - doesn't inspire confidence...
Yet to have it fail me mind...
>>
>>108095060
Gentoo isn't a hobby. The only effort is in the initial setup, which gets much easier after the first time. After you set it up, it tends to be smooth sailing.
