I've owned older versions of Magni/Modi and they were pretty 1:1 with the Atom sound wise, just QC wise the Atom is probably a safer bet - they're tanks.
The new Modi 5 has the Mesh DAC in it (which I like in my Jot 3) so you might get a little more colour in the sound. JDS stuff is always aiming for as neutral/clean as possible with what they do.

i have my EQ in the mobile app and i want to be able to change the EQ in real time. what i have now is that i can connect to my laptop using 3.5 mm audio jack and keep my headphones ON so that the DSP is still running. But the DSP keeps the last EQ set in the mobile app. as soon as i connect the wire the bluetooth disconnects and i lose access to the mobile app.
i can still use the headphone NOise cancelling and DSP when it is connected by cable but ther is no way to simultaneously connect to me bluetooth on mobile phone and real time manage the app.

They still work fine, with a few repairs over the years. I connect them to my PC via a Behringer 802 I got like 10 years ago. This also still works fine.

Secondly - I was lucky enough to fish out an early version of HD580 with paper meshes (Early HD600s also feature a very similar tonality), but they curbed down the V-shape signature later in production, yet early production units have resolution which can compete even with some estats, also they have the best bass. Ironically there is less of a difference between modern HD600/6xx/650 models than between early and late HD600 production units.

This problem will eventually develop on every device that uses a pot for volume control, which also includes the Atom 2. The Element 4, on the other hand, has an optical rotary encoder under that big knob, which IIRC controls volume digitally. Or could be a volume control IC, not quite sure. In any case, it should never develop this specific problem, though the rotary encoder or something else could still fail. Supposedly, the rotary encoder is very reliable, but who really knows. As a side benefit, channel balance is perfect at all volume settings, even at minimum volume.

I bought a Neumann 120KHII setup with a sub first, it is great but can't sleep with it, the soundfield is really wide but less accurate so the localization cues are worse for vidya, also can't really blast it loud at night without bothering other family members in the house.
Headphones are a very good addition to that.
IEM ear dildos are good if you are budgetmaxxing, but if you don't then there is 0 reason not to pick a pair of good TWS for use on the go.

Yeah I think I mentioned that when I recommended them, they're still pricy as fuck cause Sony tax + they were flagships at release. Wouldn't recommend them for what you want either.

Usually, it doesn't need to be anything crazy, thermal coupling to a somewhat substantial aluminium plate is often enough, some of the low power modules are even rated for use without heatsink, as long as convection is unimpeded.
But those really cheap Chinese amps like to skimp on that completely, and on top of that, use cheap caps that fail quickly when they get even slightly warm. And because the relevant parts are usually not thermally coupled to the case, they can run hot inside while the case outside stays cool to the touch, so don't rely on that.

Clueless retard. Think about it for a nanosecond. Distortion adds harmonics. Harmonics are higher in frequency than the base. More higher frequencies = brighter sounds. So tube amps should sound brighter, right? No, the opposite is true. This is where it actually comes from - high output impedance interacting with non-linear impedance of the headphones, which often have a bump in the bass. On planars, which have flat impedance, you don't get the tube sound, you get shit sound as expected.

Well, they do. Pair a high distortion tube amp with a flat impedance planar, and that's what you'll get.
And the impedance effect depends on the impedance curve of the headphone/speaker, with multi-driver speakers or IEMs it's possible to actually get a boost in the treble.
But usually the differences are so slight that, even in case they can be differentiated in an ABX test, it's still easy enough to deceive oneself about their nature in sighted listening, and that's all audiophools ever do. The tubes = warm meme stuck because tubes get hot, so it all makes sense, right? Similar to silver cable = cold and other such nonsense.

Been a real long time since I posted, but I said I'd review my Verum 2.

I'm not an audiophile, I'm fine with my XM5s for the convenience and ANC, but for home use I want a proper setup. I've got an Grado SR80 and HD650S, and I've decided to sell the HD650S because I don't use them anymore because of the Verum 2. I'm keeping the SR80 because they have a sound that's different enough to be interesting.

They sound wonderful, but were a bit too bright for me. I like bass so I turned their low end up by 2-3db and the highs down by 4. They sound so good that they've convinced me to stop buying new headphones. They outdo my other headphones for every genre I try. I mostly listen jazz or bass-heavy stuff like DnB. I'm not great at describing audio, but it feels like they have a very wide soundstage and great clarity; it feels like I can hear the finger on a contrabass stroke in a way I can't with other headphones.

Build-wise, I haven't had any issues. They fit my head well despite the floating headband (I've tried the Meze 99 and had to get rid of them because they didn't work for my head at all) I bought the pearlescent ones, they look fuckugly in a way I kind of like, except that the application method they used is shit, so it missed some of the corners. I'd go for anything else if I were to get some, but they sit out of sight on my head so who cares.

In short, they've become my daily drivers by such a margin that I won't buy headphones until the day I get rich and can start fucking around for fun. They've increased my joy-of-listening by a lot!

No. I love the Verum guy saying based things. I just wanted to be different and special and get the Sash Tres. That was back during Verum 1 days too and despite the performance, they looked a little goofy. I wanted to be the first Sash Treser itt. IMO If your desk setup allows you to place your speakers in the most optimal position I would spend that money. But that's difficult to do if you have a multimonitor setup, in which case just get whatever you can afford including active speakers

Actives are better for desks right up next to you just because there are a ton of tiny active speaker options (plus you save on the amp space) BUT unless you're jewing out for 1k+ a pair neuman's or genelecs you're pretty much playing the hiss roulette

So if you have space, cheap passives + cheap sub + cheap amp and you'll have a better setup that will never die. If you don't yeah fuck it get the adam 3s or whatever. The REAL reason to go passive is that the speakers themselves never fucking die so the used market is an extremely good option for them, whereas I would never touch used active speakers (because they're probably HSSSSSSSSSSS and it's why the owner is offloading them). You can get a great setup with used elacs or something plus a sub plus amp easily for like 500 bucks that will destroy standalone active speakers.

It sounds like you need something tiny anyway, upgrade later when you get a semblance of privacy or you'll end up getting big bookshelves that sound amazing cranked up with a sub but be unable to use them properly and end up disappointed.
