How do I convince myself to not make another useless altchan? I really want to, but I have seen so many crash and burn that it makes me question if it is worth my time. Do you think people would use a fighting game themed imageboard? Because other than fighting games and manga, I don’t really have any other hobbies.

What's your go-to-market plan?

That's the number one question you need to have a solid answer for. Until you have 100 *ACTIVE* users (which usually means ~1000 users, as 90% will be lurkers), the site won't self sustain.

If you don't have an answer for how to get users, your altchan will fail.

Building products is easy these days. Getting users is the hard problem.

No. You will get raped by bots and spam and nobody wants to use social media that others don't use. A lot of top websites are objectively dogshit and could be giga improved by a single competent developer and there's dozens of alternatives that do things better but most of the time people care about the network effect.

It takes like 1 day max to make a 4chan clone from scratch

You can allow that, if you like.

>What's your go-to-market plan?
NTA, but does there need to be one? The internet used to be a fun place, before everyone tried to extract money from it.

>Getting users is the hard problem.
Even harder is users worth having.

>raped by bots and spam
Common. There are counters. If more people removed the infrastructure used (like, chase down the residential ranges sporting winxp botnets) to create the offences then the internet would start becomming a safer place.

>nobody wants to use social media that others don't use
Why most places 'fail'.

Idk how to do anything but from just observing how shit operates I would simply not make an alt chan

I'd make a single board, random but work safe, no user uploaded images, no catbox or pomf links. If you want to attach images you choose from pre approved images connected to the website that links to the post, thus reducing server space. There's just no fucking way to avoid illegal content spam otherwise.
Also the single Board only allows a really low amount of threads, like 20 or 30 at the beginning. 300 reply limit. It's meant to be a single fishbowl sized chan that feels compact so users don't feel like they're missing anything.

I never understood why alt Chans with less than 10 users go for 100 thread catalogues with 1000 reply threads and 50 boards spread out. It's like expecting 20 fish to swim the entire ocean looks for each other. Make the environment smaller so there's more engagement. Lain chan has threads going back to the beginning, most are years old.

Anyway, if someone wanted to start a thread with an image it would need to be pre approved before being posted. Or if make it so only images linked from other approved websites were auto approved, so linking an article from a news website or org or Reddit or twitter was faster. I just don't want to deal with illegal content spam or have to monitor the website at all. Just turn it on and let it run itself.

I'd make this website if I knew how to make a chan.

Also I'd have intrusive ads playing. I'd want to monetize the site somehow. I'd even have an embedded twitch stream going so all page visits pad my viewership on twitch, thus paying for the site further.
