I love my 5090 because it is guaranteed to last for 4 more years. What a value.

How restricted is the rest of my build by my RAM?My brain is very small but it was big enough to buy some DDR-5 before the prices started getting dumb because I found a good deal on black friday.Other than it being DDR-5 and thus I want an AM5 board if I'm understanding right. Is there any other restrictions or compatibility in place based on the specific RAM I got that I should keep in mind when picking GPU, CPU, etc?

>>108089439>>108089572>>108089601That's decent ram, though probably too slow for intel CPUs and non-3d AMD ryzen which are more affected by ram timings than Ryzen 3d CPUs. If you pick a 9800x3d/9850x3d or 9950x3d, that ram won't be a bottleneck in any way
>>108089562>No one caresabout your brandwarring faggotry. Here, have a (you), does that make the butthurt any better? How about Linux performance where your amdshilling has proven that - oh dear, oh, sorry, first maybe lets have a look at what the guys said over at phoronix, shall we? A lot of the games didn't even work and when they did a 30% performance loss compared to windows. Complaining about dishonest brand warring and then doing the exact same thing takes a crazy lack of self awareness
>>108089622Thanks. I was a CPU I was aiming for anyways so hopefully it'll work outHypothetically if I have to go with a lower CPU (like a 7XXX X3D or not even an X3D as a placeholder) what would happen? would the PC just not turn on, or just run somewhat less efficiently?
>>108089687i am driven only by facts. raw performance is performance, the same as performance-per-watt is performance, arguably performance per shekel counts too. whatever anon needs to get a /pcbg/ going.>>108089687>gamesassuming all people do is play games is a rather narrow view, shillanon, and until (kek) the steam console (another console-ation win for amd!) changes things linux is a tiny market for /gaymers/ since all the normies use windows or some faggot console.the only things i'm shilling are facts. IDGAF what anons buy as long as they spend their shekels wisely and have some keks. buy all the power you can afford, kids, it's more fun that way.
>>1080897017000x3d has the same indifference to memory performance as 9000x3dIf you go with a non-3d CPU, you'll lose performance in CPU heavy games
If I'm looking to buy an 5080/5090 what are the brands I should only be looking for? FE, Asus, Gigabyte, MSI?
>>108089751>nigger cattle uses windowsyeah thanks. knew that already.
>>108089760Brand doesn't matter it depends on the model within the brandThere are tiers within each brand and the cheapest are hotter and louderConsult poweruptech website for charts on temp and noise
>>108089701If you just have RAM look for a CPU+motherboard deal on NeweggThere's some good shit on there
>>108089777But of course there's different models with different tiers of noise levels and power. It's so defeating when you want to make a PC but there's these obstacles of knowledge beforehand. Thank you.
or techpowerup if your not pic related like >>108089777>poweruptech
>>108089834
>>1080897605080 FE is fine but 5090 FE is too loud and hot. also msi's ventus and shadow are really bad so you should avoid those two models.5090 pushes the connector to its limits so its best you get a thermalgrizzly wireview pro ii to monitor the connector current draw and set an automatic shutdown for when it runs far out of spec. 5080 doesnt use that much power so this isnt really a problem
>>108089759Alright ty. I'm def going for at least an X3D processor then.>>108089786Might just do that or at least start perusing, I like bundles where I can make use of all the stuff in it. I'm trying to get a GPU locked down first so I can see what I have left after to budget the rest of the build out depending on what I get and how much it costs.
>>108089834I'm slightly stoned, that happens thanks for correcting>>108089812Obviously with the RAM situation you're going to be paying more than normal and the quieter and cooler models will be a few hundred dollars more than the base/worst modelI.e. worst models are MSI Ventus, ASUS Prime, etcI'd stick to MSI/Asus/Gigabyte imo but if you want to try the others you might regret the warranty If I had the chance to buy a GPU in November I would've gotten the ASUS Noctua 5080 but I settled on a 5070 Ti in early December -- I didn't want to pay $700 more for a 15% bump in performance but goddamn that Noctua model would've paired perfectly with my PC
>Midrange nvidiots when they find out the 5070 ti they bought is a cut down defective 5080 chip with dead SMS>9070 XT is full navi 48 chip with no defects and made with better TSMC node + more transistors>They could have gotten a better chip buying a cheaper card
>>108089875>>108089926It sounds like I'll be getting a 5080 because the 5090 sounds like it only gives you more issues when I'm not really the type that knows how to build compatible parts together as a whole either way. I would have looked to snipe a 5090 for a little cheaper than they go right now anyways. As long as you can smoothly play 4k games on a 5080 it's good enough for me, I just want something that'll be able to run games on high quality for the next 5 or so years. Honestly if you wouldn't mind or other anons here it'd be nice if someone could build me a PC on pcpartpicker. Budget would be around $5000-5500 but ideally the less the better of course.
