i'm trying to run a mint/ubuntu usb sticks on this old system i have lying around. it's a pretty old pc with 2gb ram, no gpu and a E6310 or whatever, 1.8ghz.
the problem i'm having is that when i choose USB as the boot device, both systems just show a blinking cursor after the "pci devices listing" table and that's it.
at one point i left it for 30 minutes but nothing happened. ubuntu one will show "GRUB" in front of the cursor but that's it.
i know that this is a pretty old machine, but i thought it would at least run the installer and tell me to fuck off.
>>
>>108093129
>no gpu
no dedicated GPU you mean?
it has integrated GPU obv
try gentoo/arch installer, see if it loads the CLI livecd
>>
>>108093129
if that's a dell latitude, i don't see an "e6310", did you mean e6410? either way it's old enough that it might not support uefi
both mint and ubuntu afaik still support bios booting, how did you make the installation media?
>>
>>108093215
yeah i meant no dedicated gpu, there's a vga port on the mobo itself
i'll try another installer, thanks
>>
>>108093237
i meant the cpu, maybe e6320? it doesn't really matter, an old 1.8ghz core 2 duo. there's no uefi on this mobo af far as i see it.
>how did you make the installation media?
used rufus, i'm dling both livegui and minimal gentto installs, we'll see what happens

Looking for advice on good linux distro

Tech illiterate windows refugee, i just game and browse the web. I chose bazzite because it's designed for retards, but it's kind of a piece of shit. Is there a better linux distro, or do they all have issues?

Some of my issues w/ Bazzite include:
>bluetooth connection issues, sound drops out from headphones every 5 seconds
>weird startup behavior, audio and visual artefacts
>screen turns off when watching videos/playing music
>xbox controller won't register when turned on, have to unplug and replug its USB
that's off the top of my head
>>
>>108092911
why there is no "regular" linux thread, only "friendly"?
we shouldn't be friendly to gnu/noobs, they will polute linux userbase like vermin
>>
>>108093385
Yeah those sound like typical Bazzite containercucking issues. If you like the general interface of Bazzite then you should just use any NON-immutable distro with Plasma.

Debian is great unless you have an RTX 50xx card since there's no drivers yet

grug remembers simpler times, when mac vs pc was only choice. now grug has to become computer genius just to enjoy his digital entertainment products.

anyways, thanks for the advice. i'll try debian (gots me an amd GPU)

Many such cases.
Just install fedora kde, ultramarine or mint.
>>

>fedora
Redhat won't give you shekels pajeet. Stop harvesting linux newbies for big company testing environment
>>
>>108093483
The Debian website was made in grug times so it's a bit confusing to find a Debian Live ISO: https://www.debian.org/CD/live/
You want the stable release, and Live KDE if you want a Windows-esque UI.
>>
>>108093497
Can you just stop this forced meme you stupid cunt? You realise Fedora Rawhide exists, right? That's the beta test. The main Fedora releases are completely solid operating systems and unless you are a retard who specifically enables telemetry, you are doing NOTHING to advance the development of downstream distributions like RHEL.
>>
>>108093500
>>108093483
kde is meme desktop, use LXQt or xfce
>>
>>108093497
Then just use mint

okay i dled a minimal-installation-iso, put in on a usb stick using rufus and it still doesn't work, there's a PCI Devices Listing screen etc, and then just a blinking cursor. tried mixing up some bios usb options, changing some rufus settings, and the outcome is always the same.
which is pretty bizarre, honestly, 2 different usb sticks, 4 different isos.
>>
>>108093517

You realise newbies will google "fedora" and in stall the default shit?

ok redhat

Answer this question: do you believe Fedora Rawhide is the default release channel of Fedora?
