I don't spend money on Discord and they've had data breaches in the past, so there is absolutely no reason for me to give them my personal information. I have read parts of the last thread and made a list of some of the alternatives. I am grouping them from easiest to hardest for normies to switch. Easiest: Steam, Mumble, Teamspeak, Revolt/Stoat, Telegram, Whatsapp. Slack, Matrix, Ventrillo, Microsoft Teams, RedditMedium: nostr, QuakeNet/IRC, simplex, XMPPHard: Tincan, LoRaChat AI: Sillytavern Chat I understand that free software is cool, but we need to consider normie accessibility when choosing an alternative. If its harder than pressing a button, they won't use it, and the network will stay small and die. Personally, this is why I am just going to revert to Steam, Mumble, and Teamspeak since I know they were popular before Discord ate their userbase. For the record, I have only used some of these so be careful. They might suck or be malware. Of the ones I have found, Stoat (revolt) looks normie friendly, but I haven't installed it yet. Can someone explain a bit about it? I prefer to have a "gaming exclusive" chat app like Discord, so the idea of migrating to something like Matrix, Microsoft Teams, Reddit, Telegram, or other general purpose communication software doesn't sit right with me.

How is element? Its based on matrix and looks decent enough.Reddit trannies were bitching it didnt have dozens of roles and shit, and i always consider that the worst part of discord "muh secret club" bullshit, and people sucking up to mods to move to "middle management". /g/entoomen should use XMPP.You don't even need an email to register (no phone number kikery, no IDs either). It's actually federated, can be used with I2P/Tor etc., encrypted groups, Gajim and Conversations are piss easy to use and looks okay, it's easy to selfhost if you want to.Cons: Main servers will be overloaded if 100M normalfags start using it. OMEMO setup needs some extra steps (3 clicks) so normies will be filtered.

It's the same thing with shit like Facebook, Microsoft, and Google - would you bother screaming at them? No, you just leave their ecosystem. Better yet you leave, find a new way, then help build and/or promote that new way.>they will regulate your serverNot possible. And I don't even mean super hackerman is untraceable behind 7 proxies, I mean they literally can't regulate someone opening up a computer in their home to be accessible on the internet, because that's literally what the internet (at its core) is.
>>108104969have a full weekend LAN party. tell them before that on day 2, when people are taking a break to watch a movie or something, you're going to set up all their devices onto simplex or XMPP/prodigy/snikket or something like that. it's a good way to also enforce "beer and food while watching the movie with no phones" as you just set up the shit on their mobiles and PCs.they ofc pay for all the food and shit as a thank you. becuase you already have all the server shit all done beforehand, all you need to do is register their accounts and have them verify their email/text or 2FA, which you can do with their unlocked devices, or it can be a thing where you go around the room one by one while they're watching something on the tv saying like "you're up!"t. did this with friends to set up communications many years ago. whenever we need a major update to our infrastructure or whatever we just do it at the next LAN.
>>108105741Should I send TND?
I was thinking about making a FOSS that could just be a docker compose or something that you can just get a shitbox VPS, run docker compose up after downloading a file, and have a basic ass chatroom available akin to discord. That way it's private, invite only. People in one server are likely in other, wholly separate servers, and so you're likely to find other servers via word of mouth and so one. Basically a decentralized chat server
>>108106267that sucks ass, i just want one account for all servers
>>108105508how do you think we got here in the first place. this is always how it goes.
>>108106243>I mean they literally can't regulate someone opening up a computer in their home to be accessible on the internet, because that's literally what the internet (at its core) is.true, they can just make it really difficult for your average normie. in some countries, the government requires your ISP to have government-issued root certificates on your networked devices in order to allow you to access the internet, while also blocking most VPN's through DPI and other packet analysis/traffic flow analysis.highly obfuscated VPNs can get around this still, but your average user isn't going to set up something like vless+reality.
>>108106278I don't know that that's possible without a centralized server. I'm sure this could be solved without a central server with a bit of time and drugs, though.
What should I choose from now on? IRC, Root, or Matrix Element? I got some buddies I wanna try bringing over to one of them that don’t like the age verification shit either

>>108106309>fediverseI don't because I've never heard of it.

may as well effort post for the first time in years. welcome back /g/.Do NOT use Discord, Revolt, Microsoft Teams or anything else based around central servers because literally the same shit will happen to them in the span of a year. Discord does ID checks because of laws around the world forcing them.and the most important thingDO NOT USE MATRIX. PERIOD.Matrix was developed by Amdocs, a contractor of the Mossad, and is fundamentally designed to be easy to surveil by the central matrix.org server. You cannot truly delete messages from Matrix, nor uploads, and any homeserver that has a user in any channel can see the metadata of that channel since it's creation. It is a security nightmare and if you fear Discord you should fear Matrix as instead of one company sniffing data it's 20 of themIf you have Steam, then Steam groups, forums, group chats and direct messages are probably just fine for the average gamer. yes its centralized, but if you just want to boycott it is acceptable, just don't show your power level.if you are SAVVY: try XMPP, it is not any harder to get going compared to Matrix, but is a good one-on-one direct messenger with some crappy group chat functionality. The best XMPP providers are here: https://providers.xmpp.net/ Do not join 404.city they are out of space. Most providers provide better upload rate limits than Discord. Shop around and try a few. This is the tinkerer's option. No one can truly rival Discord. If you are going to boycott you are going to have to accept a significant drop in features, otherwise you are just going to be in the same situation next year, because the features you want are impossible to make without being vulnerable like this.Share personal information with NO ONE. Be skeptical of ALL PLATFORMS. NO SERVER IS SECURE AND ALL OF THEM CAN STEAL YOUR DATA. Don't get lost in the paranoia and be smart.good luck anons. IRC is cool too i guess but it's not really what anyone here is wanting.
>>108105254So where is my data saved, on their servers or is it self-hosted?
Has anyone tried Zulip? Genuinely curious because I just heard about it and I've never heard it mentioned. It's open source and you can host it yourself but they have free and paid hosting you can join.
>>108106487>So where is my data saved, on their servers or is it self-hosted?No, in the cloud. like the ones you see in the air.
>>108106384appreciate it. even though I'm super into the weeds (gentoo, btw), I realize people have other priorities and shit. they help me with things outside of my wheelhouse (although I typically bug them for details to learn), and I help them with stuff that they just want something to work. they appreciate having shit just be fast, clean, secure, and just work, but I realize they don't have the time or care to set everything up, and it's fast for me to just do it for them when we hang out.
>>108106487That seems to be in regards to making an app for the platform, like one that's usable in Root, not talking about Root itself.
>>108105335>joining, posting CSAM, and then leavingSo it's a non-issue if only the server admin can manage invite links and only trusted people are invited?
>>108106477>muh joosNot an argument. I will be creating a gaming account on Matrix.
>>108105134The entire point of these fucking chat services are literally for drama and shit talking. No one wants to discuss shit with the 5 friends they have constantly. you fucking retard. Yahoo chatrooms and every other chatroom like it is specifically so we can talk to normalfags or at least people whom are not our friends. You stupid zoomer retards fail to realize this.
>>108106520>state potential privacy concern>cool it with the antisemitic remarkslol
>>108106083Pakiposting just outs you as being a paki. You fat paki.
>>108106535>The entire point of these fucking chat services are literally for drama and shit talking.Discord is for gaming, asshole. There are times when it's useful to talk to people in game. >>108106544Every Western tech company is "a contractor of the Mossad." It means nothing. It's obvious that Matrix/Element's time has come.
>>108106520>Not an argumentRead the words right after Mossad, they are the rest of the argument, you know, because irrespective of who made it, it is still insecure because every group chat and direct message is a blockchain that is shared between all servers involved, and that removing items from this blockchain is not actually possible because otherwise it invalidates the cryptographic integrity of the metadata. You literally cannot delete messages, the matrix.org server will always see what they were so long as someone in your chat uses matrix.org as their home server (and someone WILL be using it)
>>108106553Explain why I should give a fuck about any of that. Someone still has to match my real name to those messages. This isn't about anonymity or privacy. This is about not having a malicious merchant sell or leak my data to hostile third parties and collaborate with increasingly authoritarian pigs.
>>108106552>Discord is for gaming, asshole. There are times when it's useful to talk to people in game. incorrect the majority of discord is for shit talking and drama. That is literally just a regular chatroom and if by off occasion people play games together doesn't make it specifically for gaming but I get what you mean. They want to be seen like this but every popular chat program chat site whatever never has a specific "category" it is just to have a chat from people around the world on a specific topic and to argue. This is how 4chan even is this is just how it is. If they try to change into a teen chat services or whatever its going to end in shit because the entire fucking purpose is to shit talk with people. No one is going to go into these discord servers just to play a game if they wanted to do that they'd just stick with steam. Again its for the drama and shit posting. Also no one gives a fuck about being anonymous outside of people within that server if the owner knows no one cares.
>>108106571wow I'm sure mossad and everyone else wants to really know what you are shit posting because they fucking don't care outside of collecting AD information and you can't escape any of that because you are already being sold like everyone else. Chatrooms are not even privacy ffocused and you shouldnt even be thinking you have privacy in the first place you fuckin retard.
>>108106571The way Matrix synchronizes the history of chat rooms means anyone can hook up to any public, unencrypted room and read every message ever sent to it since the beginning of time, all without having to actually be present in the room for more than an hour, because the Matrix homeservers by design are required to send the entire history in order to verify the history has not been tampered with.So in effect, instead of one malicious merchant reading everything you say and upload, it's literally anyone who has the money to setup a Matrix home server. Also the Matrix.org homeserver is operated out of the UK, so they may very well be forced to ask for ID at some point under the OSA.
>>108106612Who gives a fuck? How is that any different from someone sitting in the chatroom and just copy pasting it all and giving it away? You fucking moron chatrooms are never going to be privacy focused. GET OVER IT. you retarded fuck!
>>108106581>incorrect the majority of discord is for shit talking and drama.I don't think so. 90% of the servers I'm in are for gaming, and 10% is for gaming tech. You don't even use Discord so why do you think you know anything? /g/ is for technology. Discord is for gaming. This isn't some kind of philosophical debate. Fuck off!>>108106600>>108106612https://discord.com/press-releases/update-on-security-incident-involving-third-party-customer-serviceUpdated: October 9, 2025TL;DR:Discord recently discovered an incident where an unauthorized party compromised one of our third-party vendors. This was not a breach of Discord, but rather a breach of a third party service provider, 5CA, that we used to support our customer service efforts. This incident impacted a limited number of users who had communicated with our Customer Support or Trust & Safety teams. Of the accounts impacted globally, we have identified approximately 70,000 users that may have had government-ID photos exposed, which our vendor used to review age-related appeals. No messages or activities were accessed beyond what users may have discussed with Customer Support or Trust & Safety agents. We immediately revoked the customer support provider’s access to our ticketing system and continue to investigate this matter. We’re working closely with law enforcement to investigate this matter. We are in the process of emailing the users impacted.><Nothing you're mentioning is equivalent to having your government issued ID stolen or leaked. You're full of shit. No one cares if they have logs of chatrooms about finding diamonds in fucking Minecraft. Having to give someone my government ID so I can play Minecraft is the problem because it means that this kind of incident is possible.

>>108105403To combat CP, you have to know someone is sending CP. If you know that information, you don't have privacy. This is a trade off, and it is clearly superior to accept that some people will trade CP than to accept a lack of privacy. Because once you open that rabbit hole, you open up a bunch of other rabbit holes that should never be opened.

Is anyone here good with C++ and experienced with low-level HTTP? >>108107834>You gave them your phone number!!!I think id remember if i did that. I've had this account for years and never gave it. You're just screaming and for no actual reason. You're entire gripe is just someone using a different messaging service. It's a means to an end and that's all it is.
>>108106062XMPP is the ticket.Don’t use Matrix. It’s bloated electron app slop that uses >1GB to run and they make self hosting a pain in the ass on purpose because they want you to use matrix.org aka the tel aviv data farming servers.Even if you do self host your metadata is still routed to matrix.org regardless.
>>108107855The entire business world uses Office 365, Gsuite, Slack etc....but I guess that isnt professional enough for you. Let me ask you this, have you read the terms of service for using Discord to make sure that Discord that you are not violating the terms of service by using it for buisness purposes? Have you inadvertently given DIscord ownership of your all your companies intellectual property? etc
>>108107859sure, use thishttps://github.com/bluenviron/mediamtxHas the advantage that you can give anyone a link to your stream independent of the messenger you use.You can even make a discord bot to give it to the goycattle as well. There is no reason why WebRTC streams should be limited to a fucking chat message channel. You are just restricting yourself for no reason. It is literally superior technology.
I'm more interested in how I can wipe all my messages from servers without just going and manually doing it one by one."Deleting" your account only "anonymizes it" but doesn't do anything about the actual content, links, or images sent.>>108107866> when you couldn't use it anymore without phone verification.it was never forced, only for new account signups briefly
>>108107861I don't know why you're being such a smug prick about it, it will happen on EVERYTHING. This is just another victim. Your super alternative software will get it too, mark my words. Unless you're sending carrier pigeons, wave goodbye to any form of anonymous messaging within the decade.
>>108107903there's a user script I used with grease monkey that foes this. access the server via browser and let it rip. takes a while but at least it's automated.
>>108107900>claim software has feature>look inside>just use this completely different softwarefuck off retard
>>108107912"undiscord" was it? I remember hearing people claiming they tripped some bot detection and got banned instead before it could finish.
>>108107899I can't emphasise enough how little I care what the "professional" world uses. I do my job well and get paid well, that's all that matters to me. Every else is bells and whistles.
>>108107903>was never forced, only for new accountThen you were already doxxed with their app installed, that scans whatever else is running on your PC, anyway. If you use it only in your browser, and only when you actually do something on it and maybe even delete cookies every now and then or logout refularly, your account got locked, you can't see anything anymore and it tells you to phone verify..So you cant even message anyone anymore to tell them that the account is dead.
>>108107917currently still in bed so I can't check but the name rings a bell. Yeah apparently it can trip the bot detection but I used it to clear 5 years worth of messages with no issue.
>>108107744My friend, why don't you create another discord account that you use only for work. Then, just have your job move your stuff over to this accout. That way you can just delete the old account and stop using discord in your personal life but you still have your work discord and who cares if your identity is linked to your work discord
>>108107907>you have to compy! It will happen to EVERYTHING anyway!>you cant just tell people "i told you so" >you are supposed to be outraged and plead to discord, while you follow their ordershow are (((they))) going to force me to implement age verification in my self hosted matrix homeserver?
>>108104969You don't, give up>>108104849Trying to scan an AI generated man face is easier than having a working alternative to discord. It first has to actually die
>>108107915>nooo, you cant just use something better and more flexible that works independent of messengerthen stay with your inferior convoluted trash for normies. And don't forget to pay for Nitro to use emojis.
>>108105339Teamspeak is why Discord became popular. It's fucking trash and unless you want public server IP with brasilian and russian kids dumping malware in chat all the day you need to pay to host your server
>>108107939>has the audacity to call his patchwork solution of multiple servers and sharing links to screen share less convoluted than clicking share screen on discordfuck off retard
>>108107946isnt discord the Nr.1 malware distributing platform right now?
>>108107947It is discord that is the patchwork, anon.Discord is inferior in all ways and they implemented a complete garbage trash solution for WebRTC because they couldnt do it any better.
>>108107953You don't pay for hosting
>>108105030Matrix is a discord psyop, it's still so shit after years of people trying shill it.
>>108107907>it will happen on EVERYTHINGIt actually won't. Anything that lets you buy a business license and manage your own users won't require face ID. Anything that caters to the US government and doesn't care about foreign censorship will not comply. Anything open source will not comply because they can't.
>installs discord app that scans your PC every second and phones the metrics to discord>pay for discord nitro, give them your payment informations>verify by phone>link a dozen social media accounts to discord...>WTF, THEY WANT MY ID, THAT IS WHERE I DRAW THE LINEEverybody who still uses discord will comply. Don't lie to us. Don't claim that you are an independent thinker, while you are still on that platform in current year + 11.You are cattle and need to be treated as such.It is worthless to tell you better solutions and alternatives, because you will just cope and make up fantasy arguments on why the platform, that makes you pay for custom emojis, is actually better and impossible to leave.Get fucked.
>>108107958That's correct, you can freely distribute your malware on discord. Those idiotic discord kids install info stealers every other day.
>>10810484999% of discfags will just scan their id to keep using it>I understand that free software is cool, but we sneed to consider....no, ""we"" don't
Can i pay teamspeak, mumble or matrix 10 USD per month to boost a sever, which gives me a special role on that server, that shows me higher up in the user list and gives my name a cool color? No?Thought so!That's why we can't leave Discord!Dont suggest those inferior solutions to me, where i cant even pay money for emojis!Anyway, so discord is implementing id verification now, we have to fight against it by complaining while complying!!!!
>>108106896You just described the history of discord except stealing from Slack instead of Guilded.
>>108106477>Don't get lost in the paranoiatoo late for me
>>108104849I have a server of about 100 users of which maybe 20 are active. Is using element's server enough or should I send host? What kind of hardware would that need?
>>108106326supremely fucking expensive, you are forced to pay 8 dollars per user every month in order to use group chat and have a server with at most 20 people. although it seems to be the only similar, reliable, feature complete and eazy to use discord alternative as of now.
>>108108344Just rent rackspace like a normie.
>>108108517Sorry that's what I meant. Do the super cheap ≤$5 servers work?
>>108108574Do you not have Google retard? There are probably companies that specialize in Matrix hosting.
>>108105399>>108105746>>108105802>have to compile it yourself>go to download the app on their website and see pic related>client is TypeScript>doesn't support video calls on Windows>no mention of streaming being supported anywhereFOSStard software can kinda get away with this stuff for programs that aren't purely social, but for this kind of thing this kills it dead. The whole point is to have a community on it, which means you need to get people to switch over to it. Just by having to compile it yourself that's already out of the question for 99% of people. If it were superior to Discord at least that'd offset it, but it's just a worse Discord client with a bunch of extra steps.
>>108106243this
>>108106520Kill yourself and burn in hell.
The thing is:>Signal / Session / TelegramWith Telegram being the most, maybe the only, suited for big communities unfortunately aren't a replacement for Discord because of the room management system kinda lacking.>MatrixIs a fucking clunky shit with shit clients, shit protocol, hard to self-host and biggest istance is just mossad. So, even if Discord isnt really anything special, there isnt something that fits its role as>free>functioning UI>actually meant for big communities. And this is pretty much it as of now.
>>108108818>its better than discord, but it isnt perfect, so i stay with discord
>>108109011your words
>>108104849The niggers who use Discord should be treated like teenagers
>>108108961>mutt janny has a melty over the sane parts of the world fucking 15 year olds while he has to be paranoid about a girl being 17Also is it just me or have the jannies gone full reddit tier as soon as the new captcha difficulty was introduced? I've racked up like 12 days worth of bans in the last 24 hours. I bet >>108108961 came with a ban too.
>>108104849I apologise on behalf of all Australians. This country is a fag filled nanny state, and this is the fault of cunts in Canberra
>>108107756I’ve used a throwaway Discord account for work. It’s a good way to get around my own companies policies and speak to people in other companies who use the same custom product I do in an informal manner. I get this breaks some of the autistic screeching going on in this thread but wanted to chime in.
>>108107888I’d just leave em be. They’re too far gone.I haven’t had to phone verify either. You and I probably won’t get age verified.
Hopefully none of the gacha game servers I go to will get hit by this. If they don't say anything in a week or so I'll ask them if they have a backup on one of the alternatives.
