Why don't we have big robots yet? Instead our elites are funneling billions into chat bots that larp as humans. Billions of dollars for most useless gimmick ever

>>108110198>>108110273in the last 20 or so years an anime-style mech (of the "real robot" variety) has just about become physically feasible - we can make actuators strong enough, precise enough and light enough to move a ~20ft vaguely humanoid robot with a modicum of dexterity - but it would cost a fuckload of money and time to make for no conceivable use case that isn't better served by some other form factorif you want a mech, OP, give me $50M and I'll make one for you. it will be able to walk around, maybe hop a bit and do some tricks, for a couple of minutes before the battery runs outt. robotics researcher
If they did, said robots sure as hell wouldn't be piloted by you or in your favor.
>>108110198Have you seen modern warships? Sure, they have a bunch of humans on board. But those CIWS can go full autopilot and kill things on their own, if they are set to do so.
Let's approach the subject correctly.
You need a reason. The original Gundam and Macross actually justified the building of giant robots. IRL the giant robot would just be swarmed out by existing military vehicles: Ones that are easier and cheaper to build, I might add.
real life mechs are slow and dont move fast like in the anime. they are basically giant turtles and if you seen a turtle in the wild they are easy pvp matchups for predators. birds divebomb the head from above, komodo dragons bite through the underbelly on the land, crocs deathroll them in the water. once you lost on three battlefields its time to packup.
>>108110198https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f4LYGil7kOoIt's not that hardto build a robot. The problem is the power source.
>>108110198>Why don't we have big robots yet?As >>108110273 said we do but they're fixed station units. But the reasons are some why we don't have giant mobile robots > Energy Storage Batteries aren't dense enough to last the time needed to make them useful . You'll an ICE engine to keep them going. The flip side is you'll need more efficient electronics to make those batteries go farther. We also have flying robots aka drones which while lame and gay do their job efficiently. Maybe. Eventually we'll get better power sources that will give us our gundams
