Why haven't you taken the NASpill yet?
I have no use for a NAS. 30+ years of internet & computer use and I can fit all my stuff on a 34gb drive.
>>108111126I have 2 x 12TB Seagate external HDDs plugged in my PC with USBs. What benefit would NAS have over that? The only thing I don't like is that they have their own power cords and take two scokets in my power splitter.

>>108112698The purpose of a NAS is to use data on multiple devices. So.. the most obvious use case is watching movies or playing music from any device in the house without moving or duplicating files. The only use case desu.

>>108113797It's specifically for having a constantly running server dedicated to sharing data over your local network to multiple devices. So no, you don't, and neither do I. I just ssh randomly when I need to since usb sticks are slow as shit. I guess it could also be useful for hosting and compiling software projects for a specific architecture / OS over multiple devices, but again I have no use for that either.
I ran one 15 years ago but these days if there’s actually something I want to watch I just stream it, very little is worth committing to ones and zeros these days.
>>108111126I see no reason to hoard data anymore. I have my favorite shows and movies on physical media in case I ever feel the urge to watch it again and it's the same with music. I still use and buy actual CD's and my if I feel like playing a game I will pirate it, play it and then delete it.
