I have come to the conclusion that modern society sucks and it was better 2015 and earlier. Everything today just feels unpleasant, soulless and hostile. How can I start downscaling my life so I can larp that I am back more than a decade ago? What technology should I replace? What y2k sites can I still go to and use? What brands still retain their old aesthetic?I'm unironically envious of those autists who exclusively use y2k tech at this point.

>>108127862>2015Try 2000s, maybe earlier. The issue is not in technology itself but in humans. In early 00s you were spending few hours a day using computer at best, today everyone is connected to the web 24/7 and has a small, shitty computer in their pockets. The typical Internet user is generating and consuming too much of that noise.Want a change? Go outside, breathe some air, read a book, find a hobby that don't rely on wanking your cock to some idealized and fake "y2k" bullshit. You niggers want to go back to "the old, good days" but instead you just replace your smarphones with pile of useless, old junk that you want to use to replace functionality of a smartphone.

>>108127862- Internet's fucked. Get off the internet. Log off forever. - Get a laptop from before 2019. Only use it for offline activities. Do not connect it to the internet.- Get an old console and play vidya that way. All of the Xboxes before One were great, all of the PlayStations before 5 are also good. You can also get a Nintendo Switch and use that. - Get an MP3 player. Load it with music ripped from CDs. MAYBE download some stuff from slsk if you have to, but again, try to stay offline. - If you want to make music, get a mixer and a multi-channel recorder. I recommend Zoom L6.- If you want to make electronic music, invest in hardware synthesizers and samplers. Fortunately we are living in a golden age of music hardware so a good synthesizer would be cheaper and take up less space than ever before. Modern stuff is great actually. A rare occurrence. - E-readers OK but make sure you get one that allows sideloading ebooks. Do not use an online marketplace under any circumstances. - Take up film photography. Get 3 cameras; a total piece of shit that adds charm, a daily carry and a really nice expensive one to use for special occasions. - Destroy your iPhone or Android phone and get yourself one of them throwaway Tracfones. The ones where you buy minutes on cards that you have to scratch off with a quarter like a lottery ticket. Your phone should just be a phone. Nothing more.- Delete all of your social media profiles. Meet people in person. Talk to strangers irl. If you want sex, go to a bar. Or go cruising if you're a fag. - Keep a journal in an iron safe. Write in it daily, even when you don't want to. - Go vegan. Just trust me on this. Meat isn't what it used to be. There's a reason they're pushing it so hard. Stop eating it. Go to the library, research as much as you can on vegan nutrition and stick to it.- Don't go to gyms. Work out at home. - Cut out any friends that try to pull you back in. - Delete everything. Everything. Good luck anon.

I had boomer parents who worked as professionals and who drove around listening to Rush Limbaugh so I started seeing the political shit earlier than necessary. >>108129848>mobile phones use completely different communication protocols for calls than landline phones do1.) Not really. Cellphones essentially work by talking to a cell tower which is connected to a landline. The only practical difference is how the device connects to the infrastructure. 2.) Doesn't matter. Functionally it's the same thing accomplished through different technologies. This nitpick is like arguing that any telephone that uses a phone number that doesn't contain letters is not technically a telephone which would mean telephones haven't existed since like the 70s. It's a needless arbitrary stipulation that doesn't actually mean anything.

>>108130735Who cares about what was "designed" to do what? At this point not much engineering work goes into the phone side of things because it's very much a solved problem. They're focused on giving you a better camera, fancier screen to endlessly scroll social media on, all that shit. The microphone and the ear facing speaker are there because they need to be and for little else. They are probably some of the cheapest components that go into a phone. Most people don't care about them. I do. But I'm an aging millennial who dabbled in phone phreaking and has memories of using landline phones. The only improvement I've seen in calling since I got my first cell phone is the availability of voice over wifi calling which has helped quite a bit because I live in the middle of nowhere and have a shit cell signal. When smartphones first came out I really wanted Skype for Android and they dragged their feet on it, so good free voip services were also something that kinda came later. Now every messaging app has that and Skype is dead, the retards should have struck while the iron was hot.

As a teenager I texted so much the numbers and letters on my Nextel phone's rubber buttons got rubbed off. But I had T9 memorized and I could type text messages on that thing without looking. I still have that skill but it's now completely obsolete. That was the primary use of my phone. That's what teenagers did back then. Sure I made phone calls on the free nights and weekends too. I'd talk to my girlfriend on the phone all night or sit around dialing random numbers until I found cool stuff. Like a disconnected hospital PBX where I could press 90 and get the hospital operator service. Or Verizon airphones, usually those would just ring but I actually talked to someone on a flight once. Also random 800 numbers that went to KDDI error messages in Japan. It's a shame those days are never coming back. Just like /b/ will never be good again. I will never hear analog cross talk on a phone line again. I will never walk into a store and buy a sealed copy of a gameboy game for $30 again. I will never experience broadband internet for the first time again. I'll never lose my virginity again. I'm just old and unimpressed with everything.

>>108127923The 80s were peak. Best movies, games, music, culture, everything. Women with big hair and big asses was ultra giga peak.
>>108131202what if it was real device like a TV remove. I think we had those too. you could use that with skype. was that a phone?
>>108131212you're still wrong tho XD
>>108131217in fact such a remote would be more of a phone than a 2026 smartphone because it is comfortable to hold and has real not virtual dial pad sans cell tower gizmos
>>108131217>what if it was real device like a TV removeYou're describing a cellphone. A handheld electronic device primarily designed for making and receiving telephone calls is a cellphone. >>108131235>in fact such a remote would be more of a phone than a 2026 smartphone because it is comfortable to hold1.) It wouldn't necessarily be more physically comfortable to hold merely because it exists theoretically. Many television remotes are uncomfortable to hold and use. 2.) Whether or not it is comfortable is irrelevant to whether or not it's a phone. >>108131227I don't take the word of self-professed 'retards' seriously.
>>108131276>1.) It wouldn't necessarily be more physically comfortable to hold merely because it exists theoretically. Many television remotes are uncomfortable to hold and use.come on, admit it. you're a chat bot.
>>108131321I'm literally just responding to the things you say. The fact that it sounds stupid is on you. Don't say stupid things.
>>108127923It's no surprise that google and related companies hid message boards so the platforms they control can link your ID card to your account
>2015 and earlierMildly interesting seeing this date being pushed forward as the years go by. It's as if people in their 20's just tend to realize that growing up is a huge fucking bummer.
>>108131330but you say stupid stuff such as a tv remote is less comfortable to handle than a tablet (a 1cm flat surface with 99% reactive surface) regardless if comfort makes it a phone is not the topic atm
If only we were back in the good old trad days of 2020...
calling it a phone or a smartphone is the same as calling llm ai
>>108131362>but you say stupid stuff such as a tv remote is less comfortable to handle than a tabletSome remotes are maddeningly uncomfortable to use. They're not all the same. Look at the 2nd generation Apple TV remote.
>>108131379>appleisn't that the source of all this
>>108131374Except not really because a smartphone is very literally a cellular telephone with extra features.
>>108131383if it's a phone why is it mainly used for porn (in various forms)?
>>108131382Yes, although some people say that LG beat them to the punch with the LG Prada which was released 9 months earlier.
>>108131391Because of the "extra features" aspect of what I said.
>>108131401interesting.. I would have considered a battery that lasts 1 year on 1 charge an extra feature but instead we have instagram (not phone related btw)
almost as if ''''phones''' are used as (personal) computer huh strange
>>108131427Long battery life is a feature. The ability to install programs is also a feature. Neither of them are disqualifying for the telephone classification. >>108131432Correct. They're also used as telephones. Because that's primarily what they are. They're telephones with extra features.
>>108127862Y2k fucking sucked. I was there and fully conscious. Computers were horribly unstable, finding media was a pain in the ass, and good information was hard to come by even with the Internet and a library card. Trust me man, it's not worth going back despite what we deal with now. If you don't like how things are, don't use a computer, and buy a dumb phone. Then just live your life, but don't ever try to go back to the bullshit of the 90s and 00s.
>>108129614You know things are fucked now when I'm looking at that image with amused but sad nostalgic disgust instead of just plain amused disgust.
>>108129614Assuming you’re from the US or broader anglosphere, your age group formed its worldview during the least turbulent decade of the past 100 years, something no other living generation has experienced, and honestly that unusually calm period influences your perception and makes you an unreliable judge of reality
>topic ignored>80+ posts arguing what a phone is to emotionally satisfy some need to be rightI hate neurotypicals so much
>>108131561you think ignoring the conversational topic and inappropriately fixating about minute details that don't really matter in the grand scheme of things is a NEUROTYPICAL behavior???
>>108131674YesMedical (((experts))) lump in retard behavior in the autism spectrum to stigmatize it
>>108127862>How can I start downscaling my life so I can larp that I am back more than a decade ago?idk just buy old game consoles, mp3 players/cd player, watch old movies/tv everything was better
shartphones being awful devices fits in ops description of things suckingcell phones 20 years ago as limited as they were were awesome and did not suck very much on topic
>>108131728>erm actually the autistics are the normies and the normies are the weirdos
>>108131891>believing the experts>not questioning why literal drooling retards are lumped in the autism spectrumngmi goycattle
>>108131931No thank you. I'm not taking medical theory from the board commissioned by the pedo-jew final boss for the express purpose of zogzapping autistic brains.

>>108132179whatever you say, pedojew supersoldier
>>108129360What’s the idea behind all this? Like never ever using online marketplaces? Being tracked?
>>108132236- Strengthening privacy to the furthest possible extent. (I know that the panopticon is functional unavoidable at this point but it's better than nothing.)- Enriching quality of life (dedicated tools are better than multitaskers however convenient they might be)- Harnessing control over asset ownership.

>>108127862>2015Picrel is early 2000s stuff
>>1081278622015 sucked too. Humanity peaked at the start of 2000 and it's been going monotonically downhill since then.
>>108133343I never realized this but the 21st century has been absolute shit so far.
>>108133297Wtf are you even babbling about. You sound like nerd and talk like a faggot kys.
>>108133343> Humanity peaked at the start of 2000I had to quit literally everything "human" save for the internet already back in the 90's due to cultural marxist-driven shitskin faggot infestation.Fail whitewashing, kys.
>1999 was the pinnacle of human civilizationThe Matrix was right. After 9/11 everything went to hell in a way that the schizo in me says that it was the capstone to a satanic ritual or more specifically the "mass human sacrifice' parr.
I just want a solar flare to destroy everything. There’s no solution of any kind
>>108130276There is no earpieace. There is camera where an earpiece (on a phone) would be.
>>108130676Well I do think the computer is way more pervasive for the average person right now than back then. Most normal families wouldn’t allow your schedule, and there were definitely way more moments without a computer at your side than now. I’m typing this message on my phone while eating lunch, for instance. I do think people forget how much more the TV played a role in daily screen time. But on the other hand many people now watch TV and use their phone at the same time…
>>108135002Above the camera, there's an earpiece. It's small and hard to see but it is there.
>>108134182Sorry, I don't argue with pedophiles. :/
>>108135738maybe on your tablet but on mine it's slid with nothing. the speaker on the side asks as a fake (virtual if you will) earpiece.
>>108136135You can literally see it here. https://youtube.com/watch?v=QxKugQMOZTg
>>108136224where?
>>108136259In the video I just linked? Do you not know what the driver module looks like?
>>108136285we only see the back of the device. are you suggesting the earpiece is mounted on the back side of this tablet?
>>108136307You can see the majority of the components that would be visible from the front of the device if it weren't for the display, and the earpiece is there.
>>108136334maybe you just want it to be there and imagine it being there?
>>108136346Nope, I'm looking directly at it. You might just be technologically illiterate.
>>108127923>go outside>everyone is walking around with their phones out, talking about what some subhuman influencer said and whatever viral consumerist shit like labubu is popular nowThere is no escape. The only thing that you can sort of enjoy the same as always is visiting nature alone, but most people can only handle being alone for so long. And even then, it is still not the same because you yourself don't think or look at the world the same way that a person would 30 years ago. It's like how kids are being born with microplastics already embedded into their brains. Everything has been corrupted. You can only pretend to escape.
>>108135744Whatever jewbot keep saying your nonsensical script hoping someone cares

This picture must be viral or some shit. Everyone's trying to download TLC's Fanmail off me on soulseek today.
>>108137063are you sure?
>>108137227Very. And my certainty only increases the more you post.
You know what this thread needs? More pictures of pajeets handling low end xiaomeme phone boards.
>>108137297can you name the thing in the middle?
>>108137300
>>108127862The 90s were the peak of civilization, and even the 80s were pretty good.
>>108137336Enlighten me. What is it you think you're looking at?
>>108137348I experienced the 90s as a child. While I wish I could have been an adult then being an adult in the 70s seems like the real win. All that good music. Condom free sex without AIDS. Good drugs. Seems like it would be way more fun than any other time as long as I didn't have to go to Vietnam or some stupid shit like that.
sony was kino in the 90s

>>108127862It’s not about technology, it’s about HOW you use it.Drop YouTube, X, Discord, IG, Facebook, TikTok, Spotify, Netflix. Any app with a “feed”. Anything with infinite scrolling. Gone.YouTube is a special case - only watch what friends or anons actually recommend. Never go browsing for content yourself. Passive consumption = fine. Active dopamine hunting = you’re cooked.Use forums. Forums keep you informed and connected without the constant stream of brain-rotting noise. Want to read a book? Get a physical copy. Library or buy it. Simple.Want to listen to music? Build your own offline library. Want to watch a movie? Find it on emule/p2p. You don’t have to ditch your smartphone. It has genuinely useful apps. Don’t play any game with ads, hourly login rewards, battle passes or FOMO mechanics. You know what a healthy game looks like vs one designed to keep you hooked. Use your brain.Follow this and you’ll feel like you’re living in the early 2000s internet. Comfy, focused, actually enjoyable, even on modern hardware. The technology didn’t ruin you. The business model did.
>>108138031>Use forums. Forums keep you informed and connected without the constant stream of brain-rotting noise.Sadly have become slop because most of the posters are retarded neurotypicalsI used to go to forums and have my mind blown by the expertise. Now they're mostly clueless even when I ask an obvious question. It's like they don't have "understanding" and only copypaste actions.I unironically get better at a topic googling and researching one afternoon than asking in forums nowadays
